wow, i have never seen this approach before. it is such a nice, clean edging on the ribbing. thank you for sharing! i'll try binding off this way on my next ribbed project.

Can you show how to do this in a round??? I am making leg warmers and would like to know how to use this bind off in the round.....

Thank you for the demo! I was looking for a new way to do bind off for my toe-up socks. I am going to try this one. I like the final finished look. It doesn't look bulky or make the top look flared out like others. I will let you know how mine looks when I'm finished.

@lori1551 Yes you can. Start with 2 knit stitches, ssk and swing the needle round to place stitch on left needle, p2tog, place stitch on left needle, p2tog and swing needle round to place stitch on left needle and repeat with ssk. You cast off in rib and only swing the needle between each pair of stitches as you switch from knit to purl as you cast off. The video shows the stitch mount for combination knitting which is my normal style, if you knit standard follow the above and it should work

@lori1551 You can play around with the tension with this cast off which might help make it firmer - also have you looked at the sewn cast offs like Elizabeth Zimmerman's sewn bind off or a sewn tubular/invisible bind off which I use a lot for the tops of fingerless mittens. This bind off can be a bit tricky in the round using DPNs, its easier to transfer stitches to a circular needle and knit from that using a separate needle (rather than using both ends of the circular) - hope that makes sense.

@ingiek When you swing the needle clockwise the needle is going away from you and under the working yarn and back towards you before you place the stitch on the needle from the front. When you swing it anticlockwise you swing the needle towards you under the working yarn and round the back before placing the stitch on the needle from the back - hope that makes sense. I will try do a version for 2x2 rib in the near future.

@Sewmakeone Hi, I'll try and do a video for the 2x2 ribbing soon. This cast on may be a bit confusing because in the video I knit combined and wrap the yarn anticlockwise on the knits and clockwise on the purls which affects the stitch mount but means this cast-off works great for combination knitters but needs to be adjusted slightly for standard knitters to get the same effect. There are lots of different cast-offs - try knittinghelpdotcom which has videos.

I use that all the time

@melinadaisy I wrap the yarn anticlockwise on knits and clockwise on purls (combination knitting) which affects the mount of the knit stitch so the forward leg is at the back so doesn't twist when knitted through back loop. If you knit standard so knits and purls are wrapped anticlockwise, do a ssk (to remount the 2nd knit stitch) and then swing round and do the p2tog as in the video. I'll change the title to say its for combination knitters may do a standard version.
