for the argument of novice vs acolyte, i think novice is better in this deck. maybe in wild acolyte is better, if you're running cards like thaurissan and antonidas. in standard, at least in the current meta, novice is so crucial sometimes just as an instant recycle. if you could just run a 28 card deck then maybe you wouldn't want either acolyte or novice engineer. sometimes the 1/1 is important for damage breakpoints though. if you add up all the damage you'll deal in the average game you'll see what i mean, you're either doing a lot more than 30 dmg or you're doing close to 30 and the remaining hit points have to be removed with pings or attacks with the tokens. your main sources of damage, 6+6+3+3+10=28 plus or minus however many pings, or you're over 30 with minion damage. in other words you deal damage in multiples of 3, so a 1/1 minion is more valuable than it might seem. the same could be said for a 1/3, but acolyte's draw is much slower and it's also less likely to ever get an attack in. people prioritize killing acolyte when you give them the opportunity to prevent the card draws, whereas novice engineer is so easy to ignore. seems like a really minor point but it's worth mentioning, anyway the main reason novice seems better right now is just so many urgent matchups in standard where you need to freeze the board every turn or win the game immediately. if you have to cast 2 fireballs, 2 valets, and 2 frostbolts within 2 turns then you'd almost always rather have the instant 2 mana draw than have to spend 5 mana to acolyte + ping with the potential upside of turning the 1 acolyte into 2 or 3 cards. not just because you may need the extra 3 mana to cast a spell but because you may have to draw multiple cards in a single turn, and then if you spend 2 mana to draw instead of 5 you can potentially do at least 3 more damage. and in general freeze mage's good matchups are so much faster now than they used to be. against paladin and quest warrior im sure you can afford the acolyte + pings but you are probably not playing freeze mage to counter healing classes :p

Not dropped. He joined a different team. C9 seems to be moving away from the competitive scene if you look at their roster changes lately.

Not in mage. They don't have another 2 drop cycle as far as I know. In rogue you could with something like shiv. The cycle is more important than spell damage in freeze mage IMO
