I chose this engine swap instead of other excellent ones like the LS or K-motor swaps, not because the Ecotec is perfect, but rather it suits my personal needs and budget. For me it has enough power, track proven reliability, and is a cost effective option. Depending on your specific needs there's lots of Miata swap options available on the market, from mild to wild, and are capable of soaking up even the healthiest of car modding budgets. Choose wisely!

Great video as always :) - I bet extracting all those studs was a lot of fun! Looking forward to this one, not a common swap in the UK where the Jaguar v6 is king

Extracting studs was hours of anxiety, < 30 secs of vid 😵 The Jaguar V6 swap looks incredible. I'll bet those motors are plentiful in the UK but similarly they're not popular here in North America. People tend to go for the Honda V6 J-series swap or the GM LFX V6 swap. It's a great time to be a Miata enthusiast, we're spoiled for choice!

I am looking forward to how this one goes! One tip : cleaning engines (cars, motorcycles, ATV's, anything greasy) I started using a cheap blaster from Harpoon Fright. They only cost about 10 bucks, connect to your shop air, and have a weighted tube you stick down into a cleaner solution, and blast away! I mix up a bucket of HOT HOT HOT water, mix it with my cleanser of choice (Super Clean, Simple Green, Purple Power, etc.) . I have found it works awesomely well. Also blasts into places you can't get with a brush or wire wheel. I'm definitely learning stuff here, for when my son's NB needs an engine swap.

"Harpoon Fright" ... is that the whaling halloween store I've heard so much about? 🤣🤣🤣 Presumably you're talking about one of those pneumatic tornado foam guns? I have one but I usually use it for cleaning floor mats and carpets with a vinegar mixture. I'll have to try it with Simple Green on this kind of job ... I would have welcomed a better way to blast off the caked on oily grime. Thx for the suggestion!
@JohnnieBravo1 Жыл бұрын
@@mostlyuselessgarage They call it an "Engine Cleaning Gun", and can be found in their Air Tools and Compressors section. Their price on them here in Alabama is $8.97. Cheap, and disposable, and I found they work very well.

For sure, it's not nearly as sexy as a burly LS or a high-revving K but I think it's got a lot going for it. Thx for the comment!

For folks with fabrication skills and equipment they can swap anything into a Miata, even a 1-stroke motor 😮 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5bZmaaNgbyfobs I wish I had such skill!

Good point. List of swaps with complete kits Honda K and J series Chevy LS, LE5, and LFX V6 13b rotary Nissan Sr20 There are others but most seem a little silly. I think you nailed it on the ecotech being the best bang for the buck. The j series would be a contender but all the solutions for the intake manifold aren’t great I just can’t get the idea of an oem turbo swap like the 2.0 or 2.3 ecoboost out of my mind

Just found your channel. Love this content. I'm swapping a 2.4 LE-45 into my car, too. Question: are you going to replace the timing chain. Rumor has it that this is the weak-link in these engines and should be replaced when you don't know the history of the engine. Thoughts?

Wait... You're Asian? This is a truly informative video! Also you could do the right thing with the engine and send it to a machine shop to bore the cylinders up to 87mm. Basically making it a new block, then add billet crank shaft and pistons.
@mostlyuselessgarage Жыл бұрын
You're probably right and I'll likely need to do that in the near future provided I don't blow an inspection window out the side of the block. Thx for the comment!
