How much do all these weird boards and jet skis cost? Money is the gate keeper of this type of surfing haha

This type? Any CI, JS, HS, AM, Mayhem, or Pyzel performance model is gonna run you back $700 to start. Yeah, you can get on a used board for less, or a foam, or less thrashy twin or something for a couple hundred less. Still, all types of surfing are pretty expensive to get into.

@@DustinKeiser A tow board is actually going to be a lot cheaper, and windsurf boards are pretty similar, with some more volume. A tow board is a lot like a snowboard, just performance fiberglass with some float, similar to a cheap wakesurf. Foils aren't cheap, but are pretty similar to the retail price of a new performance board. The small ones are the fastest ones for downwinding.

The gear is relatively cheap except for buying dozens of everything. The travel costs are insane. No way Kai could do all this without sponsors but he clearly continues to earn it.

Kalama and laird got fame from foiling because of RUSH RANDLE. . Rush leased the patent off Mike Murphy ( inventor of air chair) and began developing it. Then laird took all that and ran with it… kalama and laird didn’t get Kai into it… Rush did. I remember when Kai was like ten and rush, myself and Kai were all at sprecks messing around with a foil on a sailboatd. Rush never gets the credit he deserves and I know Kai knows this. Foiling and the inception should never be mentioned without RUSH RANDLE, because it wouldn’t even be a thing without him
