This really fits the scene. The moment Horus died was not a glorious or self-aggrandizing one. He really realized his mistake, and by that factor, the Emperor probably gave him the mercy that anyone in his spot could have begged for. He destroyed his soul. (at least in my mind, if you have no soul, you can't go to the warp. So its like...preventing hell from his favored Son.)

@@bbdf21 No way. Ending up on the Throne is the final victory for Chaos. Sure, humanity survives, but it survives by feeding Chaos ten thousand plus years of worship and sacrifice. If Chaos had lost Horus without mortally wounding the Emperor, then eventually Chaos would have lost all of that worship and been destroyed. If Horus had killed the Emperor, then the Chaos Gods would have torn one another apart in the in-fighting over the spoils of victory. Only by the Emperor ending up on the Golden Throne does the Great Game of Chaos go on forever and ever, continually feeding more souls and worship into the meatgrinder. Only by the Emperor being mortally wounded but sustained does Chaos win the ultimate victory: Eternal and ever lasting war. The Emperor wouldn't have planned for a Chaos victory. He just made the best of a bad situation, IMO, and chose to save humanity over killing his enemies.

He was DROWNING in the Chaos Kool-aid by then. He really rejected the influence of Chaos Undivided and the direct power of ALL FOUR CHAOS GODS and discarded his gifted power just because a Mournival mildly egged him into it, which is how he lost the fight with the Emperor. As much as Imperium fans like to think the Emperor achieved a glorious holy victory, he basically only won because Horus was about done with everything. It doesn’t help that; 1) Multiple writers with their own interpretations write Horus differently. 2) Emps and Malcador are secretive dumbasses and Chaos barely had to try to trick Horus into thinking that the Sigilite and his bureaucrats were going to, not only wipe out half the legions, but erase them from memory ala the erased two Primarchs. ALSO MAL YOU IDIOT STOP THE FORCE CHOKE. 3) Chaos likely gave Horus his memories back and definitely informed him of his father’s shady things, which probably gave him the same realization Perty and 40k Guilliman(who still cared enough for humanity to not turn traitor) realized about the Emperor. IIRC Molech also, understandably, pissed him off hard. Because Emps is a hypocrite. 4) By the time Leman freed him, Horus was already resigned to the rebellion - knowing it was too late to turn back, and utterly disillusioned with Emps and his Imperial ‘Truth’, he just had yet to realize the Chaos Kool-aid was even worse like Jaghatai did.

It only matter if he isn't fighting a psyker who can just kill him, he has no special strengths or magic on him other than that immortality and even that falls apart under horus, who had reached powers that could easily kill any other primarch and easily destroy thousands of perpetuals with a single blast. The guy wa still human and making him a perpetual made his relationship with the emperor a personal one. The perpetual fought alongside the emperor during the world wars and other earth conflicts but while the emperor turned to nihilism, ollanius turned to catholicism. The two were total opposites and all they had in common was there past. Pious dying there was another example of a religion triumphing over the emperor as instead of one of his super soldiers it was a man the emperor thought delusional that protected him with nothing more then a rifle against a demigod. Pious being a perpetual added to the story ad he was just a normal dude and became another example of why religion in 40k is not exclusively evil as that guy still had faith and went down dying for the emperor, someone who would have left him to did if the situation was reversed. The emperor viewed people like Pious as expendable Pons in a larger game.

Perturabo is some how relatable to me in the sense that he would try his best to keep his word, the problem with him being the means in which did it ordering a tenth of his legion be brutally beaten by the rest on the first day and turning the legion into cold killers through fear, though to be fair the man fights the cruelest wars of the great crusade, the wars to break bastions that were meant to be impregnable for many forget that siege warfare is the most bloody type of warfare in history, because regardless of what you do the cost will always be greater then the gain.

The thing is, they both made this decision separately, and neither of them knew the other was pretending. The Alpha Legions' secretive and scheming nature had begun to work against it. Even if they had been honest with each other, they wouldn't have believed each other. But they both found ways to discretely help the Loyalists. Alpharius launched an early attack against Terra before the rest of the Traitor Legions arrived, which helped Dorn identify and fix all the planet's weak points. Omegon was sent to recruit Jaghatai Khan to the traitors, but instead provoked a fight with the White Scars so that Jaghatai would go off on his own to find his own answers. And when Alpharius and Dorn fought, Alpharius outright offered to throw the match and help Dorn achieve victory, but Dorn just ignored him and killed him.

The opening lyrics are honestly your best part of this song for me. It’s so hauntingly accurate in regards to Horus and my legion. Being corrupted by chaos and used a pawn, dragging seven more legions down with us into the darkness and only being free to realize with haunting clarity what we have become and the horrors we have unleashed, begging for the release of death in repentance for our Heresy. And in the end no one remembered how he wished to repent. The Neverborn call him the sacrificed king because he was just a pawn, the Loyalists know him as the Arch Traitor who shattered the emperor’s dream, most of his sons see him as a failure and the other traitor legions would blame us of the Heresy’s failure calling it the Cthonian’s folly. If only we didn’t heed Erebus’ poison.
