How do you let go so quickly when Shiva holds you?

I quickly mash the face buttons and you should be able to break free.

(EDIT: This info is outdated with the new updates) You should be able to reliably get Shiva in a grab when he is guarding for a combo. You can also grab him when he jumps towards you at the start of the fight / when he wants to jump. Good way to get damage. Historically you can grab Mr X when he starts moving. Just move straight to him when Shiva is dead. In this game he laughs all the time when he shoots. A good opportunity to strike at him, so long as his minions are not swarming around being annoying.

How do you get to do a flashback

You use a taser dropped from one of the policeman on an arcade machine. That is how flashbacks are done. There is one in the jail that i know about for sure, and then whichever level this one was.
