The HEMI tick issue is a bit more complicated than described. There are 2 issues. One is the lifter tick that you mentioned. It is actually the less common tick. Caused (generally) by high idle time on the engine, since the stock oil pump drops oil pressure down into the 30s (psi), while it normally runs into the mid-high 50s while running. My 77k mile 2015 Hemi Ram Limited has about 2000 hours total on the engine, and only about 200 hours of that is idle time. I do everything in my power to reduce idling the engine. There is evidence out there that the nest way to prevent this is to increase the idle oil pressure by swapping to the 6.2L Hemi oil pump, as it is a bolt on swap. The housings on the pump are the same, but the 6.2L pump has extra teeth, internally that cause a higher oil pressure while at idle, helping to ensure the lifters get oiled while not under load. The other tick is far more common and is cause by broken studs/exhaust manifold. Generally while the engine is cold, the broken stud allows the exhaust manifold to pull away from the block slightly, so that when started, the "slapping" of the manifold causes a ticking sound. Once the engine is warmed up, this tick will generally go away. From my research this is due to different metals being mated together, but I cannot personally validate that. Perhaps swapping to headers is the best fix?

Are these also the engines that had valve seat issues? The hardened valve seats were pressed into the heads - but since they were made of different metals they would expand and contract at different rates. Sometimes dropping the valve seat into the cylinder.

@@christopher7026 - I cant say. I do not pretend to be a mechanic, but since this is my engine, I made it a point to know the flaws. I can say that I have not heard of that issue with this gen of Hemi. :)

​@@TFLtruckoh no, my disabled vet of 15 years mom, and me also disabled, was shot in my heart when I was 8 and in coma and my mom, with 2 other children, became the head of comm command of NASA, and Patrick Afb as a single mom, then was in a nuclear silo without a suit and there was an accident, and she burned her lungs, she was 34, and she had coughed and been on oxygen since, she is in bad shape, but we spent 25 years poor and struggling since, finally after a long battle she finally got compensated from the military, 140k was it in 2008, after a long fight, we bought a new kia sorento and spent many years getting her credit good, recently she was given bad news by the doctor that she is in the final stages of her life, I have taken care of her since the accident and have had a really hard life, I also have really bad diabetes and all she has is me, we were living in a 2 bedroom apartment upstairs and were scammed by a bug guy who got busted, and had to throw away our stuff and move, she could no longer go up the stairs anyway, and we are in a better place now and I am trying hard to get her a bed that lifts and a chair, all she has is this bad chair that I hate, we right before we moved got a 2014 chevy 5.3 Silverado, with 123k miles, for 22k, and thank god we thought, the loan was excepted, the truck is in great shape, and I love it, finally we have something nice for once, I have had it 6 weeks now, and then I see this video and me and my moms heart sank, i can't believe it, it figures, we have such horrible luck, i don't know what to do now, we are so sad now, and yes i have noticed something weird going on with the shifting, and the headlights are horrible, have something wrong with lenses, and noticed surges in the electrical, and the locks locking me out, something weird is going on, we don't know what to do😢 I can't believe it, we finally get a nice truck, it also has exhaust mods, and nice 22 rims, tint, but the a/c is not cold like it should be also, I have a bad feeling now 😢 Should we take it back and trade it for something else, do you have any advice 4 a great year chevy, with good headlights, a/c and no issues? Tick on the Ram is exhaust manifold leaking. The valvetrain on that particular engine sounds ok - as the rev descend with the throttle closed the engine didn’t make any ticking noise.

These guys are extremely annoying and generally clueless. On the Ram, It’s the exhaust manifold bolts in the rear of the manifold that are broke. Common issue. They take a truck that has been beat to crap and categorically chastise it.

That ticking your hearing with the ram is the exhaust leak. The passenger side manifold cracks around the rear bolt. On start up you will definitely hear it but once the engine warms up it will go away because the manifold will expand. I have had several of these trucks and everyone has had this issue.

