Some great ideas in here. I will definitely be looking some of these up. I made an oven glove recently with heat-resistant batting and it just wasn't protective enough, so double check the effectiveness of the batting before you sew it up. Also if you are making anything heat/microwave related, as well as using natural fabrics, it is very important to use real cotton thread as polyester thread will melt! I am currently making the 'Just Slip It' cowl for gifts (on Ravelry) which is a very quick knit and such fun to make.
@StephSewn12 күн бұрын
This is a great point! I agree that doubling up the batting really helps make it safer

Delighted to know there's another chaotic gift knitter out there. I'm not actually doing it this year. I've been gift knitting this autumn but without Christmas in mind per se. Ironically I won't be seeing the recipients until Christmas so in a roundabout way, I've nailed it. 😅

This was a great video! I am also someone who has made huge plans for Christmas making only to end up manically trying to finish before the big day. It's really not fun. I'm going to TRY to just focus on easy, small things this year. Someday, I would love to make my adult kids and my husband some of the Quilted Slippers from Sew DIY. I've made them all sweatshirts and those seem to get a lot of use. Happy sewing and thank you for the video!

Hi. Planning a couple sweatshirts for my hubby, a small travel cube for a world-traveling friend, a book/project sleeve for an artist friend, and a small makeup pouch with various, small items inside for another friend. I think all are doable with present time frame. I try to time my making according to when I may see all these people in person between now and holidays. I try not to stress whether gift is given before or after Christmas. KZbin videos like this and “A Gift to November” help me get in timely making mindset for holidays. Thanks for inspiration.

Yay for learning how to crochet! FWIW, if you are left handed, please do yourself a favor and learn left handed crochet. I struggled mightily, with much humility, (ima skilled needlewoman, as r u, but to be told you cannot do something is humbling). Fortunately I can and did learn, but I am a leftie. Years later, I still cannot crochet right handed. Eat, even write my name, but not crochet. 🧶 and yes, a few years ago I cut my list so far only husband is on the list. Grandkids need money right now anyway. 😂. Thanks for the reminder about the rope bowls. I like them.
@StephSewn10 күн бұрын
Sadly I am right handed, so I have no excuse!! I have seen the impact of how different hand positions affect my knitting though, so this is a great reminder to play around with crochet too
