In this video I show how I used a "Sav-A-Thread" kit to repair a blown out spark plug on a 1997 Subaru Legacy with an EJ22 engine.

Looks good, I'm about to so this on my '98 Impreza. My only addition is that most threadlocker cures in anaerobic conditions so you just need to tighten it not necessarily wait for it to set like silicone, etc.

I thought that this particular one said to leave it overnight or something like that. Maybe not, either way it worked out. Hopefully it goes/went good for you

Asking because idk where else to turn, I need to order some for my ej22, but it’s for the header studs. Is it m10x1.25?

So, did you use the expanding tool in the end or not? I just did this to my 99 Impreza 2.5 and I'm wondering if I need bother trying to use the swagging tool. It's too short to reach down and still be able to hit it with a hammer, so some sort of extension would be required.

I never ended up doing it. It has held up fine. No issues at all. Except that a different spark plug ended up blowing out a year later......

@@DIYAUTOCAR Ya, that's what I'm afraid of. I've had one other plug come out twice, but it securely screwed back in both times. The last time with red Loctite. I'm just trying to nurse the car thru to next spring, hopefully the markets will return to normal by them. Guys are asking $25-$27K for 2017 Imprezas up here in Canada.

It has held up great. I still have the car and haven't had any issues with the repair.

Lol same engine same cylinder

Yeah, it seems to be a common thing on these engines

Mine was already helicoiled by previous owner so it needs a new head :(

@@notyouraveragemechanic7376 I would try and use a timesert. They make an oversized time sert that will work for a failed/improper helicoil install. Worth a shot before pulling a head off and swapping it.
