It's when they're played like this, you realize actually how good Kiss' melodies are, unbelievably catchy. Paul, Gene, Peter and Ace really knew how to craft a proper song. It's also noteworthy how well written Kiss songs are, on the surface, brash, loud and crazy, but they're actually quite nuanced.

Well, Paul, Gene and Ace, anyway. Peter didn't actually write any KISS songs; even "Beth" was essentially written by Stan Penridge and Bob Ezrin off of phone conversations between a former bandmate and his wife. Peter had a damn good rock voice, and his drumming had a marvelously idiosyncratic feel that gelled well with his self-taught bandmates. Ace, Paul and Gene deserve the credit for the band's eternally catchy tunes, with Paul being one of the more underrated riffmasters in rock history.

The song was actually written by Desmond Child and producer Vini Poncia with Stanley. Ace and Peter rarely did studio work after the Destroyer sessions.
