Many of these rules are general rules. Most tv show characters have a set wardrobe, many small cast shows don’t survive if you main characters leave, many shows want characters the same so usually don’t want cast growing hair or if they have facial hair they want them to maintain it don’t want the actor to shave it completely off. Several shows with science jargon characters have to learn something e.g. in Stargate SG1 Amanda tapping learned a whole lot of stuff for her roll as she had a lot of science jargon to spout. The main characters/leads always get more, actors have to promote their shows and sometimes are only allowed to say positive things about it. Many actors do not actually eat the food because A. If they have to re-take it needs to be done again EXACTLY, B. If there is a re-take then they would have to replace the food again, C. Food isn’t always real, D. If there are multiple re-takes actors don’t want to have to keep shuffling down so much food, E. The food although it looks good may not always be the most appetising especially if cold.

Rule or no rules this show never ceases to amaze me. One downside was the laugh track. Regardless of whether there was a live audience or not it still sounded like a laugh track that was often overused. After a while, I was mostly able to block the laugh track out of my head. One particular scene where it annoyed me was when Howard knocked on Penny's door to ask if he could come in to apologize to Bernie after they had a pre-marital falling out. The scene was going very well. It was a serious moment, but the laugh track came in a bit too soon. With a nearly teary face, Penny said: That was the most beautiful thing I ever heard. Then I heard a brief chuckle. Bad move there. The main laugh of course did follow when Penny finished what she had to say.

Did they ever explain the mystery of why Penny/Kelly was allowed to go bald (in show, or real world)? If I had been watching, just for her, I would have stopped.
@profonde34608 ай бұрын
@@fablanta When was Penny ever bald? If you meant the Short Hair that Kaley had from the start of a season, till about half way through that season, it was because Kaley filmed a movie during the 5 months break between the two seasons' filming. The scriptwriters then wrote it into the show. Penny gets a new job, that required a business look and to wear a suit. So the business look matched the short hair. (Even though, TBBT writers/producers hadn't planned it, originally. Just wrote it in, like how they wrote story line for Penny to work behind the bar, as Kaley broke her leg) In another story line (that has a reference to Penny's short hair) Sheldon isn't coping with several changes, so goes off traveling by himself, but gets into an awkward & embarrassing situation (& it's a 2 episodes story). Leonard goes to "rescue" him and convinces him to come back. Sheldon realises that things do change. But, when he walks into their apartment, & sees Penny with short hair, Sheldon says "NO!" (or something like that) & walks out of the apartment. That's just 2 examples of others how it was written in. There have been many actors that have filmed a movie, or have performed in a stage play or stage show, between TV Seasons' filming. Very often they change their appearance for a role. Things don't grow back that fast. The producers could've easily given Kaley hair extensions, or done other things for her to have non-real long hair, but they decided not to. Also, there's a line in one episode that was targeted directly at people like you. Written before Penny (character) was first seen with short hair. The (joke) line was after Penny's hair grew back, somewhat. They knew some people (was rather a lot) would complain about Penny's Hair. Anytime an established TV character changes their appearance, or a celebrity changes a look they've had for a long time, some people carry on like it's most important thing in the world; but in a negative way. Don't remember exact lines, but it was one of the reoccurring non-regular characters (one of Raj's girlfriends i think) that makes an appearance when Penny's hair has grown, & she says "you grew your hair again". * Penny replies, "yeh i got tired of people saying Why'd you cut your hair" * [*Not exact lines, i'm paraphrasing]. It was definitely a "prediction line", to the response/negativity they knew that would happen, re the short hair

@profonde34608 ай бұрын
@@fablanta Come on, don't tell me you believe what is actually said in this video, when there's so many errors in it? " 'no radical changes in your appearance' clause in their contracts " is only what is said here. As there's so many things untrue in this video, I wouldn't even waste time to check if even true, re the contracts. [I've worked a bit in TV production, so seen heaps that can be done]. Considering the amount of costume, tech, & other stuff done, to create an appearance, for many things, there are work arounds. Kaley broke here leg, Melissa was pregnant (to fully) during a season (& it wasn't when Bernadette was pregnant), & while those are a different kind (& unavoidable) change in appearances they worked out ways around them, and viewers never knew, until well after, or years after, the season aired.

Penny went from constantly wearing “girlie” dresses & outfits during the beginning of the series to attract Leonard & the guys she barely knew across the hall @ the time. As well as attracting attention from the live studio audiences & those watching it on tv every Thursday night. Then her wardrobe, makeup & hair (her haircut was fire btw) became less girlie & more demure when she was dating Leonard for the 1st time. Then the 2nd time around which lead to them eventually getting married. All bc there was no need for her to dress more “provocative” & “girlie” anymore now that she had a BF who became her Fiancé & eventually her Husband. She also went from being a waitress @ “The Cheesecake Factory” to a pharmaceutical rep. Cutting her hair prior to her interview for the job. Then going from that ugly yellow shirt & mini skirt to business casual/less tight & form fitting outfits like suits, knee length skirts, etc…

I don't know why actors on sitcoms can get paid such astronomical sums of money. Sitcoms (and movies, as well) are a collaborative effort, which includes directing, producing, set design, sound effects, costuming, and most especially, writing. And more. Actors are the public face of a show's success, and therefore the most connected to their audience. High viewership translates into high advertising revenues, meaning profitability. I guess I just answered my own question.

Retitled: "Standard and predictable rules The Big Bang Theory cast had to follow". Apart from not talking about their romantic lives (off set), the rest were bulk standard. Billing and titling has been fought over in the industry for almost a century (just look at the old stars that used to get 'pre-title' credit, it was a huge thing). Tiered ranking among long running shows is very common. As for food, fairly standard not eating the food. Apart from being cold, there is continuity, and also the issue of food that may be visible on teeth during the scene, and also if they have other lines coming up. Fairly standard stuff. Costume choices are not left to the actor, but to the wardrobe department (actor may have some input). It is character styling, and can change if there is a major change in the character (eg Penny's wardrobe and hair did change). Sometimes wardrobe will use a variation to illustrate a significant moment, even colour to reinforce the scene's mood. But a standard 'uniform' for a character is actually for the audience, not the actor, so that the audience does not get distracted. This channel does not seem to know that much about film & TV production.

To say that this was one of the best rated shows of all time is a very weak statement. It barely made the top 100 at number 90. Considering a lot of the plot lines were stolen from Friends, who were 38/100, the inconsistent writing, espesically in character back stories, I"m surprised it made it to 90. My biggest pet peeve about this show, Penny never had a last name until she married Lenard.
