2011 Chevrolet takes the heavy-duty pickup battle to the test track -- and the mountain roads -- in "HD to HD," a video series that pits 2011 Silverado HD pickups against the competition in real-world tests of capabilities that matter to real-world truck buyers.
The tests include acceleration, passing, and braking tests, all conducted with a loaded bed, or in some cases, a loaded trailer. Other tests measure the effectiveness of the exhaust brakes on long downgrades and the stiffness of the frames during twist-ditch simulations. Almost the only guy with brains here... I have the same question: HOW THE FUCK DOES THESE THINGS IN VIDEO RELATE TO THE FRAME STRENGTH?!?!?!?!?!?! P. S. I'm a Dodge guy, but still, this test is objectively strange...

Uh cause tongue weight is distributed through the frame. I gaurantee both those hd trucks had weight distributing hitches and that's what they do and that's how it tests frame strength. You Ford boys sure are smart.

We have at work a 15 gmc 3500 utility truck and a 14 ford 350 utility truck both are good trucks but gmc does handle weight better. They are both awesome trucks. I hope they keep competing it just means we will keep getting better trucks from both ford and gm

We pull close to 30,000 pound of lumber on the daily with our F-250 04 that truck has no problem. It’s not equipped with a towing package and it’s only a 6.0

My 6.7 has had 3200 lbs in the bed and it did not sag nearly as much. Something tells me this F250 had some shitty shocks put on it. Have fun with your lawsuits GM!

I have personal experience with two DMAXs (05 GMC and 08 Chev) that routinely pull 30k lbs that have never had any problems in over 100k miles. I also have personal experience with a 2010 6.4 Powerstroke that spent more time in the shop the first year than on the ranch. That's not bias. That's a fact.

That's also because it's a 6.4... The 6.4's and the 6.0's were not known for reliability, I would agree that in the 2005-2008 range that the GM trucks are better reliability-wise.

What those axles are strong Chevy didn’t sell anything higher than I believe a 3.72 gear ratio cause they didn’t want the axle to break when pulling something like that they also thought it was a good idea to put an Alison trans in it so it wouldn’t blow up like the rams do. And by the way the commercials and the manufacturer are two different things the commercials are shit but the manufacturer is good they think of what the people are actually gonna use it for.

The difference is your truck was an older model.....during the 2000's< current iteration, this was how FORD was setting up the suspensions. They wanted to make sure their trucks were the highest/tallest when unloaded. You body style was much better than these< up until the revamped current generation.

I'm a chevy owner but even i can tell this is 100% biased. If you look at the sag graph that they show 2:32 the length of the bars ar not consistent with the ratio of the actual numbers, making the ford look worse than it actually is.

I have a feeling they did something with the springs, they upgraded them in the Chevy cuz fords don't lean that easy. If anything g Chevys have always leaned more than fords. We have both 2013 Ford F-350 and Chevy Silverado 3500 and the Silverado leans like crazy and it can't pull for shit, also the gas mileage is terrible we get around 8 mpg but in the ford we get 14 mpg.

Simply go to a ford dealer and go t a chevy dealer compare the leaf spring stacks. The chevy has 2 more the reason for that is the fords sacrificed 2 for better ride quality due to the strait axle in the front. Ford did this in 2012 if u notice that's when they lowered the rear ends of the fords theyre not all hiked up like the early 2000. Again due to ride quality because the majority of people buying these trucks don't tow with them, when towing the old 2000 have the best ride when fully loaded....

My god is this rigged, our shop truck '99 powerstroke holds 4k+ lbs in the bed and only squats the rear end to level with the front. The whole truck weights almost 12k lbs.

I hauled 5 ton of 2a gravel with a 20ft trailer, I had the loader keep the stone toward the front of the trailer because I didnt have a gate on the back of the trailer, I had no problems hauling it but it did squat, mostly because the load was in front of the axles.

as a mopar fan, let me give you guys a comparassion test. the 2011 chevy silerado hd put out 350hp/650tqe (d-max lbz), the 2011 ford super duty put out 390hp/735tqe ( p-stroke 6.7), and the 2011 dodge ram hd put out 350hp/800tqe (cummins 6.7). so plz tell me which has more strength?

What is the recomended load on the hook? In a normal car it's like maximum 70-100 kg depending on the car. That trailer must have been way to front heavy.

