I would love to have a copy of your PowerPoint and make notes on the pages to help me organize all of my Acadian ancestors. You really put a lot of work into this!

I only recently learned I am of Acadian decent and am very interested to learn more about my ancestors on my father's side. My family's names were Melanson and Morrow. Although they were from Nova Scotia they resided in Massachusetts

Excellent job of recounting the history of the Acadians. There were a few small errors but overall probably the best video about the Acadians I have seen on KZbin. Couple of small errors: - Acadians were not the first Europeans to have a permanent settlement in North America (if only referencing what is today the lands bounded by the USA and Canada). That honor goes to the Spanish at Saint Augustine in Florida which was settled in 1565. - The fort (Fort Anne) at Annapolis Royal (under the French known as Port Royal), did not have a 1000 soldiers. Even though it was the British capital of Nova Scotia until 1749 it had been neglected by the British and under manned. In 1749 Halifax was settled and became the capital was well as naval base and military instillation. Its military compliment would have been a thousand an more depending on the circumstances of the time (war). The Acadians certainly profited from selling services and goods to the settlements at Annapolis Royal and Halifax. - Battle of Grand Pré: there is no indication of how many Acadians fought at Grand Pré. It was known that they did fight alongside the Canadian troops and Mi'kmaq warriors. Charles Morris is one of the English officers who observed them. There were many more times when the Acadians provided aid, assistance, and manpower to the French cause over the years between 1713 and 1755. Like any people, the Acadians were a complex group. There were those who supported the French, those who supported the English and the many who just wanted to be left alone. - Being Catholic was not a particularly big issue to the British. The New Englanders were more heavily anti-Catholic. Under the Treaty of Utrecht the Acadians Catholicism was protected. Remember in Britain at the time there were still nobles who were Catholic. Also the old anti-Catholic laws were also beginning to be lifted. -Acadian governance system: Although the origins of the Acadian Deputy system predates the period of British rule it was a system that was formalized and institutionalized by the British at Annapolis Royal. The Military leaders at Fort Anne also had to act as a civil government and the Acadian Deputy system assisted in the overall governance of the territory. There had to be a way for the British and Acadians to communicate back and forth and the Deputy system provided for this need.

The Acadians were actually French with a smattering of other nationalities thrown in for good measure.
