Wow! This takes me back. 1980 or '81. To a winter's night in Wolf Point, Montana where I heard this song come on the radio from a station out of Regina, Saskatchewan. Call letters, either CHAB or CKCK. The only good music stations we could pick up in that part of Montana unless we could catch something out of Kansas City on a cold, clear night with some signal skip. As I think about it I also heard Gary Wright's 'Dream Weaver' that same night just before this song came on. It's amazing what memories music causes to be locked into our brains. That was over 35 years ago. I was 16 or 17 years old. Thanks for the memories.

I did not know that Streetheart had been performing this song. Wow, sounds like a classic on the first listening (although a cover). There's even a part of the song where the vocals remind me of Gowan's voice. Boy do I ever still like Streetheart. Their songs have aged without a ripple, without loosing a bit of their energy. Another outstanding band from western Canada, one of many. Proud to be Canadian !

The one thing I miss from the original is the line, "I just gotta make you - my occupation!" For some reason, that line just sends me, and it's a shame that this version leaves the line hanging. But I do love both versions - and the recording quality on this one definitely is a lot better, I agree.

Reminds me of Elton John covering Pinball Wizard or Lucy In The Sky... The SF original is so raw and emotional, this is a polished and classy production. Fair play to Streetheart for putting it out there, but better than the original ??? Jog on...
@teknicalmusic11610 жыл бұрын
I think by any objective metric, this version is better than the original small faces version. This is not to knock the small faces at all (they wrote the song after all, and are incredible musicians) but by 1979 (when this was produced) the production technology was vastly superior to what was available when the small faces first recorded. In addition, Streetheart's drummer and bass player are incredibly tight in this version (tighter than in the small faces version).
@johnnybananne10 жыл бұрын
not so sure!
@homomorphic10 жыл бұрын
johnnybananne I did say by any objective metric. The great thing about art, is that objective measures don't necessarily mean all that much, what matters most is how the piece speaks to the individual. If you like the small faces version better, then that trumps all the objective measures in the world :-)

Why do people always have to assume that the original version of a song is better??? +karen barlow Both bands are well known to make Covers of others' music... uniquely adding their touch. In fact Streetheart won praise from Mick Jagger for the Cover of "Under my thumb". Given that Jimmy Page has travelled the music world extensively, not that long ago was jamming with Jack White and having a good time reminiscing about how to play certain songs... I would have to kindly disagree.
@eatonbeaver69728 жыл бұрын
You should not insult Streetheart. While both bands made covers of other peoples music, Streetheart made straight up covers while Zeppelin basically ripped off other artists and called the songs their own. Also, while yes I would agree Jimmy Page was great in the studio, whenever you hear him live, he cant live up to his hype. I like a ton of Zeppelin material, I just wish they would not have ripped off so many others to be as big as they were. While they got rich and fat, they stole so much from people who died in poverty!!!!