I have a 2000 F350 Supercab 4x4 longbed with the camper package. The spring pack in the back of my truck is significantly thicker than in a new F350. Ford lightened them up quite a bit.

the chevy if its a diesel...has 10k gvwr, the payload on these are 2324lbs with a loaded dmax....the trailer has a 400lb tongue weight...so this thing is overloaded by 100 lbs without thd trailer, and tongue weight makes it 500...add on men and tools, and the chevy over cap by 900 to 1000 lbs....

All three have their weak links for sure. Lets look at resale of a powerstroke vs. a duramax the proof is in the pudding. A 10 year old duramax is still going for 24 to 30 thousand dollars. I personally have experience with superduty and silverado trucks and I know everyone has different experiences between brands. My daily driver is a 1998 k1500 with 400,000 miles and the drivetrain is all original. Ya I have had to replace alternators, batteries, and other common truck parts that wear out. My father is a contractor who has a fleet of trucks and he sold his last powerstroke two years ago because he could not keep it out of the shop. He had three superdutys with 7.3l lol the good one (so they say) and it was one headache after another. Injector control modules, injectors, couldn't keep a transmission in one of them. Had a 1994 with a idi 7.3 and it dropped a valve at 70,000 miles. The truck was sold with 138,000 miles on it and it was on its third transmission. Now he has a fleet of silverado pickups all with 200,000 to 400,000 miles on them and other than stupid things like a broken door handle, or a coil pack, and some routine maintenance no issues at all. They work everyday and are driven by many different people which is what I believe really hurts a truck. Everyone has their preference but as far as diesels go Powerstrokes are a bad bet. Just ask people who bought 6.0l. LOL

I really do love all trucks, and i own a a f150 myself. But when they showed the movement of the suspension a lot of that was from the forklift coming down...you should test with the least amount of variables.

Jobe Hickernell no I meant this kid replying to you. I was also 15 at one point with one swap under my belt and I know 'me and my friends do swaps' came out of my stupid mouth at least once. Was shining a light on his experience. You're good I'm sure. On another note, the guy in the video is literally the old spokesman for Chevy truck commercials, this program is clearly biased, but Idk how 'you and your friends doing swaps' makes you able to spot a fake chassis rigidity test? Or even what makes him think it's faked or rigged.

According to some other comments, ford was using C channel frame rails whereas dodge and Chevy had boxed. Ford switched to box frame shortly after.

Rear springs at Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is 20% wider than the rear springs at Ford F-250 Super Duty (which is already sagged...) and it's AMCI Testing.

I own a 2012 f250 powerstroke and I can say that it does squat bad with some weight on it. It doesn't have anything to do with strength, Ford focused on ride quality and towing/hauling capabilities. If you feel it necessary to prevent the squat buy some airbags and you will have the perfect tow vehicle.

Dads F-150 older model, hauled 6,000 pounds of scrap plus a trailer and it did not come down near what the super duty did.

2 different palettes the blue one has about 2280 pounds And the one that they put on the Chevy has about 1800 pounds. You could tell on the straps position and the gaps that they have between the bags

Ive stacked 6700 pounds a cement on my 94 silverado 1500 it looked like a lowrider drove it handled iffy its got 250k miles

Why did the for not sit as level? because we chose the lightest springs available for the truck, because not everybody hauls weight around all the time and wants a softer ride, and it makes the test look more in our favor.

I serviced cell phone towers in 2 f350`s those roads are very ruff and crazy. I saw this and i have to tell you when ford twists you hear it very load. So i decided to get out and see for my self i got the f350 twisted like normal on that road. I kicked the door open because it was stiff and the tailgate wouldn't open. The fords got me a lot of places but i can tell you first hand it is tuff on truck which brought a lot of repair bills.

This test is more about leaf springs than the frames. I bet the Super Duty had the snow plow prep package which makes these trucks basically nose high from the factory. Plus from personal experience Ford has put less leafs into f250 trucks to improve ride quality. Where the F350s I've looked at had an extra leaf or 2. This would bw similar to cranking the keys to level the GM, then loading weight into the bed. It's going to be nose high.

Chevy paid for this test. lol I'm sure the equipment in the trucks weren't modified at all, and the results definitely weren't biased whatsoever. Seems legit.

There should be flexiblity to anything because if it's stiff you can feel bumps and then can be no transfer of weight distribution

I have a 2011 1500 with the 5.3 v8 and I towed a 5000 pund dump trailer with 5 Ton of stone and it handled it with little effort
