Brilliant video thanks John and set in an environment and time of day that I love. I ordered a stack of those otter tails about a year or more back. Ordered more than we realised (I live in the UK ) but they will last me years to come. We did the same as you, cut them to all sorts of sizes and shapes and they really are excellent little things. Have white, chartreuse and pink ones. In fact I just noticed I even have them in a sparkly watermelon colour too. Did you see their others? The Tube Tails and Fat tails Now they are some crazy lures! I hope they continue to worl s well for you as they have done so far mate. All the best as always, Andy.

The curly tails swim great as the trailer for a tube for trolling. Nice rippling action.

I feel like bucktail trailers are very underrated for general use. As a shore fisherman they allow the bait to have more bulk and sink slower as well as they normally add scent.

I have found the Otter Tails are basically worthless if bluefish are around. One strike, they are shredded, two strikes, gone. I just purchased another synthetic alternative made by 'Fat Cow..'. haven't tried it yet.

I see Uncle Josh's rind on Amazon and was able to pick some up today at Capitol in Manhattan. Are they out of business? BTW - got your bucktail book last night and it was already helpful. Today I caught my first for the season. A nice schoolie - pretty decent size. Caught at night on a 1/5 oz neon green Blue Frog and a #57 Uncle Josh rind. I know this isn't exactly what the book suggested but it worked - Thank you!

Do you think the otter tails will work well as a substitute for fluke belly and other strip baits for fluke fishing ? I like how many fish you were able to catch on one half a tail. May save me a lot of time and money on squid strips.

Thank you for all the videos that you have posted. They've convinced me to buy your book Striper Pursuit. I'm trying to get back into the whole surf casting thing. Only now I'm realizing that I did everything wrong, I was a deadliner with no clue on how to read the beach. Just a little off topic from the stripers, I started watching your fluke videos and enjoy them. What type and size of boat are you using. It looked smaller than what I would expect for the ocean. Thanks. - Keith

I just bought Otter Tail to try for striped bass here in canada (east coast) was wondering can i cut all them strip in half and keep them in the jar for like 2-4 years? (I usually only go striped bass fishing once or twice if i have the time per year) Or do you just recommend cutting them on the spot when using it? (I carry a long enough scissor to cut em easily on the spot too)
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing Ай бұрын
No problem to cut and store. They seem to last forever, unless you get them dirty while fishing and leave them in the jar a long time. Even that isn't necessarily a problem.

Is there a specific reason why you fish in Long Island and not Brooklyn for example? How did you know there were fish in this creek? Whenever I fish in Brooklyn, there are no fish! If there are 10 anglers, and one catches a fish in 4 hours, that's cause for celebration!
