String Baskets - The Strings and Crumbs videos

Hello everyone! Today, we are going to show you another one of my favorite string busting ideas! It is fast easy, useful and a lot of fun!
Cut 5 pieces of Batting at 6.5 inches square
Cut 4 piece of lining at 6.5 x 7.0 inch rectangle
Cut 1 piece of lining at 6.5 inches square
That extra .5 inch of lining creates a fake binding on the outside of the basket to give it a fun finish.
Remember it is easier to make more than one of these blocks at once because you can chain piece.
Remember to have fun with trying different scale of prints, color combinations, different layouts and keep moving forward.
Most importantly, quilting and piecing is about having fun not feeling pressured!
There is so many things to look at on a scrappy quilt box that other people won't notice any mistakes you make.

Great idea - cutting lining larger. I'm going to try this on my next "basket". If you turn it over and put a slit in the top, these "baskets" make covers for tissues boxes. (Love that red, black and white cat fabric!)

OH I SO AGREE WITH YOU... on showing your mistakes. I once did a video on sewing something up and I left all my mistakes and mishaps in the video and one person ripped me over the coals about it. Fun project. Loved your vintage machine. I sew on my mom’s Singer 401a that she bought in the ‘50s. My dad made a crank for me out of a coat hanger and a spool when I was too young for the speed of the peddle. I think I was 8yo. I have made clothes, quilts, and anything else I wanted to. What I love most is it’s strength and reliability, and that I can clean and repair it myself. I use computers in my job daily but am glad I don’t have to bring the frustration of their moods to my sewing. Besides that model singer has every combination of stitches I could ever want or use. It’s good ol American ingenuity. Too bad they sold the brand to China.

If they keep on the professional thing, they may ask for more than you can do, and get all annoyed when you say no. That is a very neat idea. You could add pockets inside or out, before making it up, and use it for a notions storer. All the best.
