Late reply on a 2 year old comment but, I'm pretty much the same age, 41, living in UK, and SoR 1+2 were the games of my youth. Along with Pit Fighter, Desert/jungle strike, Zombies, Flashback, Gunstar heroes and so many others! The other day I saw a video here on YT about an upcoming game called "Unrecorded". Photo realistic graphics. Crazy to think not all that long ago, relatively speaking, Megadrive was peak graphics. I can guarantee anyone that older games with shitty graphics are on average far more fun and playable.

The best SOR game ever as far as I'm concerned. Used to play this game for hours. My favorite feature hands down is the CPU partner with an aggressive personality. Made the game so much more fun. Totally ahead of it's time. It still unbelievable as to why game markers of these types of games don't also put in the CPU partner feature.

Damn, you play so much better than me. I'm gonna ask for some tips. How did you do that lunge attack with no stars, the grab smash, and the grab knee smash? I'm also glad I'm not the only one spamming the lunge attack when I have two stars. 😅

You can access all the moves regardless of stars with a button combination. To lunge its like tap X then down then forward

I did not expect this new version to come out, I thought 5.1 was the definitive version of the whole experience, now it's better than ever! The new MR.X portrait in the intro is scarier than before! But I think the previous intro was a little better, but I like it! It still would be nice to have the optional SOR4 mechanics for this game since I love the combat system from 4. Now all I need a 100% complete game save for 5.2 and i'll be set!! Hope someone can provide me with that so I can get to making videos of this version!

Probably because he's OP. Certain characters like SoR2 Skate, Shiva, and Rudra are also really good but they require some finesse to play to their full potential. Max is easy to just pick up and start wrecking faces with

Yes, he died prior to the update's release last Summer. He's the one who made the new versions of Beatnik on the Ship, Alien Power, even the new stage scenes 5.1 didn't have.

Some of the Genesis games really are complete gems. If it weren’t for the latest release of Streets of Rage 4, I never would’ve gotten into the series.

FYI, Max's "neck snap" ability is probably the strongest single move in the game. If I remember correctly from the originals, once it starts, it cannot be cancelled by either the opponent, or even Max himself, only "outside" interference from someone else. It's so powerful, that not even boss combo-breakers like Abadede's can break out of it when being attacked (I noticed at least one new one from R. Bear in the Remake (lol). If you're alone with a boss or an enemy, it's the way to go for a fast victory! Just grapple them, and press [ATK] while standing still as Max =]

in the older versions max could cancel the head lock with his forward special but only right before the next "snap", whether he can do that in this version I don't know.

I'm AMAZED that Sega didn't take these people on board to make the SOR3 sequel. SOR4 was a laughing stock compared to this. Sure it doesn't have the artwork or graphical detail, but the atmosphere was just so on point. The atmosphere in SOR4 was SO bad that I refused to even buy that game. It's a damn shame that these people didn't get the chance to work on SOR4. I consider this the true sequel.

The char audio is still bad as if on an older system! You mean, they didn't figure it out! The graphics and features do not mean anything if it makes you cringe to think about playing it! I've owned both and--if I had a choice--it's the SNES easily. At least, I don't have to listen to mono-like sound the whole game in a beat em up or fighting game...
