I know or have known or worked with many Vietnam Vets. Besides what they experienced in country they weren't treated well when they returned home and many still resent that. My Father was a Korean War era vet and never understood how some of the country could treat it's returning soldiers that way and wasn't silent about his feelings. They're all older than me but you can tell after spending a short time with them, these people are as hard as nails. Yes, even the women (I've met some nurses that served in Vietnam). Remember that old guy with the Vietnam Veterans cap you see in town, was once and probably still is more of a bad ass than you will ever be.

WWII - William Waugh - US Army Special Forces Soldier and CIA paramilitary operations officer. Fifty years total! I feel like “Spill the Beans” should have been a Parker Brothers family board game in the 80s. Everyone puts a heavy plastic bean into a hanging pot until one bean too many tips and spills the pot. And then the little girl yells “Butterfingers!” at her kid brother.

Most veterans are not badass. They get older and unfit. Most aren’t even combat veterans. We all like when bullies get better up but this is not the life veterans lead 10 years after service. They are living the reality of normalcy. Married with families and jobs, alone, some homeless, some just addicts. That’s normalcy. Bless our veterans. They are just humans.

He did not spend 10 years in Nam. They were 13 month tours. many did do 3 or so but not 10.