It's the lifters. These trucks have horrible lifter issues, I've owned two. But you aren't completely wrong as the exhaust manifold does start to tic eventually but it's definitely different

The lifter issue has nothing to do with mds, it’s related to trucks that idled for long periods. The hemi design lifted the location of the camshaft leading to poor oiling when oil pressure is low. Higher pressure oil pump can fix this

There is also a fuel injector tick that can sometimes be mistaken for the lifter. But that is definitely not the lifter tick. Goes away after 30 seconds. Mine has both exhaust manifolds that have warped on the backend of the engine

2011 6.7L diesel was a complete different engine. The 6.4L, 6.0L, 7.3L, and 6.9L diesels were all Navistar engines. The 6.7L was Ford's first in house built pickup diesel.

@@devbloggs Pre-2008 model year, yes. 2008 saw the crackdown on diesel exhaust particulates. It was the beginning of the worst diesel engines ever built across the entire diesel segment. So bad that it put 2 diesel manufacturers completely out of the game. Navistar in light duty pickups and Caterpillar in the heavy trucks.

The tick is most likely an exhaust leak from the manifold. The manifolds get hot and start to warp and the bolts break. This is very common in this generation of Ram. If you change the oil frequently and take care of the truck. It will run forever. My 2015 Ram has been amazing to me beside the manifold leaks.

I had a ‘14 Ram with 14 recalls/TSBs. After 90k miles one thing after another broke on it and I maintained it impeccably. That trashed out interior on that auction Ram told me all I needed to know about it, whether the tick was a lifter or the exhaust manifold. If the owner neglected it that badly, it’s a bright red flag for me.

We have a 2015 Ram 1500 Laramie crew cab 4x4 with the EcoDiesel engine. We bought it new in 2016, and we've used it to tow a 28' travel trailer. It's our favorite vehicle to drive for long trips. It's extremely comfortable to drive and gets excellent fuel mileage. The big problem with this truck is that it has had 9 factory recalls so far. The local Chrysler/Ram dealer never seems to have the parts needed to correct the item under recall, and we're still waiting for a new fuel pump that was recalled nearly 9 months ago.

I have a '16 EcoDiesel also. I used to love it but after it was recalled for a mandatory de-tune for emissions the off-line performance was destroyed to the point that is almost dangerous at intersections because it lags so badly when cold. The fuel economy is also now not as good. Otherwise, it has been reliable (except for a DEF injector replacement) for 146,000 km but there are so many negative comments about it that I am becoming uncomfortable about keeping it.

100% that noise on the RAM is exhaust manifold leaking, just had mine replaced on my '16 before warranty ran out. However, knowing that they can have lifter issues and given the appearance of the interior I would steer clear of that particular truck because it probably wasn't properly maintained (i.e. proper oil and filter changes) which is a major factor in the lifter failures.

100% correct that is a warped exhaust manifold and broken bolts from the manifold to the head. I see this constantly on the hemi and triton engines. The log style exhaust manifold designs all warp and snap studs or bolts.

Thanks guys for doing this video. When I bought my 2012 Ram 1500 with 4.7L v-8 in 2016 it had 34k miles on it. A mechanic friend of mine said that 4.7’s were good. When I showed my brother who’s mechanic, said that by 100k miles, I’ll have to rebuild or replace the engine. The truck has 135,350 trouble free miles on it, I keep it maintained, no hot Roding, etc. It’s the newest vehicle that I’ll ever own, the others in the driveway is ‘93 Chevy Silverado with 5.7L & ‘02 Yukon XL with 5.3L. I don’t think that any manufacturers make quality vehicles anymore. Y’all keep’m coming

You got the second gen 4.7, much improved over first gen. Beefed up the valvetrain and gave it about 60 more horse. What I've observed with most problematic engines is most of the issues come down to lack of maintenance. Use a good oil and filter and change every 3 to 5,000 miles. But some engines are just badly designed

I once owned a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, same engine with 6 speed automatic and four wheel drive. Mine was a LT, black, extended cab with standard 6 1/2 foot bed. Bought it used in May 2017 for $23,000 with over 32,000 miles. Traded it in for a 2020 Silverado in December 2020 and got $10,000 on the trade in, with over 184,000 miles on the 2014. After all those miles, it never gave me any problems with regular routine maintenance from my local Chevrolet dealership. Even with the high mileage, I was still getting over 20 mpg and the active fuel management system (V8/V4) didn’t give me any issues. This truck is definitely a buy, a definite not on the Dodge Ram. Don't forget the 8spd Transmission issues in those model Silverados and up. There wasn't a recall but everyone I know that had one got rid of them cause they had different issues that caused bad shuttering. They told me I had the wrong fluid in mine for 50,000 miles. Was like running a Posi rear end with no friction modifier. Which in turn had the torque converter messed up.

