Hi Grace! Just watched your video on SOP after I killed mine :( Love your informative video and I'm reconsidering whether to purchase another one. I have 2 questions. Do you hang your SOP in your balcony or you place the pot on a surface? Do you think humidity level will affect SOP water requirements? I live in Singapore and our humidity is on average 85%. Hi Grace. I'm a Planterina fan too. Great video. I just got a string of pearls...still very small as they were propagated. I've been trying to find the right soil for it. You said a Cactus mix is good? I was advised to watch out for a mix with peat moss or anything peat as it holds back water and won't allow drainage.
@MyFellowFoliage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Klassy, so sorry for the delayed response. I just saw your comment! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. Definitely use a cactus mix or regular potting mix with a good amount of perlite. Watch out for peaty mixes for sure because it holds onto moisture like you said and succulents don't like it very much

@carolinegilbert89453 жыл бұрын
HELLO, I just wanted to let you know your helpful advice here has helped me be so much more confident with caring for my string of pearls plants, and my plants are growing longer trail branches😀, but I do have another query, the string branches are getting longer but the pearls have stayed small, especially my propagated small pots, what is your thoughts on "how to grow bigger pearls on the string branches, looking forward to your response, have a lovely day.
@MyFellowFoliage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline, oh my gosh. Thanks so much for leaving a comment on here. It absolutely makes my day to know that my advice has helped you! To be honest, I also struggle with growing bigger pearls on the string branches and haven't quite cracked the code on it BUT my best guess is ensuring it gets sufficient water because that's what the pearls are made up of on the inside :)

What are the temperatures on your balcony? I got a new 2” pot and after acclimating inside I put it outside in shade so it only got bright indirect light and the temps were in the 80’s and it fried in one day.
@MyFellowFoliage3 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Sorry to hear. Where I live it can go up to 30+ degrees Celsius but I try to keep it in a shadier spot so it doesn't get fried by the direct sunlight and heat

Hi! I have a very small strong of pearls, in a well draining soil and small ceramic pot. It was doing fine the first couple months until I realized the new beads growing in were turning brown before they got a chance to grow. I have been struggling to figure out what is causing this and haven't found anyone that has talked about it.
@MyFellowFoliage3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It sounds like it could need more water if the new growth is crisping up before it gets a chance to grow. I'd water it a little more frequently gradually and see how it goes!

I just feel frightened and am scared to plant mine. my new terra cotta planter has a 6" opening, just like the planter it came in, but the base is larger...i'm scared!!! I don't want to kill it! would bonsai jack gritty mix be a good soil for this plant, and should I try to remove the potting soil around the already established roots, or leave that part? i'm frozen in fear of killing this cute lil plant!
@MyFellowFoliage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lauren, I feel you! I've killed so many of them in the past I understand how scary it is. I think you can grow these in gritty mixes, I've seen some people have success. If you're going to move it, definitely remove all the soil before transplanting into the gritty mix! I say if you think it's not liking it's current environment definitely take action!

Hi there Amelie, is it looking dry and crispy or brown and mushy? If it's the former, try putting it in a shadier spot without too much direct sunlight and water a touch more frequently. If it's the later, it's probably overwatering...
