I have been organizing my closet according to the rainbow for years now. The other day my husband thought he was being helpful by putting my laundry away. I almost hyperventilated when I saw the eyesores in the closet! I wouldn’t dare organize his or my three teenagers’ things - futility at its best - but my closet is my safe haven!!

I do too! And I also organize first within type/sleeve length for shirts and then pants, dresses, skirts, then within each of those the ROYGBIV. The rest of the house is a disaster by my standards but my small closet is my oasis to look at :)

My spouse will randomly move a shirt in my side of the closet (like putting a black shirt in with the reds) just to mess with me.😬😅 Btw, mine is organized by type of item (shirts, pants, dresses, etc), then by color, then length of sleeve, then thickness of material, & then by how much/how little screen printing, etc., is on it.

Never, never, never color code LEGO blocks by color. Always by size. It's far easier to find blue in a sea of yellow than it is to find a 1x2 in a sea of 2x4s. Will anyone please think of the children?!?! :P

As a avid Lego fan I can actually say, that this is no joke. You do need to sort them by size not color. Its a nightmare to find what you are looking for size-wise.

🤣😂🤣😂 Telling me to relax has the opposite effect!!! You tell someone to relax you’ve just told them the thing the are the most passionate about in that moment is trivial. You’ve also just told them that their concerns are unimportant to you and that they are unimportant to you. You have also illustrated that you are able to speak with both feet shoved firmly down you throat. A lot can be communicated in the two words, “Just relax” and”Calm down” or whatever variation that special person in your life likes to use.🤣😂🤣🤨

I'm going stir crazy wanting to organize everywhere in my home right now. I want to decorate, but I have to clean areas and organize before I can. Lol Oh and my daughter color codes her clothes in her closet as well and she even separates long sleeve shirts from short sleeve shirts too. I got you Kim! :) Edit: Btw, I love that my daughter is so organized with her clothes. She is only 14 and loves her clothes and takes very good care of them. Having her clothes organized also helps her when deciding what she wants to wear the next day (yes, she even plans ahead on what she is going to wear). Of course this also helps her in getting ready for school the next morning without the drama of rushing to figure it all out. If you have a teenage daughter, then you know what I'm talking about. Lol Which means this Mom can relax and know that our mornings won't be as hectic when getting ready for school.

Unfortunately I lost my husband in early July to this horrible Covid and watching your videos has helped get me out of my head on those really hard dark days. Ha, we could do dueling edits where I say "condiments ONLY go in the shelves on the door!" My friend puts hers on the top shelving as you are doing, and it drives me NUTS! Only containers of milk, juices, creamer etc. shall go on the top shelf! (Where is your milk and waters and juices by the way? You have a second fridge for such?)

Yes, I've organized my closet this same way for years and by type. Drawers are folded Kon Mari method and shoes and jewelry are rainbow organized as well. People think I'm crazy, but honestly, it's easy for me to maintain and I save so much time each day finding what I need because it's all accessible. So for 2020, I upgraded all my hangers to nice wooden ones. My closet looks beautiful!

Okay: I still love the Holderness Vlogs and parodies, I am an organizing junkie, I like to color code and love rainbows, we buy slant-sided, see-through plastic bins to store most stuff because nice square cardboard boxes pick up too much moisture in the dampness/ humidity, BUT I put my foot down on needing to buy something besides a milk crate and going fancy with storage containers in the garage, attic, and refrigerator. (Although the drawers it came with are quite appreciated, and we have added a long narrow tray for small things on the bottom and top shelves.) Even the sewing room - yes, room - has clear drawers for the most part, under the sewing table and floor to ceiling on one wall. Big bins of fabric and holiday decor are labelled and form the mattress foundation in the guest room, and they happen to be mostly the same color, but they do not match the room decor; they are covered by the draped sides of the bedspread. Because they are used less often, it works to have them below the bed, easy to slide out when needed, nothing fancy. I'm with Penn on this one. Bought the old milk crates from the dairy or were given them by businesses going out of business. Well, we did divide them by colors: sort of his and hers, auto and garden, toys and tools, etc. However, they are easy to grab, contents are visible, can tolerate being banged around, don't care if they get a little dirty, and last longer than either cardboard or bins. BTW, I get it: it feels like there is so little we can control right now that organizing our spaces, lives, activities et al can be very important. Ooops - and there's the oven buzzer, controlling me, BUT - I get to control the spices, salt, herbs, tenderness and source of my oven-baked chicken. Yum. Basted w/olive oil, back in for 20 more minutes. Thank you, Holderness family, for great entertainment and info.