My stepfather had one. He dumped many thousands of dollars into the engine. After the oil cooler melted, everything got deleted and tuned. Some hack “diesel mechanics” talked him into replacing every module in the truck over the span of 2 years. He replaced the rear differential. I put 2 AC compressor clutches and one AC compressor on it and I spent dozens of hours chasing intermittent CanBus faults that would result in a PATs lock out and/or a no crank condition (because none of those new modules actually solved the problem). I still see that truck in my nightmares. Somehow a “snake” managed to crawl into the cab and scared him out of the truck while driving across a pond dam. Needless to say, that truck now has all of the CanBus faults and whoever made the mistake of buying it at auction got to figure them out. Everything about working on that truck sucked. Driving the behemoth in the city was nerve-wrecking with aggressive tread tires. You always felt like you didn’t fit in the lane and the damn thing wouldn’t drive straight for shit. I will say that after being tuned, it had some very impressive power, but when you don’t know whether or not it is going to crank in the morning, gobs of power doesn’t mean a whole lot...

I have a 2014 Silverado LT (155,000 miles) also BLUE and I haven't really had any issues with it (Besides replacing the AC condenser ) and have had it since 22k miles (One owner). I run it on E85 all the time and I've cheeked inside the cylinders with a camera and there is no carbon buildup at all (E85?). As for the transmission I always swap the trans fluid every 50k miles and Tow maybe twice a month. SO far so GOOD ✅🏁

You will soon experience the torque converter failure. I have the same truck and 140,000 miles the torque converter starting making some noise. Unfortunately once you have that, it's too late and the torque converter sends aluminum shavings into the transmission and it wrecks them. It's a big problem and once I looked into it, all of them eventually experience this. Look into it, you might be able to save your transmission if you take action before it happens.

An old job I worked at in 2011 had 11 Fords: 5 6.0s, 3 6.4s, & 2 6.7s. Those 6.4s were crap all around & for dual turbo motor no power & one of them needed turbos at under 20k miles. The 6.7s were great, the 6.0s honestly from my experience weren't that bad. Not the most powerful thing for it's time but still get the job done.

I own a 2011 gmc 1500 Sierra 5.3 extended cab it has 286k and towed 40% of the time . I had changed twi lower ball joints brakes rotors and tires batterys and two serpentine belts and wipers. It still runs great .

Your '11 is a decade into building LS engines. The '14 is the start of the LT engines and new trans controllers. That's the cause of many of the reliability issues.

The Ford 6.4 PSD is one of the worst diesels put in a modern pickup truck. The 6.0 is reliable if you keep them stock or build it for power. It cannot handle power with a stock block like the 7.3.

As a 15 ram single cab, only had the exhaust manifold leak . Dealer fix it for free. After a year or so got ARH headers catless tuned and trans tune as well. No issues . No hemi tick yet but personally I will get a cam and delete mds and a few more goodies once I get 100k miles.

I have a 16 ram 1500 with 5.7 hemi. truck has 310,000 on it no lifter problems. it does tick on start-up but goes away after truck warms up. This is caused by exhaust manifold studs breaking.

My last truck was that King Ranch. Each to their own. I loved the truck. Although I put a lot of money into it, replacing everything. The only part I hated to most was the seats. To me. It was like sitting on plastic chairs. The most uncomfortable vehicle seats I have ever had. Then. Try to clean them. All of the leather in the cab. Never again. The very last thing that I had fixed was the main radiator. A common problem.

When I was shopping for a Truck after buying a 22 foot travel trailer, I noticed the used truck market is full of trucks with the model years the manufacters had issues involving recalls or failing engines and other major issues. Granted, some had the issues fixed, but the owner decided to dump the vehicle. I ended up purchasing a 2010 Nissan Titan, and all research and reviews say I made the best decision regarding a used Truck.

