My Sifu and I both play drums. It's given us a neat secondary language to clarify concepts. Tension as the enemy, push/pull, broken rhythm, even basic striking all have commonalities that can be expressed through language drummers are familiar with. One of my favorite little idioms he used was explaining the relation between thought and tension. It was essentially "when you knock a glass off the table by accident, why is it that you can't catch it when you see it happen, but you can if you only feel it happen?" It was basically an admonishment to relax, stop thinking, and not use our eyes but our sense of touch in our chi sao drills.

Hello Michael. What kind of routine would you recomend for an elderly person? I dont mean a 90+ person. But lets say 55 to 70. I would be delited to have your answer. Take care and thank you for your very informative videos. Really helped me with various obstacles I had found during my training. Eitherway my father would like to train with me but he is in that range of age I wrote. Take care.

From what ive seen n experienced, everyone is built differently so everyone has different goals. Plus it depends on what stage in ur life n what ur starting from physically. One big thing i recommend is stretching. The benefit of properly spending time to stretch cannot be stressed enough...
@BlueFang7146 жыл бұрын
Looking at how you move it looks like hip and shoulder are simultaneous rather than channeling from hip to shoulder. To my understanding it means less use of weight and throwing weight and more on what I call stretching your strikes. Hits less like a rock and more like a spear, feels more like it stabs through you. When you throw your weight, it feels more like your body pushes into the target. When you "stretch" it feels more like you were pulled into the strike which feels effortless. Just my observation of course, could be doing something entirely different.
