For those that don’t live in Melbourne. The reason that the scrappers roll out in force in these areas is that there are only a small handful of local council areas that have a “hard waste collection” the rest of Melbourne have adopted the “booked pickup” model. Councils save a fortune by only paying waste collection companies to collect booked pick ups vs picking up an entire suburb worth of trash, Not everyone will book 1pickup a year, but if the whole street did it then others just join in. I live north east of Melb, my council saves on average $320,000 to $370,000 per year booked pick up vs free for all. Also given the fact that most households would put out more than the allowed amount (2 cubic meters) and putting things out like paper, books, and cardboard that should be recycled through the normal bin system. A perfect example can be seen @04:10 Just remember that local government is NOT about serving the community, it is ALL about money. ...in case anyone cares 😎😎 Thanks for sharing your experience with us Ben

I used to find so many good things in dumps then sell it on marketplace. The most me and my dad found in one dump was $633 worth of stuff (collectable dolls). We probably averaged $200 an hour pre covid driving round finding stuff, post covid $150 then eventually $100, and now zero. everyone is throwing out less good stuff likely due to no personal savings so they are buying less new stuff, and throwing out less old stuff.
