This actually happened to me when I was younger and I had no symptoms at all and then one morning I woke up and I couldn't walk our stand up and I was rushed to the hospital and I had strep throats and it spread to my legs and the doctors put me on the highest antibiotics at the time and I was lucky enough to not go through what this guy had to go through and my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family

iheart cactus my sis just got diagnosed with it today and the first test came back neg. Fortunately, the doctor was knowledgeable enough to run it twice. She said that it happens a lot with strep because they have to swab it a certain way n ppl get false negatives very often because they can't see the bacteria. 😳

A throat swab for strep won't tell you much because it naturally colonizes the pharynx. Strep throat is usually diagnosed based on symptoms. With symptoms as severe as he's describing the doctors did him dirty by not checking blood cultures.

A close friend of mine died from strep throat at 16. She was sick for about a week and had been taking medication from her doctor for the strep. I believe the strep got to her heart somehow. She died of a heart attack. Its so rare, but so so sad when it does happen. Its just so unexpected. A very very healthy 16 year old girl suddenly dying after having what seemed like a cold for just a week... Its crazy.

This is a bit difficult to explain. The infection did not do that to his hands and feet. What happened is the bacteria got into his bloodstream and he became septic. So yes the infection did go everywhere in his body. What caused that to happen to his hands and feet though is from shock. Shock is when the body can't maintain blood pressure anymore, this will cause your organs to die. They use medications to increase the blood pressure. This causes the blood vessels to squeeze down on the blood. This happens mostly in the extremities and skin, this causes those areas to die from blood loss. Lots of times this happens to elderly people from atherosclerosis in their arms and legs, in cases like that often the hand or foot doesn't completely die and turn black, but there is so little blood flow that the bacteria infection in the hands and feet can't get enough blood flow to get the antibiotics and white blood cells to the area to fight off the infection.

What a beautiful family ! When I was a kid I became horribly ill with scarlet fever after having strep that was untreated. It caused a blood infection and had me unable to move and unable to eat or drink without being sick. We didn't even know I had strep until I started to get a red bruised kind of rash all over my body and blood pockets under my eyes and was taken to the doctor. Crazy stuff. No one deserves this - that man is way way stronger than I am. The sad part, the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes, which causes strept throat, has been the cause of around 1/3 of all flesh eating bacteria cases. So this man had this forsaken bacteria in his throat causing strept, and then it got into his blood stream and attacked other parts of his body with no mercy. God please bless this man and his family !

the first time I had strep throat I was in a residential for girls. They refused to treat me so after a week with strep throat. I flipped out and threatened to sue them and that's when I gave me a throat culture and found out I had strep throat

The other day my sister and I was talking about this because back where my parents lived, they discriminate these people that started losing hands and feet. They were separated from everybody into a small town because at that time (1957) they thought it could be contiguous. They had no technology or anything. Wow. What an loving caring wife. He's a lucky man! I couldn't even imagine losing all my limbs from that. I had strep throat for nine months and somehow I lived nor did I lose any limbs. Still, it was a total nightmare. By the end of it they had to remove my tonsils because they had turned to mush because of the infection being there for so long. I missed so much of high school because of it, but at least I'm still here today.
