In this episode of Solo Playthroughs, Greg is excited to introduce Street Masters to the channel! Every game of Street Masters matches up a hero against a boss in a dynamic setting filled with loot, objectives, and unique rulesets. Today we have Brandon v. Dmitri and The Brotherhood in a warehouse on a remote island where Brandon is being held captive. Our mission: Defeat Dmitrii before he defeats us! Of course, Dmitri is armed with a slew of minions and explosives...and we are armed with martial arts tactics and various punch, kick, and grapple attacks. Seems fair, right? To win, Brandon is going to need to fight through his enemies with a series of devastating combos. But will it be enough? Turn on your favorite 80s' action movie soundtrack and let's find out!

Lots of conflicting feelings about this one. It's a good game. But is it a great game for me? I'm genuinely still not sure...but I'm excited to get it on the channel! Look out for my 2022 Top Solo Games list that I'm publishing tomorrow! Happy Gaming! Greg

Thanks for the video! I played the base game digital app for a while and jumped in on the BLG Street Masters: Tide of the Dragon and reprint Indiegogo campaign for almost all of the available content. Now that it has been manufactured and stuck in China since last September, I have lost interest in the game. I'll try the Tide of the Dragon, but will most likely sell all of it if physical gameplay falls flat.

Thanks for the comment, emspring! Yeah - I've heard this game has been a bit of a nightmare to actually get for some people. I picked up a copy of just the base game thinking I might try to hunt down the rest but I'm content with just the base game at this point. For me, it's a good game...in a sea of good games. But I can definitely understand why some people absolutely love it.

I thought the alt loss condition was very cool. It makes you pay attention to the minions... in theory. Based on this playthrough, the problem is that you can just pummel the boss and easily beat the timer. I wonder how well it would work to just scale up Dimitri's health to 30 or 40. Then you're really worried about the alt loss condition and it seems like a lot deeper tactically. But as you said, there's just so many other games, so why bother. 😊

Exactly. This could be a great game. But, IMO, it just falls short and I'm not really in the habit of trying to "fix" games that don't fully work for me.

Brandon is definitely one of the more powerful fighters and Dmitri is the easiest boss. Different combos will be much tougher than this one. Also, play one story or the other, not both at the same time. The fighters' stories are meant to be played as a separate story, I believe. It's been a while since I have had this one on the table.

Thanks for the thoughts, Papi Plays! Yeah - I played against a few of the bosses and Dmitri is indeed one of the weakest. I'm looking forward to getting back to the other fighters for sure. As for the stories, as weird as it is, the fighter stories are meant to be played alongside the regular stories, adding a fight or two to the main storyline depending on results and player choices. It was a strange design choice to say the least IMO.

@@SoloPlaythroughs The problem with the stories, in my opinion, is the fact that some character stories require you to not do something, like someone not getting killed, so the easiest way to do that is to die imediatelly. And the designers said that's the way it works. (facepalm)

Some rules quibbles: 1. You can do an attack action without having anyone to attack if you want to do other parts of that action: So you could have used Brandon's attack in that first turn to activate a Combo effect of a card in your hand if you needed to. Other comments: 1. Yes, Brandon is borderline OP. Why borderline? Because there are some Redemption fighters (aka: Bosses as fighters) that are aeven more OP. Healing 21 health per turn OP. 2. Yes the game is VEEEEERY easy. There is only 1 Boss so far that we haven't managed to beat: the Oni, the other's we have a 95-100% win rate against (and true solo was supposed to be more difficult). The Golden Dragons are also OK difficulty wise. As for others I've added all upgrade cards into their decks and, while they are better, some are still to easy (haven't tried upgraded Golden Dragons yet) 3. As I mentioned on Facebook, several base game stages are really not good (in my opinion): the ones where the enemies pick up and drop stuff. They're just boring and 1 dimensional. On the other hand, Compromised (the stage with the hostages) is REALLY awesome! It has some quirks to it, but it's really interesting. Cashed out is also good. 4. As for stories, they are not done properly. There are some stories where you have to prevent something from happening, (like someone not dying) you can just die on purpose and fulfill the objective. The designers confirmed that. Strategy advice: use Viper stance to draw a lot of cards. And when you think you've had enough, then place it in your play area. 😉 PS. And you REEEAAALLLY need that second camera shot for your hand and play area: I know the game by heart and had a difficulty following what you played, drew etc. 🙃

Hey, Daniel! I forgot who you were on KZbin so it's nice to make the connection again. Thanks for the rules clarification - I saw that on the Facebook group about actions not "fizzling" and that makes total sense. And good to know about the difficulty level; I played against the Golden Dragons in Brandon's side scenario and that was probably my favorite scenario. Also appreciate the strategy advice. As for the second camera, I appreciate the continued feedback. My only real limitation right now is not having the computer-editing software combo to make a second camera possible. So, unfortunately, until I make that financial investment, I'm gonna have to stick with incremental improvements with what I have. I might experiment with a "hand cam" instead of a "face cam" during my live playthroughs though!

@@SoloPlaythroughsI'm sorry If I'm being too pushy, but that camera angle is the only thing I need to fully enjoy your playthroughs :) Have you tried the Compromised Stage?

Definitely not too pushy - I welcome the tone of your repeated feedback TBH. I think I tried most of the stages at least once at this point but I can't remember which is which. I thought the casino one was the most interesting. :)

The combo system is intriguing, but the AI is really bad. Anastasia kept walking three steps toward you and then three steps toward the prisoner. Or maybe it's a very good AI mimicking somebody really indecisive

Yeah - the AI is pretty bad, made worse by a rulebook that leans into the fact that it has ambiguities.