Interesting video. Can’t disagree with your conclusions based on my knowledge and exposure. Rule of thumb on AFM, etc., is keep the oil clean per my trusted mechanic. I am a GM (Chevys, Buicks, and Cadillacs) guy. Mostly Chevy. More recently three 5.3 liter and three 6.2 liter motors. Generally bulletproof and long lived. I kept that Mobil One Synthetic clean in all and it paid off with great service. No tranny issues either. My 2001 Suburban was traded by my son-in-law at 315k on the original 4 speed automatic. I’m on my third used RAM (6 months on third). 2011 RAM - Got it at 40k ram till 250k, no major problems. 2017 RAM - 5.7L Hemisphere, got it at 30k, ran till 270k no major problems 2019 RAM - 5.7L Hemi, got at 40k, at 55k with no problems. I do not consider seat wear a “problem”.

Same here. I am an original owner of my 14 Silverado and I’ve only had to do general maintenance thus far. I run Mobil 1 synthetic, changed my trans fluid to a higher end synthetic, K&N intake, Borla exhaust, tuned with LED upgrades. The underbody coating sucks but I brushed and sprayed it. The rear diff seems to clunk into gear every once in a blue moon when in between awkward shift and speed combinations. I tow 7,000 lbs with it and it is happy above 2k rpm’s. Of course I wish it had more low end torque but it’s paid for!

It’s a work truck trim and was used as a fleet vehicle with required maintenance completed at every interval at gm dealers and independent shops. No lifter noise and transmission shifts like butter. I have had my 1998 ram 1500 with a 318cc V8 for 25 years and 150 miles. It has been used as a work truck and vacations in the Georgia mountains. I have kept up with the maint. and repairs. Replaced the transmission at 106 miles with a reman. Also had it repainted 9 years ago. I will keep this truck as long as I can since I don't like all the sensors and new tech on the new ones. The price of the new trucks is absurd.

I see lots of trucks filthy like that at the auctions here. I have bought quite a few of them too and they are normally well maintained just dirty. Lot of them come from oil and gas companies. They need those trucks every day and normally have their own mechanic. They keep all the fluids and all changed just they don't keep them that clean. I bought one a few years ago that was a really nice truck. Just it had like 95k miles it was a Silverado like 7 years old I got at the auction for $14k. Crew cab LT with the 5.4, 4x4. Had a brand new set of BFGs on it one of the more aggressive tread patterns. It also had a propane cylinder in the bed so I could run on either gas or natural gas. It was a lot cleaner then this Ram but it wasn't spotless. There was a half dozen or so more that were really dirty. This one had carpet and all though the others all had the rubber mat floors so maybe the one I got was the boss truck.

I agree, the newer the vehicles becomes, the more plastic and sensors they have. My all time favorite is the early ninety's jeep Cherokee. Man those things will just go on for ever if maintained. I remember the trans finally went out at 272k miles and that thing had some hard miles on it, especially as I took it off road and sling lots of mud with it as well as out in the snow. The only thing that I had to replace twice was the water pump and tires. Had it when it had 155k miles and I drove it from MI to OH to NE and back to MI. I hate all the plastic they use now not to mention the rediculous sensors that often need to be replaced which the sensor itself is no big deal, but some cases, it's getting to the damn things that's the real pita.

I used to own a 2019 silverado 5.3 with a 8 speed automatic . Boy let me Tell you !!! The DFM feeling is like a cold 1950 car . Shaking and vibrating 24/7 . The transmission shifts worst than my 2004 grandma car . It was shifting so hard you will think just got rear ended . Dealer said it was a normal functional new model high standard engineering from GM . Whit 42k miles before all this crazy prices I did trade it for a old trusted Tacoma . ( lesson learned ). I'm about 200% sure that tick was the manifold leak. Most hemi ticks go away after at operating temps. Mine goes away in about 20 seconds (for now), usually the tick coming from those trucks is the exhaust manifolds, not the lifters.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 and the tick is the exhaust leak on startup. Other than that it's fine. No issues. Had a few recalls done when I got it and it performs great. Gas mileage is good too.

