That was a crazy episode, Fran had me totally cracking up when she belly flopped the spear throw. It was actually quite an athletic attempt to spear a fish, just never seen it done like that b4 and it was unexpected as well. I find myself laughing during moments of your episodes, love your channel. Fran is a sweetheart and I think you two make a helluva duo. Thanks for all your efforts in making these videos.

Unless you have had the experience, living off the land or sea isn’t always as bountiful as might sometimes be depicted. It is often a real struggle to not only find food but fight losing battles with insects, find dry wood, and keep from self injury. In reality, what you two do is so hard or impossible to just about everyone else, and you do it with style and good vibes! And then manage to set up the most amazing shots and action sequences!

There was a movie, several years ago, in the 70's or 80's if I remember correctly, starring Oliver Reed based upon a couples true life experiences of trying to live for a year on a pacific island. It was called Castaway if I remember correctly; not the Tom Hanks movie. I also read the book. That movie and the book show how difficult it really and truly is. I had had the same dream for many year; having lived in Scotland you could understand why. The dream died after watching that movie when the reality stepped in. No disrespect to Strick and Fran, I wonder how it would be if you were to spend three to six months on a deserted island?

Great show. Glad to find this. Make a passive fish trap. A V made of sticks in the sand that leads fish into a corral that they can’t reverse out of. The sting rays are easy food. Their wings are like scallops also. Cut them into little cubes and fry.

What I learned from the Bahamians 40-50 years ago with conch: whether you are making conch seviche or conch fritters, first you gotta beat the "Bejesus" outta the meat to soften the it up ! They used to use a glass coke bottle back in the day. But if you do it right, its wonderful (and not so chewy) Lol !

Spear fishing: it clearly works, as people have been doing it this way for centuries. However, the major problem is that the fish see the arm moving quickly towards them before the spear is even released, they spook and dash off - fish are fast, so nine times out of ten 9at least!) they will escape. I would consider either a bow (way faster, without the obvious throw of the arm) or, if you can find a net washed up, just string a net across the inlet, so that the fish are caught in it as the tide goes out. Or, as I have seen done, string the net from your hut out into the bay, float it with bottles tied to the top and catch fish as they shoal past the net. The sharks might present a problem with this approach, however.

Next evolution of your fishing technique will be Fran simply tackling the fish to cook up. As always thank you for sharing your adventures in such beautiful places. Jack, your fish cleaning skills are really good you do a nice job getting good cuts with just a bush knife. Fran, your new bikini is very nice with the shells for accents!
