This somehow wasn't the only Indycar track disrupted by train tracks - Baltimore had them as well and it caused issues in their second of three seasons running there when they removed a chicane (temporarily; they reinstalled it after practice). There are a fair few Indycar ones to include: Baltimore could be one; there's also the Sao Paolo street circuit that included a concrete section that was so slick that in the first race they had to postpone qualifying and replace it with extra practice because they couldn't regrade it until the evening, and thought it was unfair to hold qualifying on an unsuitable track. Believe it also rained either that year or the following one and god only knows what the combination of rain and a surface that already had cars moving all over the place finding grip would have been!

the são paulo race was wet in both 2010 and 2011, and the latter is still what i consider one of the wettest races in Indycar history (so wet it had to be run over 2 days). circuit it's self, i agree, was kinda rubbish. also, i think the reason for that concrete section being so slick may have been the amount of dust/sand on the track surface? atleast from what i remember of what i saw, that's what was happen with that.

Great series mate! Some other ideas: Beijing International Street Circuit (Olympic) - Superleague Formula in 2010. Finished so late it didn't reach FIA Grade status it needed, so the race had to be Non-Championship. Beijing International Street Circuit (Jingkai) - A1GP 2006. A hairpin so tight that cars couldn't make it around without stopping or reversing. It was removed and replaced with a hairpin which was a tiny bit easier, but had the pit entrance wall on the exit which was just as bad. Bern ePrix - A silly paddock solution made getting in and out of the pitlane easy. A compromised startline location into an unnecessary triple chicane as the first corner inevitably led to a full grid pileup on the race start. The downhill section was cool and once the drivers had survived lap 1 (after a messy restart order argument) the track produced some good racing, but it never came back. Cagliari Street Circuit - A circuit too tight for anything that somehow hosted F3000 on Sardinia, and was roundly dropped after two seasons in a row. Curaçao Grand Prix - A 1985 attempt to get the Carribean island part of the Netherlands to join the F1 calendar hosted an F3000 race to prove its worth, but the tight street circuit wasn't suited to F3000s and the track would need significant upgrades not possible before it was never held again.

I attended all three of these events . Had a great time. Wish the original layout could have been used. I live there and it’s clear why they couldn’t do that logistically. Honestly surprised they ever got this event “off the ground” in the first place. This race was moved 70 mi south to Laguna Seca for 2008 but the IndyCar/ChampCar merger prevented that since IndyCar had a race booked at nearby Sonoma, 100 mi to the north. Sebastian Bourdais actually set an unofficial track record at Laguna in the DP01 in a testing session but the cars never got to race there. Glad I got to see them race in 2007, coolest American GP car ever made by far.

Excellent series so far. I've really enjoyed all parts. You might already have gotten enough submissions from other commenters, but I think one great track to cover would be the DTM-only track Alemannenring in Singen. It ran from 1991 to 1995 and is known as the southernmost race track ever used in Germany. I do not know why it stopped being used, although I think it had to do mainly with DTM going international, although this is just assumption. Another track that might be worth looking at (Although it is technically still in use for motorsport revival events) would be the Donauring which ran in Ingolstadt from 1949 to 1954. It was an anomaly in the area due to DKW settling into Ingolstadt at the time and the track managed to reach audiences of around 100000 for it's yearly event, in which motorcycles and Formula 3 cars (Obviously in seperate races) drove, although often the Formula 3 cars and motorcycles had exchangeable engines at the time. It might be pretty hard finding historic footage for the Donauring. As far as I know it stopped being used due to monetary issues and lack of entries after the 1954 race.

One of the biggest problems that killed interest in the race was only tangentially track related. They sold General Admission tickets, which didn't guarantee the seat. Only there was barely anywhere you could see the track with a General Admission pass. The organizers put up green tarp along the fences around most of the track the first year, blocking any potential view from the standing room General Admission areas.

"The rail tracks are gone. You can rejoice." Well that's kinda dumb really. Removing transit infrastructure inside of a downtown area. And it was only a problem due to the high speeds they had to go over them at. If the track was redesigned to have it be a substantial corner instead, then the rails wouldn't be a problem anymore. As the speed would be at least a bit slower and they'd cross them at a much shallower angle. Rather than dead f***ing head on.
@tydyeracinggaming4742
@tydyeracinggaming4742 2 жыл бұрын
You raise a good point their. I think (and this is just a guess) that the reason a tighter type of corner wasn't created, was because they wouldn't have much space to create a suitably tight chicane/corner. All whilst not causing the pit lane exit to have an awkward merger, or indeed for there to be enough space to have a pit exit at all.
@vulduv
@vulduv 2 жыл бұрын
@@tydyeracinggaming4742 That is true, it would make the already quite narrow track even narrower. Honestly feels like putting the circuit in downtown was a cursed decision from the start. Since downtowns tend to have much more narrow streets. (And for good reason.)

I think they said in the 2005 broadcast that the race had been approved dangerously close to its race date, so there was very little the organizers could do about the layout. I wish I could find the timestamp but I honestly can't be bothered to watch such a ridiculous race again.

Jingkai Street Circuit, held a round of A1GP in 2006, when the teams turned up they discovered could not actually negotiate the hairpin that leaf to the track being redesigned between practice sessions, shortening the track from 1.9 miles to 1.3 miles, The new track was no better as a new hairpin was tight leading to drivers having to avoid the pit entry wall, manhole covers and advertising banners came loose Qualifying ended up being cancelled, both races had to start under safetycar cos turn one was deemed unsafe

I hate to say it as I’m a massive champ car fan. But CART had a massive lying problem when it came attendance figures. 120,000 is a severe inflation. compare the trackside infrastructure to an event like the Adelaide 500 which sees 180,000+ people through the gates over 4 days. There’s no way this circuit could accomodate 25,000+ per day average assuming he event was held over 4 days. Cart even said they had over 100,000 at Laguna seca 😂 and that was dismissed by one of the former track managers on a podcast. Anyway I’m really enjoying this series. You’re creating great content and I’ll suggest a few as they come to mind in future videos. As for now in keeping with Champcar/ IndyCar themed events I’ll suggest the early 2010s Baltimore events.

Ah ok. I mean to be fair, considering the size of the track, I'd still say a crowd of 40/50,000 on race day is pretty good. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the content. I'll more than likely do Baltimore. That track has become the most requested one so far.