I have a 2014 5.7 Ram 2500HD with 149K miles and 66RFE 6 speed. I have a tick, but it doesn't occur on initial cold startup at all, is not discernible under normal driving rpm ranges either, but after driving 30 miles or so when stopped in idle the tick is quite noticeable. This engine is the VVT, NG compatible version not the later MDS version. I have never seen any metal in the oil or filter and is usually still clean to the eye when changed. Always have to use premium Mobile1 or OEM oil filters to maintain oil pressure with this VVT system or my truck will shut down the VVT and throw codes. Usually by 5K the oil viscosity itself tells me it is time to change. I use Rotella Gas Truck Blended 10W30 or 5W20 whichever I can get my hands on. I have not yet looked at my manifolds bolts but with a rear exiting exhaust design I don't doubt I have broken rear studs given how the heat would naturally fluctuate across the manifold getting hotter and hotter at the rear exit. Just weird that I experience a different tick scenario.

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra with the 6.o liter Vortec Max engine and its been a great truck. It has 145000 miles on it and I had a performance tune put on it early on and disabled AFM and some other garbage that GM puts on these trucks. I run Amsoil oil and lubricants and the only think wrong with it so far is the paint - mainly the clearcoat faltering (and there is the typical rms leak that many GM vehicles experience but its minor). Only 1 recall for airbags that many vehicles had back then. Plus, the intake, exhaust and performance tune made this thing run so much better. I plan to keep it till it dies. I'd recommend one of these to anyone. I feel the later trucks with new technologies and even more garbage for trying to increase fuel economy are just having more recalls and issues.

In 2017, after watching your comparison reviews, we bought a 2015 Ford F150 with the 5 liter V8 and just 11,000 miles on it. Found it at CarMax. Because we were buying it primarily to tow our 25 ft. Airstream travel trailer, what impressed us was the engine braking on downhills. It now has 145,000 miles and, aside from replacing a water pump, we've done nothing but oil changes and the usual check ups. We love this truck and hope to get another 100,000 miles out of it.

The Super-Duty with a V10 is the best option for that truck. Sure, gas mileage is atrocious but the motors are built solid and good power. That truck had the last iteration of the 6.8L Triton V10 so it is the best version with the good benefits of reliability from the 3v 5.4 without the camphaser issue because the V10 isn’t VVT. The rest of the truck is great because that is when Ford really started to make the Super-Duty a nice truck. Love mine.

I did install a oil catch can and change oil sooner than 3000 miles and also changed trans and dif oil already, will drive it anywhere no worries, I think preventative maintenance is key for any vehicle.

The Diesel issue from 2005 through 2015 is the government mandated emissions controls with little to no lead time to develop the systems and the consumer became the test subject. The diesels of the last 5 or so years are far and away better because they've figured out the systems that typically take 5 to 7 years to develop a reliable solution. But the gov gave less than 2 year notice, and then again with less than 2 year notice. And it was across the board for on road diesels.

The 5.4L 3v gets a bad rap. Once you update the phasers and oil pump they'll go forever. I just rebuilt a 3v with 275k original miles(timing system was updated at 171k) and it had only minimal wear on the cylinders. All specs were within tolerance for a freshening up.

@@Overlandjon A reman is close to the cost of a rebuild, but they are all updated also. Fraser and Powertrain are both using DA phasers and Melling HV340 Melling oil pumps. The tick sound is mostly associated with the passenger side timing chain tensioner seal blowing on the newer style composite tensioner. It all boils down to maintaining the vehicle properly.

The Dealer wanted upwards of $5000 to fix the issue. I just recently had my 08 5.4 in for the phasers. I was lucky to have had a warranty to fall back on. I was told that it would have easily been a 4K repair and I still paid 1K out of pocket to do the "no brainer" repairs while it was tore apart. Now I have trans issue that when it sets all night ,when you first start it and put in gear it will not move. It's like the pump is weak , but the dealer is stumped... so they say!

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 liter engine and 138,000 miles. However, the previous owner installed a chip that deactivates the cylinder deactivation feature. I haven't had a problem. With the chip, I don't have to worry about uneven heating caused by one cylinder firing and the one next to it not firing. The engine always runs on all eight cylinders all the time.

