Beyond the regular wood tutorial given pre-COVID, building stretchers and stretching canvas will occur in the paint classroom. We’ll use a 1”x3”x96” whiteboard plank and a 1/2”x1/2”x96” quarter round to make your frame. Attach the two pieces with glue, clamp down and let dry for three hours. Measure and use the manual mitre saw box to cut your 45-degree angles. Attach the thin plywood triangles with glue and 1/2” staples to make your frame corners. Ideally, let dry, too. Measure out enough canvas, about another 6” on each side beyond the dimensions of your wooden stretcher. Stretch and staple rotating each couple staples, leaving around a couple inches in between each one. Fold your canvas corners and then add at least three coats of gesso. Get painting!
