This style of animation is just dead in this era. It's a shame, this is so alive. Every character, action, and prop is full of life!

Yeah, everything has to be done as a puppet, and hand drawn frame by frame animation is kinda dead. Personally I miss it, but dealing with outsourcing and other studios drawing on model is a nightmare. So when you do cookie cutter for kids mainstream animation, this type of stuff is dead unfortunately.

I find it so interesting how clear it is that this is was the prototype of Courage. It has so many of the things that would become staples of that show; the toothy, tired looking dog, the kind, if a bit oblivious lady that owns him, and the douchey bald guy that bullies the dog. Not to mention all of the exaggerated expressions n stuff. This is a great cartoon all in all!

I can't help but notice how some of Raisin's and Malcolm's character traits carried over to Eustace and Muriel respectively in the Courage the Cowardly Dog show; Specifically how Malcolm (Eustace) verbally abuses Hamilton (Courage) incessantly and how Raisin (Muriel) seems generally staid and stands up for Hamilton in the face of Malcolm. Hell, even Malcolm almost gets his comeuppance similar to how Eustace frequently bit it at the end of episodes.

I would haves lived this as a long running series, but I can see why execs at the time would have a hard time buying it- Malcolm in an S&M outfit, an abused dog, the art that visually attacks you. I remember watching this back in the day. Liquid TV churned out a lot of talent that would take root and grow elsewhere. I think it would be a shame that this short doesn't get expanded into its own series someday, especially with the context of social media and current cultural events. Raisin having her own show would be fertile ground for so many storylines!
@okamijubei3 жыл бұрын
Actually... That show kinda does. It evolved in a couple of years later which went to a What A Cartoon show. Which it turns to Chicken From Outer Space and it leads to Courage the Cowardly Dog.
@williamsanders24393 жыл бұрын
@@okamijubei definitely see the similarities between Hamilton and Courage (and come to think of it, between Malcolm and Eustace). Still, would love to see other aspects of it get explored...sibling rivalry, heckle culture, just to name a few. It could be a great web comic for sure.