I agree on all 3 plus 5.4lt 3 valve they come with their problems. In King ranch behind front seats are saddle bags, I remember when this came out as I use to read Truck Trend. Old F250, F350 that build in Brazil for Australian market had not best build quality but you still see 7.3lt V8 diesel around today, high mileage but above average price as new are over $100,000. I hope all these RAM buyers don’t have these old RAM 16 problems in future especially running of 5.7lt V8.

I had good luck with my 2014 Silverado 5.3L. I just traded it in a couple of months ago and I had no issues with the engine or transmission. The only major issue I had was with the AC condenser in which it cracked at the fitting. I never disabled the AFM and it worked perfectly. I did install a catch can to keep the intake cleaner as long as possible.

My 14' 5.7 has had the exhaust tick and the lifter tick, kinda sounds like exhaust on that one. The lifter tick fix is a bit expensive, but mine is good to go for a long time now. Issue causing the lifter tick is a few things, the cylinder deactivation is one, you can eliminate that by tapping the manual gear selection and setting at 8th gear once you are in drive and it will not engage cylinder deactivation. The other is going past 5k miles on oil changes, these engines are sensitive to oil degradation. Take care to do those 2 things and you'll be good.

My 2017 Ram 1500 Hemi runs smooth with no tick, however I use only 5W30 Syn with a quality filter. Mine only had 2 recalls, the tailgate and cruise control. I never had any failures but took it in for those two recalls anyway since it’s free. I have had 2RAM trucks in recent years. The first, a 2013 single cab with 8 foot bed and 3.6L V-6 4WD. It climbed s great without a load, but when i put a pop- up camper on it, it slowed dowe and mpg went to 15 from 25mpg. I bought it with 50K and when it was destroyed it had 105K. It only had one recall and ran great. It was totaled by a live- bottom gravel truck enjoyed parked. I then boight a 2009 RAM Laramie that is loaded. 5.7L Hemi, Brown leather interior, 4door and 6.5 f 22:12 t bed. In town it gets 16. On the road 21. 4WD could climb straight up if it got traction. It had 134K when i bought it. S 185K now and is getting a new AC. $5000 for parts and labor. The dash has to be removed. That has been the only really expensive issue. Other things are normal wear and tear to me. 1 minor recall. No oil Comstock. No exhaust leaks. Probably because the previous owner put new manifolds and exhaust system on. I am going to have to replace front hubs rotors and brakes.

I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado. I didn’t know about most of the issues until like 2 years of ownership. I did my research and found a couple things to add to the negatives. Radiator is prone to leak coolant from the side plastic tanks, lifters dropping or “failure”, A/C condenser is prone to cracking, the biggest issue is the transmission thermostat and it opens at 198 degrees which is too hot for the torque converter. The torque converter starts coming apart and the metal pieces gets thrown into the transmission which equal, done! The good thing is there are fixes and modifications to remedy or prolong life of the components.

Just bought my first new(to me) truck- a 2022 Ram 1500 Classic. My biggest worries were the Hemi tick, so I kept my mileage range low, but also since it was my first new buy I didn’t want a massive car payment, so my criteria was under $37k and 36k miles. Long story short, 11,590 miles crew cab 4wd with 3.92 limited slip (only two option I wanted) with the upgraded cluster and radio in a Tradesman. Only one I could find and all set and done it was just over $40k

The HEMI lifter tick is really something that correlates with idle time, not driving time. The HEMI lifter issues also have no correlation with MDS and is really an oiling issue. The camshaft and lifters do not get enough oil at idle, so the main prevention is to avoid excessive idling and avoid excessive cycling. That being said, my 2015 5.7 has 206k miles and I let that truck idle if I need to. The actual fix is to get the high volume hellcat oil pump, though if you change your oil every 5k miles with 5w30 and avoid excessive idling or cycling, you will be fine and won't have to deal with lifter issues.

Ram’s Hemi tick is a bit overblown. There was a bad run of lifters but in 2017 they changed suppliers and beefed up the roller bearings. Typically the worn down lifters and lobe happens on the non-MDS cylinders. Plus it’s most common on vehicles that idle for long periods of time when oil pressure is lowest and operating temps are highest. Also it’s best to do full synthetic oil changes 5-7,000 miles not 10k. It can run on 87 but best to use 89 octane to prevent engine knock.

