This video was very informative. My mother seems to be coughing more, at least for me, during meals. The reasons for the swallowing strategies are very helpful. My family uses most of them- I will try to implement the ones that I haven"t always-example- being eye level with my mom. Also, understanding the changes in the process of swallowing that require diet modifications brings clarity, and offers much needed assistance to me in this journey called cargiving. Thank you very much!

In Uk hospitals don't show or teach family members how to make pureed food for their family member suffering from dysphaigia. They are just left to get on with it.

@@okunolalawanyakinkunle8902 Elderly people with Dysphagia? (swallowing difficulty) or young people that have it. Sometimes soft (food) options is more manageable than puree food. Small portions. It is also wise to make the food look tasty and nice to eat. It is hard to think of lots of soft food options to eat or serve to patient when you are under pressure. Especially if that patient is close to you. A close friend or family member. Drinks need to be thick. Ordinary drinks like tea, coffee, drinks you need to dilute can go into the lungs if the patient has Dysphagia. That is why they need to be made thicker. You would need to experiment with right consistency. That is why they may need to be thickened. It is also important to rest the throat. While it is good to give small amounts of food several times a day. It can make the patient tired unfortunately. Because they maybe slow at eating the food can go cold. Some patients might manage cold meals better, while others might prefer warm meals. Always test it is not to hot to eat. You do not want to cause the patient's mouth to burn. Eating ice-lolly has been known to help with swallowing difficulty. It is best to write down many meals you can. This is because under pressure it is easy to forget things you can make for your loved one. Raw egg yolk is good for the throat. I would throw the white part away. Honey is good for the throat and is an antibiotic. Agrimony herb tea. Helps with respiratory. (breathing) problems. Swedish Bitters is excellent for many health conditions. See Health through God's Pharmacy, by Maria Treben. It's an excellent book. God bless!

I sometimes cannot swallow fluids and then blackout. This came after my 9th stroke and changed in some ways after my 12th stroke, The last 4 were basal ganglia due to large blood clots and AFib. Why can I swallow food, but not water? Why do water get hard in my oesophagus and cause me to faint?
