After 40+ years of running the best thing I’ve learned is the dynamic warmup and strength training. Thanks Jason!

Hey Jason! Thanks for this video! I went through a very difficult, stressful week at work and my diet was really off (I skipped lunch every day). No wonder yesterday's long run went so badly, I could hardly move after km 8, so I had to stop after 10K. I was very disappointed but what did I expect?! I should be grateful for reaching 10, really. We are machines that need a few things to work. We have to provide our bodies the right foundation of diet, sleep, less time of bad body posture (sitting) and THEN make our big plans for Long runs, speedwork, what have you. I find that if I mess one of these things, my runs don't go very well. Thanks for reminding us the 101 here. It came at a very good time for me.

I’m doing everything you say, everything right and then some BUT my sleep is and has always been my issue, probably my ADHD. Tried lots to solve but it either knocks me out and leaves me feeling awful for days or does not work. Great content 🎉

Nice to see *precovery* coming first. Your thumbnail pic was a bit worrying. Good to see you recovered fast and look good again on video :-)

Thanks a lot, Jason - I now have a complete answer to what I must have been going through when I started running 6 years ago. Trying to get back on track now, after health issues and a long pause, so advice well received 🙏🏼 Determined to do it right the second time over 😊

Great video! I've found as a road runner turned ultra runner (lower speed/ intensity), my injuries are way down, which is surprising... but i definitely need more recovery time/ techniques after a 50k than a 5k. I've suddenly started seeing the term "super compensation" being thrown around. Could you do a video on that?
@JasonFitzgerald
@JasonFitzgerald Ай бұрын
It's just "adaptation" (you do a long run, get tired, and then your body "super compensates" [adapts] so that you're less tired the next time you run long)

How do you build back your fitness after getting sick? I am a high school runner and I’ve been sick on and off for the past 3 weeks. I’ve only really been able to get a couple easy runs in on days that I’ve felt good, but it only totals to about 56 miles in the past 3 weeks, whereas my weekly mileage prior to getting sick was about 55 mpw. My district meet is next week and I should make it past that whether I’m sick or not, and I’m also not too concerned about making it past my regional meet the week after, but I need to have my fitness back for states.

Glad you're feeling better! Just look at it as a long taper. If you try to hammer those missed workouts, you'll show up at the start line exhausted, sick, or injured. Take the week before your meet to ease back into your running. You haven't lost much fitness, especially since you got in almost 60 miles anyway! By the time your big meet comes, you'll be fighting fit again. If you push it, you might perform terribly at states. Best wishes!

Cross train whenever possible. You lose a lot of fitness in 3 weeks... especially of inactivity.

Thanks for another video with a lot of interesting information, but I do have a question. In your video you talk about fueling a training and not be in a calorie deficit before a run. I'm doing my first marathon in April, but currently I'm to heavy and need to lose some weight. How can I be in a deficit and still fuel my runs?
@General1Cal
@General1Cal Ай бұрын
I am in the same category, signed up for a half, but I have tons of extra fat muscle so literally don't need to fuel my run as well I need is spaghetti dinner and regular breakfast, and maybe a small 3musketeers at the half way point, well hydrated at the beginning but not too much to pee every 6 miles but I have a half way point squirt bottle I basically inject 20oz into me in less than 30!secs.
@JasonFitzgerald
@JasonFitzgerald Ай бұрын
Now we're talking about adequate fueling + weight loss, which is difficult because you can't do both! It's best to choose which you'd like to focus on.
This progression mistake can cost you YEARS
