I loved what I saw of the A1 series but I didn't know about a stop in Durban. TV coverage of it in Canada was hit and miss and streaming wasnt a thing yet. I like this track ...it looks tough and fast and not conventional.

Excellent to see Durban here finally 😁 Future tracks, surely Birmingham has to be included. Over a decade to get the legislation for it and it lasted for 4-5 years (depending on your chosen race series)

I have fond memories of A1GP, but especially this track. Except for thst bloody hairpin, the last section of the track, especially turn 9, produced some great racing. I wish both the track and the series to make a comeback, please!

Great video! A circuit recommendation I thought of: The Willemstad Street Circuit in Curacao, used for one Formula 3000 race, and it should have been used by F1 the following year. I would love if you could make a video about that.

Great video, this track was beautiful. The sightlines were amazing. Would love to see the 2011-2013 Indycar/ALMS Baltimore with its similarly tight hairpin first corner.

I loved this track back in the day, and reflecting on it now it still looks great. On the subject of A1GP, you must do the Jingkai Street Circuit from Beijing. Now there was a failure of a street circuit, with a capital F. Fiasco from start to finish!

Baku even has three layouts: the current F1-tracks, the Baku race for the Sprint Cup back then and the Baku City Challenge (where the pitlane was housed on sort of a carpark if I remember correctly)

Here's an interesting track: Edmonton City Circuit. Raced with IndyCar up until 2012, and IIRC went through several layout designs and lost the series around 4-5 million per year.

Ah, yes, A1GP. A childhood memory of mine, as well as a crushed childhood dream venue in the form of Lippo Village Circuit which ended up not being used on the series and ran only local races for a short while until it's abandoned.

Great video. Your video seem to succeed in conveying the 'feel' of track and it's surroundings one would experience by following the live broadcast. Its superb you mentioned the sports cars race, I had no idea about it. South Africa has unique motorsport traditions, like South America. It even held own F1 championship.

I really like this series. A pity that A1gp did not continue. Formula powerful cars. Maybe would be great you check out the 2012 Callejero de Buenos Aires. It just held one Super TC 2000 race. The track was not particularly good but it was a huge event. However after the success of the race, the Super TC 2000 was not able to keep the track on the calendar.

A1GP! Fun fact, Durban almost got a Champ Car date in 2004 or 2005, but obviously that never came to fruition. I'd assume A1GP picked up where they had left off in discussions to bring racing back to Durban

I believe I read that the organisers had been trying to get a race held in the city for most of the 00's until they settled on A1GP.

I got to chat to Chris Alajajian about those Lola chassis years ago and he said the best and worst thing about them was the Cooper tires. They made the car fun to drive but there was some inconsistencies. You’d arrive at a corner 10 times in a row and it would be the same then for no reason at all it would feel like there was no temperature in them. Then things would go back to normal. Cooper did a really good job accommodating that series though.

On the subject of ‘there are worse hairpins that that’ remember the ridiculously tight hairpin at the Jingkai street circuit from A1GP’s second season? So tight they hastily abandoned it after practice. Even single cars struggled to navigate it let alone anything side-by-side 😂

A hairpin with a curved braking zone? Reminds me of one of the proposed layouts of the Adelaide street circuit where they had a fast S-bend directly into a sharp 90° corner, at the intersection of Morphett Street and Currie Street.

I remember A1GP a little. It was pretty good with rather fast cars. Sadly organisation was a mess so it folded. As for terrible tracks, you should check out the original Marrakesh track, which was used from 2009 to 2015. There has hardly ever been a more terrible track layout...

Seems like a cool track to drive at, even with the hairpin and the two chicanes. Hopefully I can find somewhere. Also keep up man, love watching your vids. As a recommendation, how about the DTM Shanghai tracks. I believe they did races in 2004 and a Non-Championship race in 2010, but I could be wrong.

Do hill climb circuits count for this series? Forks of the Credit Rd, Belfountain, Ontario, Canada - it was a hill climb track for a few years but it was "too noisy" and shut down. Brilliant bit of road. Would love to see your take on the hairpin with the "Wall of Losers" as I call it, an homage to the Wall of Champions in Montreal. P.S., I recently drove the Montreal F1 circuit. Good track, that. Way more narrow than you realise.

Great video as always. As a recommendation for a future video, you might take a look at the Formula E race in Bern. This story has everything -Legal Battles going on to this day -Protests against the race causing 400k in damages -Some of the worst organizing ever -A completely terrible track I really enjoy your videos, keep making them

The hairpins in San Jose and another one from the A1 GP in Beijing if I'm not mistaken, were much worse. Which doesn't make this first corner of Durban necessarily good. He's more like the one from Vancouver, who maybe should show up here in this series in the future. But like you said, we had some great races there. Indycar would be great to watch racing there. Great video.

At least the opening hairpin here was navigable by these cars…unlike the one on the Beijing street circuit that A1GP used. That corner could be easily navigated by a Formula E car, maybe by a Superkart or a regular kart. But these cars? Yeah, right!

Shame this track basically died the moment A1GP left with no other major racing series willing to use it, honestly would've loved to see the GP3 cars of the early 2010s going around it. Speaking of the FE race in cape town what do you think about finally getting to see a proper showcase of speed from the new cars and also that hairpin pitlane? (I think it's just awfully ironic that an ev racing series is coming into a country that's experiencing a prolong energy crisis)

Both chicanes reminded me of the old chicanes in surfers paradise when cart went there in the early 90s. The hairpin wouldve been much less carnage if it werent turn 1 but with no other logical start/finish then you don't have any ither options really. I didn't mind Durban that much. The revamped Kyalami was sub par but no comparison for Durban tbh
