Copper everywhere! Since the day was shaping up as low pickings I reverted to scrapping crt tv's for the copper to boost my scrap value for the day.

If you’re into Aluminum (aluminium), I’ve found most waffle irons and sandwich toasters and the like, all the hinged ones that plug in, are usually quick to unscrew from the plastic and usually the heating element can be unscrewed or pried off the back. They are usually cast aluminum, they most always have silver contacts to cut off the dial, and of course the cord. The only worthless part is the plastic. For some reason the scrap yard thinks the heating element is toxic :)

You seem to leave a lot of moters behind. Fans, fridges, a lot of copper. I do this as a hobby and love to find fridges and anything with a motor. I do go through a lot of cutting wheels but I make it back easy in copper, even if not it's fun to make sparks. Lol

I thought to mention to you that there's a whole lot of CU in fan & vacuum motors. Same goes for vacuum cords, ballasts, electric razors/hair cutters, & you can rest assured of lamp cords predating 1984. HAPPY SCRAPPIN, BE SAFE!😃

Aaron Bratcher Here in Australia most suburbs have a council rubbish pick up So twice a year you can put all the items, rubbish you don’t want and place it out front on the kerbside for pickup

Not only scrapping is a hobby but it's a job that I take serious because it is a big part of my income here in the US you make big money each year upwards of 50 to 70 thousand dollars. There is a lot of scrap people throw away

I am curious about what people think about the street scrapping? Do you get dirty looks, or yelled at when you scrap a tv on the spot? I think this hard rubbish is a great idea, and wish we did it here in the area of the USA I live in. A great way to reduce land fill as you have mentioned.

I know that area, it's the Aspendale area, used to visit a mate in that area. Yep, cord-cutters have been there and got 12c worth of cord, and missed the light bulbs ($2 each total $6).

For the TV's when you don't have the right bit to take them apart you can take small sledge hammer and give it a good wack an the screws and brake the back loose from the TV so you can get the copper and board out.

In my part of the U.S., you can't put TVs out for trash anymore. The towns have electronic recycling days, several times a year and people have to take all of that kind of stuff there. Some big recycling company gets to recover all that copper. GRRRR! The scrappers in my town have to buy a permit for $25.00 a year. You see them picking up barbeque grills, washer/dryers, vacuums, lawnmowers and other low dollar scrap. It's a shame. Love your vids, though!

I'm from Sydney. The yards here pays 50c a kg for electric motors. With the right tools, might take 5 minutes to undo the motor from the appliance.

Everytime when I watch these videos I wonder; Why don't you buy a trailer and haul all the scrap steel, I mean you are there anyway might as well take it with you. Somewhere in de video you said "If scrappers from this neighbourhood come over to my neighbourhood they'll go nuts for all the cable and such". But if I would live there I would go totally crazy and take everything that has metal. I myself am currently looking at buying a new trailer just so that I can haul more scrap steel. Also I maybe have a video idea, I am considering buying a copper cable peel machine, but I wonder is it worth it? Do you have one? And why (not)? Maybe you can tell us what good ones are and which are not?

My scrapyard currently pays 0,16 Eurocent per kilo. I don't know if you call that low value, but for me it pays for petrol and a bit extra and all the other stuff I bring in is all profit.

About making a wire stripper, I've seen mulitiple videos about homemade strippers from using a blade to a thing with rolling presses, but I am not that handy and I wanted something like an automated machine that can proces all types of wire. The price for all insulated wire is 1,20 per kg and clean wire is 5,00 per kg so I thought it would be worth it to strip it. The reason why I collect steel is because I have the space for it and I don't get as much other metal like Ben does (unfortuantly).

Haye van Leeuwen Hey In regards to an auto wire stripper there awesome but you also have to factor into account preparation time for wire you have to cut wire into metre lengths You also have to cut off all attachments and then you have the waste factor so if you have 2 tonnes of cable you need at least a week if your by yourself to prepare the cable strip and bag it! Also most yards won’t accept tinned wire with your bright wire. My personal advice is unless you have a supplier that is going to supply you at least a tonne a week don’t buy a machine it’s a lot of money to have sitting in the back of the shed your looking at at least $3000.00 for a semi decent machine So high grade cable at the moment your paying $3.50 kg Then factor in time Priceless Then wear & tear on machine Then Rubbish disposal $2.80 kg for plastics Then the reward about $6.00 kg bright wire Also anything smaller then your thumb isn’t worth stripping from a commercial point of view and if it’s double insulated or lead or steel protected cable you loose recovery as well. From your suppliers point as well you don’t have any loyalty someone will offer the $0.10 kg more and they’ll sell it on you! Its amazing the amount of steel some people saying its low value but its quick money you could pick up 2 or 3 tonnes a day easy thats £360 a day here and it doesn't need processing id just find a yard that is closest to that area and you'd probably uncover more goodies under the steel

Joni Middleton, right? How many miles do you have to drive to find enough power cords to clip to equal a couple truck loads of metal that can be picked up going around one block in Australia. Everything here in Utah, USA is in a closed lid household garbage bin that gets picked up by an automatic arm on a garbage truck. Unless it’s sticking out, who knows what’s going to the landfill. I mean, sure a lot of cities have recycling pickups in a different colored bins but you can’t see what’s in them, and they have a spring cleaning pickup once a year, but mostly yard waste and couches. I can get $ for a bucket of cords or the same for a truckload of iron scrap metal.