I changed out ALL the hangars in ALL my closets to matching, ultra thin, suede hangars. Now all the clothing is at even heights and on the same color hangars. It looks fabulous!! Not so cluttered. And this little exercise helped me to get rid of tons of clothes too!

Here's where I am - I'm DESPERATE to declutter and organize, and worked from home for 5 months until now so I had "all this time" to do that, right -;yet I've still been stressing over my job and all the work, so I've been able to do really very little around the house. Scarves: Hang a rack from over-door hooks ( a side from a cot or a shelf from a drying rack work well) then hang your scarves over the rungs so only a couple of inches of each scarf shows in colour coded rainbow rows. The ends are trapped neatly between the rack & the door, it takes up no floor or closet space, & looks like a work of art. Top it with your fairy wings and a feather boa to cover the hooks ( I know you have some!) & ta da! I did this years ago & it still gives me joy every time I look at my collection of over 300 wraps, scarves and belts. ~sigh~

I actually stress clean/organize too. I sometimes fury clean but in that case I FORGET WHERE I PUT THINGS and that is because I trash a lot of things when I am angry...trashing things when I am mad actually makes me feel better...I might be alone in this I don't know...I just feel like having less clutter makes me feel better. I have looked at buying containers but I can't justify the cost when I can re-use a container that something else came in. Rainbow organizing only lasts for a few days sadly. Happy relationships are more important than a rainbow fridge. My closet can be as rainbow as I want though.😉

I felt this way, too. But I started super small... i organized our "electronics" box (chargers, cables, phones). It made me feel so good, that I did the next super small thing ... the silverware drawer... then... I cleaned off the FRONT doors of the fridge (not the inside, just took the photos/drawings off the doors)... thats it. But I love the feeling I get now, when I look at those areas, and I'm starting to tackle more.

Oh my God Kim you are my soulmate but you're spending way too much at the container store. Although there is no replacement for those lock top kitchen containers Dollarama and dollar tree have a lot of the same products as the container store at a fraction of the cost. I'm all about controlling my anxiety through organization. My husband commented on my sheer joy once I finish the basement yesterday. I feel you girl 2020 is almost over.

I've done this in my pantry and put pretty fridge paper in my fridge to catch spills. It does look so much better. Use container store food storage and dollar 🌳 baskets. I feel peaceful.

The funny part of this is I'm doing my pantry right now. I have saved so many 20% off coupons at Bed Bath and Beyond it sure has helped but YES VERY EXPENSIVE!!! My husband has no clue how much this is costing. Lol 😁 I love that show btw. You said Rainbow order and I knew exactly who you were talking about. Scarf knots are pretty though... 🌈🧣

What do we do to relax? My husband and I have a ritual of going out into our backyard, sit on our porch swing and watch the sunset together. It gives us time to re-connect and reflect on the day and get away from the news and all the doom and gloom. We focus on ourselves, nature and we thank God for the beauty of the sunset and for giving us another day of life.

Hysterically funny. I have too many "organizational moments," but I still like know how much and where certain things are. I try to find a 'resting place' for everything so that I know where it is when I need it. (It's a nice sentiment, but it rarely works.) I like to spend my money on storage containers (the larger, the better) so that I can stack up my belongings. Classic Holderness reality-based video.
