I really hope someone gets the shoes right. It would be the most practical option for most of us. I've long wanted something like this for stuff like cyberpunk or bethesdas open world games. But hearing the slide mils look better than they feel makes me glad I haven't bought one. Using something that makes you walk differently for hours on end could contribute to posture issues and might not end up being as effective at maintaining fitness as actually walking and thats the ideal goal imo - to allow us to play these fun open world games while still getting the benefits of actually moving.

My feeling is that an Infinidec approach looks the most natural but the faster you run and the more suddenly you stop the larger deck you will need, otherwise you'll get thrown off when it stops suddenly. With a larger surface it will have more time to react smoothly to such situations.

I think that's what's hindering progression it need incredibly accurate predictive elements to work effectively

I truly don't understand why the rotating arm connected at your lower back is not combined with an Infinidec. It seems like a no brainer combo with both the slide-mill and the omni-mill solving each other's problems.
@kantoskhan5611 Жыл бұрын
It's not really a predictive issue, it's a physics one. Think about what would happen if you suddenly stopped on a regular treadmill. You'd go flying off the back right? Even the best commercial treadmills physically can't stop immediately and have a significant time to slow down even if you do an emergency stop. Even if they predicted you'd stop on a dime the deck physically can't stop it's backwards momentum that was previously counteracting you immediately. Unfortunately, I don't think this kind of solution will ever work for moving at anything above a fast walk due to the inherent momentum of the treadmill. @@VirtualChap2024

The infinidec looks fine currently, just lower the price a bit cuz I'm assuming it's hella expensive rn. Big enough space to rn. I think realistically a VR or AR dedicated room fits best for full movement. Maybe strips of mini cameras like the LED lights ppl have in their rooms, but lined with small cameras for tracking. That way when I'm high I can go into vr, into an extremely trippy environment and get more fucked up.

big problems is still: outside the us, most treadmills are still import ware and shipping them, get expensive. and the second thing is the vr hardware itself. the market nowadays, is centered around 2 groups. enthusiast level set starting a 1600+ dollars and midrange standalone devices with pcvr as an afterthought and no way to get compression free feed. theres no index 2, no reverb g3.. no lower high end high midrange packs on current gen state. its eighter eol stuff like the g2, with known problems with tracking and downsides like smal fov or last gen hardware that isnt worth its asking price anymore, when 300 dollar cheaper newer version, do certain things so much better, for less money. vr is still niche, most succes is on the casual market and there you dont need many of the aspects, that i wanna see improved for good pricing.

I don't understand how the Infinidec does 360? Perhaps the next step is a treadmill on a rotating platform that turns when you turn. Needs to be light, quiet and cheap as well. No more than the headset anyway. Not sure about the complaints about people getting tired. There will be be lots of super fit gamers in the future that never went near a gym, or sports field. What's wrong with that?
@itsnetts10 ай бұрын
No need for a rotating platform with the infinidec. Since you can walk in any direction on the Infinidec, you'll be effectively moving in the direction you want and the deck translates that to movement. On it's input it's just a treadmill that you can walk any direction in and it returns you in the middle, on the output it is effectively the thumbstick that is sending commands to move in the direction that you are moving (If you move diagonally, it sends commands to move you diagonally). Does it detect when you turn in reality or would you have to effectively only use the thumbstick to turn yourself, that I don't know but it looks cool nevertheless.

There is a new type of treadmills hopefully coming to private consumers in the next years. It's based on omnidirectional rollers, in theory this approach could be way smaller, quieter and also cheaper than the Infinadeck while still offering the same advantages. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omWapqang6-sgNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp7Jq42lgdx_r9U

My only problem with these systems is that they can't simulate stairs, falls, inclines, rolls, jumps, flying. They are slide systems or they are 2d movement systems. The technology is still to primitive to see anything cool imo.

That's why we need full deep dive VR like from SAA (Sword Art Online) that uses our brain nerves while we sleep, so it's like an ultra realistic dream
@YessiYuri3 ай бұрын
@@insansiregar6158 Yes but that type of technology is way further down the road, probably not something we'd see in our lifetime. Right now we could use a multiple axis SCARA (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm) and a more robust platform to get a way better result than this slide stuff but it's just too expensive apparently.
