@roidroid Жыл бұрын
It can do all of these, albeit slowly, tho the balls may catch your clothes. I wouldn't jump on this prototype tho, not robust enough (simply wasn't designed for that kinda force). Making the StriderVR bigger would help most of these maneuvers go better (without risking running off the side of the treadmill before it can keep up), and more robustness would help with a jump.
@aoeu256 Жыл бұрын
I have a mini-elliptical under my desk, why not connect it to the computer, but give it ability to turn if you only move foot or something. It will be sort of analogy movement. I also have an idea for an operating system and apps that promote exercise for example the scroll bar will require you to move your legs, when you surf the net the webpage text and posts will be put on textboxes that require you to move forward to disappear. Folders and images and files will be displayed in "3D" requiring you to use the elliptical to move to to find the other files and to go through folders. The energy you use to move can be used to power laptops and tablets and heating/cooling elements allowing you to use them "off-grid". kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGfCkGyua9KAjsk

why is this the only one trying a roller based system? its the only thing with less inertia than the infinadeck that isn't completely passive like a dish.
@megatron15954 жыл бұрын
Thats like a platform with much marbles inside
@roidroid Жыл бұрын
@@megatron1595 The Infinadeck is essentially a Treadmill-made-of-50-individual-smaller-treadmills, it's TREADMILL'CEPTION, and as a result it's very complex. The StriderVR is comparatively much more simple & elegant, and thus should be cheaper to manufacture. It consists of only 1 treadmill, a rotating table with the caged balls, and 1-4 motors to rotate the table (it theoretically can be spun with only 1 motor).

they didnt copy this they are using similar techniques which are scientifically the best choice to design something for the application. for example the hexagonal placement of the tile is the most efficient packing method. disney’s prototype is using ultrasonic vibrations whereas this video is using a treadmill and spheres.

Great idea for walking, but the body's momentum won't change when changing directions virtually, which will decrease immersion.
@livefire6664 жыл бұрын
Negative, your body can not tell which way it’s facing when your eyes are covered. Especially when being told you are facing a different direction.
@roidroid Жыл бұрын
The human body can't sense momentum, you FEEL it by the pressure exerted on your feet: As you jump forwards, you feel the pressure as you press the ground backwards. Then as you land from the jump and come to a stop, you feel your feet exerting pressure forwards. Even a normal treadmill already perfectly replicates this feeling, and so does this one. The immersion is broken when you step OFF of the treadmill.
@josephzicaro9913 Жыл бұрын
@@roidroid correct, but I'm not talking about momentum, I'm talking about changes in momentum. A treadmill has the same problem.
@roidroid Жыл бұрын
@@josephzicaro9913 Oops somehow i forgot we were talking about THIS SPECIFIC TREADMILL. Yeah you're right, it's rotating the user & moving them forwards and backwards, effectively similar to giving them a tiny little "shove" even if the motions are smoothed as much as they can be, i wonder if it feels a bit off-balance like someone has tilted the ground.

I own two slide-mills (Virtuix Omni, and KatWalk C2), and this is just a more expensive slide-mill. It won’t feel any different than the cheaper, lower tech versions. There’s really no point in raising the cost of a slide-mill when the immersion effect will feel exactly the same. Any improvements in the technology that don’t improve immersion are pointless. And the only way to improve immersion is moving on from slide-mill to true tread-mill, where your shoe grips the “ground beneath your feet” and pushes it back behind you. That is the only way to increase immersion in a VR treadmill.

The roll back when he stop walking at the beginning showed it still needs some work. Cant see it working with normal movements other than walking or running. But with handle bar for balance.
@Legoperson753 жыл бұрын
The idea of rolling spheres seems really good for vr application. They would work with any type of shoes. If one or two goes bad, others can still receive movement info. they can be easily replaced depending on how it’s assembled. You don’t need a big treadmill to keep you in place. With ai, it could easily adapt to your walking patterns and movements over time. My main concern is dirt getting into the sensors.
@D3ckstr2 жыл бұрын
The sensors could even be external from the treadmill… putting sensors on your feet and waist to read the locomotion data and the treadmill just allows you to perform the motions in a small space
@Legoperson752 жыл бұрын
@@D3ckstr heck using a webcam with depth sensing like a Xbox Kinect could probably do the same job without the big sensors, this could also offer full body tracking as well.
@roidroid Жыл бұрын

Hmm, great idea however how will you stop without programming the treadmill? Maybe remove the treadmill and have a harness to hold you on place while you roll on the balls off a natural movement 🤔 this would eliminate the need for programming as well as allow the user to move as fast as they want and stop when ever with real time results.
