I owned a TF Magna and then went to a KJ Verada. Both fantastic cars. Also worked for a major car rental company that went from a large fleet of Commodores, then in the early 2000s we introduced the Magna. Absolutely no issues with a huge fleet of them. I like the 'Law & Order' approach to the operation. Excellent viewing, my OCD limiter is redlining. Just a thought, in most cases, simply swap the passenger & drivers seats over as the passenger is generally better. Also, if you pick up a seat from a wrecker, the seat base and back rest seperate, allowing you to create the best option, keep or sell the spare. This process has afforded me excellent quality bucket seats in many of the older Falcons I have owned. I'm sure this is no secret to you, but it may help a few viewers.

6:45 honestly my first thought was an elephants condom. Also about the shampooing, I remember having the best luck at a dealership I worked at for a while where we would take the seats/carpet out of the used cars the dealer was getting ready to put on the lot. And we would use a pressure washer before shampooing. Spray some high quality all purpose cleaner or upholstery friendly degreaser, and then spray the seats/carpet with a lower pressure as to not damage the material. Afterwards I'd recommend taking the seats to some kind of detail shop that has access to high quality shampoo machines, It really does make a world of difference using an industrial sized machine with a high quality steel extractor. I think you'd be shocked at how good the seats would look after that

I’ve bought a couple of cars with seats like that, and I’ve found the best approach is simply clothes washing liquid, a scrubbing brush and the garden hose. The trick is you need to have a couple of really hot days to do it because you soak the seat foam all the way through and it will never dry out on anything less than a couple of 35 degree days. A summer only job. But that deeply embedded filth like simply needs a lot of water to flush it out….
@Seiskid2 жыл бұрын
Peter Anderson pulls the seat covers off and chucks them in the washing machine. It seems like a ton of work, but he gets good results. If you still end up with residual staining that might be an option. As long as there's no airbag in the seat side bolster that is. If you did that you could even get some red dye from spotlight and try to recolor the seats. Excited to see where this car ends up. I'm sure you'll do a good job.

It was funny one day at work when the boss asked me if I could drop Mrs Palmer home 🖐️ 🤣🤣🤣... It was so hard to keep a straight face... One thing these cars had was two different types of spark plugs fitted to them... They had standard spark plugs in the front bank and platinum spark plugs under the intake manifold in the rear bank... You used to do the front plugs as required and you would change the rear spark plugs every 100,000kms... It wasn't a bad job... While you had the intake manifold off you would clean the throttle body and intake manifold etc... If it needed a rear rocker cover gasket you do one of those as well while you were in there... Went most of the way around to stop the scalloped look so it looked good and factory...(Could even get them professionally machined too but if you want to save a few $$) I masked them up and painted and clear coated them (just the lips too not the whole wheel as they looked great still. They still look great 8 years later on my daily drive. Seats look a million times better... woah they were filthy. Keep up the great work.. this beast deserves some love! Heater core isn't a hard job just time consuming. take heaps of pics as you go. shame as the orings are a couple of bucks each and that's generally why they fail. Looking forward to how it looks in the end. There is a guy up the road from me in Elizabeth SA that sells a lot of Magna parts. He lists them on Australia Mitsubishi parts group.

I think I've seen him. A lot of good parts down there in SA.

@@MotoringBoxTV yes there. It’s the home of the Magna i suppose. Still lots of ages on the roads.

While I never knew about these Ralliart magnas, I knew of the 6 cylinder engines which is V6 in these specific body style cars had many issues with cooking and seizing. My Dad has a 1st generation Pajero with a similar engine format/layout in which it would cook as a result of a tube in the water pump. These engines are great when they work, but are difficult when they fail. Note the Pajero to tune it and time it requires earthing a wire or else the timing advance kicks in.

I have been around magnas for 20 years at least now - And i have never known of the 6G engines in the Magnas with major issues of cooking and siezing. Poor maintenance from owners contributes, remember, $1000 cars attract $1000 owners, and they all get run into the ground.

@@dodgeviper89 Neighbor down the road had a V6 Magna and he told me the engine overheated and seized. He also said he was on a road he could not pull over on at the time. To some extent I know he looks after his cars. To another, he doesn't know enough. Then I saw heaps of stories of those Magna V6's cooking and from the experiences, with the 6G72 it's not far from the truth and It could be just a lack of knowledge of repairing, tuning, and some bad design choices from the manufacturer. I don't know if you know about the Valley Pipe in the 6G72, but ours now has a hose and a tapped fitting inside of the water pump. The problem was every time we put the seal in and used high-quality silicon, the seal would inevitably leak again and again and again. An inescapable issue no matter what we did right. It just was not sealing. and always at the bottom of the pipe did the leak reoccur. Since the V6 is similar with some slight differences between parts, I know about potential weaknesses. And I'm guessing based on the video of the car, the heater core could be a key area and point for why these cars cook.

@@michaelthemekhanical 6The engines used in this series of Magna, the earlier 6G72 SOHC 24v and this, the 6G74 SOHC 24v, had no major engine flaws. They were put under incredibly punishing tests at MMAL during inception to prove reliability. One of the engineers who developed this Ralliart Engine is in one of the facebook groups I'm in and posts a whole bunch of data sheets from when he worked there. I know these can take a flogging, and with multi layer steel head gaskets, to actually cook a 6G7 motor is a decent feat. RE: your issues - I've done a ton of water pumps and valley pipes on magnas and NEVER had one leak. Then again I always, ALWAYS use OEM Mitsubishi seals/parts. So something is certainly not right there. Heater core plastic pipes go brittle and snap off, a stupid design in my opinion and really, should have been designed with access to those pipes from the engine bay. Alas, every car has it's small flaws.

@@dodgeviper89 Maybe will try and push for my Dad's 6G72 to get some MLS gaskets. I mean your right, they are really good gaskets, I rebuilt my 4D56T and used a MLS gasket because it was just eating head gaskets before I fully reconditioned my engine from top to bottom. Cost me about $10,000 in all the little things as well as bigger things, but I've never cooked it once, not even under load. The weakness with an MLS is in some spots it's difficult to get a perfect seal. Mine did leak under load but running at temperature, it wasn't much and it's never leaked again. Eatting head gaskets in the 4D56T diesel were attributed to faulty injector spray pressure and patterns surprisingly. But the addition of a new head, valves, and springs helped significantly.

Subbed for some magna love! I think the stock wheels and lowered on some quality coilovers will be mint. The original suspension will be flogged.