Happens way too often and it's a huge repair. Many GM or FCA V8s with DOD/AFM/DFM system will have issues at some point in its operating life. It's a crap design and will absolutely negate any fuel savings.

I can’t speak for the 2014 but I have a 2015 Silverado 5.3 and have kept up with Service to the T and never had an issue with it. I have a custom tune, intake and exhaust, and oil catch can.

I have a 2016 Ram Big Horn and it's been great. I always turn the MDS off manually and get oil changes at 3000 instead of 7500 or 10000. The interior is still in good shape because I don't thrash on it. A lot of stuff comes down to owner behavior.

I'm glad I couldn't afford the '14 Silverado and ended up with the '12. The transmission kick at low speed or stopping is a bit much, but 9 years of ownership I have gotten use to it and use M mode when needed.

I've got a 2011 4.7 v8, it is a work truck (home remodel), and I bought it new from the dealership. It tows my work trailer, my car hauler , and it currently has 160k+ miles. The only problem i had was that the water pump went out on me around 100k miles. I've only had to do regular maintenance.

I had a 1998 Chevy Silverado with 273000 miles and never had any engine problems, best truck I ever owned. It just rusted out. Got rid of it in October 2023. 😊😊😊😊

Toyota does have good reliability but are weak and very ugly and that's why they don't sell. Now they are turbo so your reliability is going out the window. If ya need a truck buy a ford, dodge, Chevy. If you want to act like you have a truck buy a Toyota, nissan

@@marcharris4176 you are making accusations when it comes to turbos and reliability. There is not enough data to judge the new model. Also the new model competes against the non-HD models very well. I also don't need an HD truck, so the Tundra is perfect. I don't have to deal with the diesel hassle and getting 21mpg consistently. As always beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My view hands down Toyota Tundra looks the best, followed up by RAM.

I have had my hemi truck 2016. Since the day it was new, it has been nothing but reliable. Honest, hard-working truck. Never let me down and done everything. I've asked it to do it now. Has over 350000 miles on it. And still running strong with never, ever being rebuilt. I'm not sure where you're coming from my list. But maybe I got lucky and got a good one. But my truck has no issues, none 0. I'll take it over a ford Chevy any day of the week.

One other Hemi issue is that they like to break off exhaust manifold studs. It produces a kinda soft clicking that often goes away when the engine warms up. Mine broke off two. I could never countenance the idea of paying maybe $30K for a 7 year old beat down pickup with 110K miles on it.

Heard lots of bad things in the 14 Silverado. I had one new off the lot. 240,000 miles other than multiple ac issues that were fixed after replacing with after market parts, I had zero issues maybe I just got lucky🤷‍♂️

I'm going to say you take care of your stuff, new off the lot means you know what maintenance was done and no one abused it like you did, I worked at a dealership and boy about 70% of the silverados 14-18 that would come in would get sent to auction.

The DEF and DPF are major issue with diesel trucks. Requires alot of maintenance that most ppl don't stay on top till its too late

@@watchmanexpert There is no extra maintenance. If your DEF is not deleted yet, you just have to add it in once in like 6-8K miles. If you change engine oil yourself it cost just like $60. Intervals are actually longer then gas engines.

@@marcelo403polo2That’s the problem. HO Diesel option on the new super duty is $12,500 plus tax and interest, then you have to spend $5000 more to delete it and void your factory warranty. I just got a new 7.3 Godzilla because I didn’t want to deal with the cost, weight, and complexity of a diesel. Just looking under the hood of a modern diesel will give you a headache.

@@marcelo403polo2If you’re referencing the camshaft delamination, it affects 1-2% of engines from 2020 and 2021. It’s a simple, old school engine with few parts and no turbos. There hasn’t been an engine this simple in a heavy duty truck in decades. I have a crew cab long bed f250 4x4 with 4.30 gears, 35x12.50 mud tires and a 48 gallon gas tank. I average 14mpg. Towing my enclosed trailer with toys in it I get 10mpg. That’s pretty good for a 7,500 pound truck. Good luck with your lml. I just personally have no need for a diesel and don’t want to deal with all the emissions stuff.

I had a 2014 ram 1500 sport if it sits for a month yeah I kind of did do a little bit of ticing but if it doesn’t sit too long, it doesn’t do the ticking. It was a good truck.
