As the Director of Outpatient Cardiac Rehab at Helen Hayes Hospital, Steven Lichtman, Ed.D., was well versed on the topic of stroke. Yet recognizing its signs, and going through months of rehabilitation, were a challenge even for him. During this 20-minute presentation to current stroke patients, he delves into just what it takes to come back.
As Steve says, following a stroke, each patient adapts to their own level of independence. Through hard work and will power, recovery is a continual process and it’s possible to regain abilities over the course of many years.

this was such an informative video I had two strokes back on September 21,2020onwas told that I would only shuffle my feet the rest of my life. Ih come out of the wheelchair and no longer using a walker. It was determination and hard work from therapists and my Idid not know that the brain actually heals for 8 years. I had a goal to be without the wheelchair walker by March 21, 2021 that would have been my mom's and dad's 62nd wedding anniversary and I accomplished this over a month ahead.but my dad passed away 7 days before my strokes and luckily my daughter was with me and saw what was happening to me. got to the hospital in under 45minutes from the time it happened got a shot of TPA AND 3 stents in my right interior corotid artery my body rejected all three but that's actually a good thing. I never lost speech or my mental math skills. was in the hospital 7.5 weeks my wife with me the whole timePT3-4 hours a day 6days a week.I wasit all happened 7 days after my father died and three days after his burial.I was 52 when it happened I am now 53.

This is one of the best stroke recovery I ever heard or seen;I actually had a stroke too on the 2 nd of April for the first time in my life.but I must also confess that I am extremely lucky too and also the grace of God and also professional neurosurgeon who performed surgery on me but then I had a problem of insurance because I was an Uber/Lyft driver….and it never occurred to me that these companies had no insurance;I must confess it was only the grace of God that kept me alife today now I can walk perfectly but with the help of a hemi walker I actually don’t have the luxury of working with therapists since the jobs I worked did not provide insurance neither was I privileged to pay out of pocket but I still hinge all my faith on God as I know that I will still get back to my feet and gain my full independence
