I prefer the fake ones, if the original wants to sell, put the prices down.

The fake bikes have gotten a lot better since then. I see some here in asia. They are 70% the quality with only 25% the price. I don't buy fakes but understand why people do.

I was given my 1999 Brompton and it works well. I wanted a Strida for fun, especially since in London Bromptons are the target of gangs of muggers. I got a strda copy from eBay £170 but have had problems with spokes breaking and the seatpost pin shearing off. Seeing photos I put on the Strida Facebook group Mark Sanders mentioned that it was a copy. A week later I got a real mk.3 Strida from eBay, £120, cheaper than the copy😊. Later I got a mk.2 Strida from Facebook marketplace even cheaper, £65😋. Lastly I got two Stridas, a mk.1 and an LT for £250. The LT is mint condition and rides beautifully. The mk.3 2005 and mk.2 1999 are in very good condition and have only had light use. The mk.1 is from 1988 and is rideable but needs attention.

The Brompton guy sounds like Phil Schiller of Apple with the "paying attention to detail" part.

Once the nuts and screws are tightened properly on these fakes, there're just as good as the genuine ones.

First they give licenses for another factories and move production to Asia for dramatically increase income, because British production overpriced for most countries and expensive product not easy to sale. And after factories outside make some extra income with copies. They start to cry and create vids like this one :) So why not keep production on the island and price reasonable for every potential customer? That's the key to success.

I purchased a copy Strida before I understood that there were counterfeits being sold. My apologies for having done so Mark. I have however, replaced quite a few of the counterfeit's failed parts with genuine STRIDA replacement (upgraded) parts.

.. You commented about buying Strida…. Most Strida mechanisms and parts are now in public domain . I agree if they called the bike Strida or STRDA that could be confusing, but did they?? ""The U.S. version of this patent was filed in 1986[16] and expired in 2006,[17] which means only the mechanism used in Strida 1 and 2 of the product is now in the public domain. WIKIPEDIA"""

I wonder what the ratio of retail cost to cost of materials is for the Strida? It’s a pretty awesome concept, and the design is genius, but is it worth $800 USD, especially when it’s mass produced by Ming Cycle in China? I’d love to have one, but I like to eat and stuff too. Just sayin’. I’m

Now that i've watched this video i decided to go for a fake brompton. Thank you
@MarmiteCrumpets4 жыл бұрын
I think Moulton bicycles are able to avoid this fakery given the high cost of producing the spaceframes, with so many braze points, the materials, and degree of skill needed. Also patents, by which plagiarism would be clearly be proven, not that this would trouble China. Nevertheless, with high end Moultons now up to almost £20k, the cheats are certain to be looking at this market.

Gideon Tomulac not a defender of capitalism, but these "innovators" tend to overcharge, it's the reason why the copycats have a market. Brompton should make a line of affordable bikes and stop complaining.

They should move the factory to Eastern Europe (Poland or the Czeh Republic are very good with bikes.) Still within the EU, so there's legal leeway. But with #Brexit…
