I had a stroke at 49. It happened while I was asleep, was fortunate my wife noticed something was wrong and was able to resuscitate me. I wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for her. Spent 2 weeks ICU and have made full recovery since then. 🙏

Thank you for sharing, & glad this young man caught his stroke early. His "feeling like there's a magnet on your hip, pulling you to one side as you walk" is a great analogy. So, there's bleeding strokes, & blockage strokes. He had bad neck pain, not able to walk straight or unbalanced, & slurred speech. BE FAST - Balance, Eyes (blurry or double vision), Face, Arm, (droopy or can't move properly), Speech, Time (get to hospital fast because it's your brain). Good PSA.

I'm also a stroke survivor but I got stroke at 53 and it was shocking because one second I had the phone in my right hand then it let go of the phone, I tried again, same thing happened!! I got off the bed and my knees gave way then I had to balance myself before falling onto the bed(lucky). Thank God I wasn't at work or on the way to work when it happened. Anyway, I called my brother and he said I'm slurring as I told him what happened. He knew what it was as my Dad had a stroke too few years before. It's been 7 yrs now since my stroke, I've changed my diet, exercise more and just have a social life that is average with less alcohol and a lot more sleep. I'm in Asia by the way 😅😊

I am the least likely candidate to have a stroke. Eat mostly Vegetarian diet.Don't smoke or drink alcohol, Blood pressure 112/60. Low Cholesterol. 63 LDL. Triglycerides 75.Apo B 59, LP(a) 31, No diabetes. Normal body weight, Coronary Calcium score of Zero. Excellent fitness. Yet I had 2 strokes. Had all the blood tests by Haematologist looking for clotting problems. All tests came back negative. Go figure. I'm totally perplexed. No history of stroke in my family. Lucky for me I had no side effects and am able to do everything I did before these 2 events. Live in the present. Every day is a gift. Be kind and merciful to everyone. Life is precious!

@@Melinda8162 My problem is that unlike you, I live in the real world. I know that all docs are motivated by greed. Most do harm. Most label and sell drugs. Once in a while, they get tings right. So what. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. One day you will understand- after you deal with the evil, money hungry healthcare system. Sorry about your friend but that is what I mean. That same genius doc never told her pre-stroke, to lose weight, exercise, and eat better. Maybe in lip service but provided no meaningful plan. I guess you have never bothered to read The Flexner Report. It's all in there. They admit it. They make us sick on purpose- they adopted a model of treatment and reject all prevention. I do not idolize doctors. I use them for tests and general things like annual physicals. I do not take their drugs. I don't mean to be so cynical, but you have not lived my life- nor have I lived your likely easy, carefree life. We are different. I am sure you are a very nice person. Hibiscus tea helps with blood pressure. There are other herbs as well. Why don't you ask your doctor for resources that help with free blood pressure medications. Why work so hard and not be able to afford a few pills. High blood pressure can also affect your kidneys leading to dialysis. You couldn't be a truck driver having to do dialysis because it's 3 times a week. Get a job where they offer benefits or Better to just go on welfare.

I monitor my blood pressure daily. One day this past August my blood pressure kept going up up up. By the time it reached 186/110 I felt it was time to go to the ER. After check in my blood pressure rose to 300/219. Pulse rate was 180. I was in atrial flutter. Asymptomatic for other symptoms. I was admitted and started on IV Diltiazem. Within a few hours my blood pressure was down to 142/98 and I was back in sinus rhythm. After full cardiac work up and many months later an 80% blocked right internal carotid artery was discovered. Five weeks ago I had a Carotid Endarterectomy to remove the blockage. I feel great and so grateful that I did not have a stroke. FYI I don’t drink or smoke. I am not diabetic or over weight. I exercise on a treadmill 45 minutes per day every day and have done so for 22 years. I was not on any medications. I happily take medications now though. For me…it’s genetic. I am older. I am sixty-nine. There is nothing funny about a stroke. I am so grateful I dodged that bullet…at least for now. Take good care of yourself everyone.

@dobemom - I know you said you weren't on any meds at the time of the stroke but did you have high cholesterol? Just wondering because I don't have high cholesterol but it's not optimum either so just wondering how much that contributes. At this time, I do not want meds because I've heard statins cause other problems so unless I have really high choles, prefer to not do meds.
@J.o.e_K
@J.o.e_K 19 күн бұрын
@@JD-tn5tb Cholesterol slowly not being used as a factor. You should fear statins imo. Cash grab but what do I know. Stress test and BP less invasive indicators and still useful. Continue on your research. You may/will save your own life. I might add single ingredient whole foods are the best foods period. Nothing processed ever. Food likely the cause for 99% of health issues. Genetic and environment would be the other but what do I know. Walk and stretch daily. Light jog 10-15 minutes 2 days a week. Light weight lifting for bone health. 15-20 minutes 3 days a week for the bonus. Life is so simple.
@JD-tn5tb
@JD-tn5tb 19 күн бұрын
@@J.o.e_K - Thank you for your thoughts. We have very similar beliefs. I try to eat as much whole foods as possible and organic if prices not too outrageous and if organic available. I do eat lots of good foods. The problem is I love everything. So I might eat tons of salads and brocolli but I also love cake and ice cream. I walk outside every day and jog periodically on the treadmill. Nothing big deal - I jog for 1/4 mile then walk then jog for another 1/4 mile then walk but that's more than I see other 60 something year olds do. My bp good, bmi good, ldl slightly high but hdl really high so not concerned but as I get older, the total cholesterol has been harder to keep under 200. mine hasnt been under 200 in years but I am not concerned if under 230. Once it went up to 260 but I cut back on butter and sour cream and it lowered significantly. I probably do everything in moderation except the sweets. not diabetic but watching the a1c. I guess I will focus on eating sweets moderately. The person that commented on having a stroke after his bp went high, I was just curious because he sounded very healthy except after his bp went high. Thanks.

If you never had a massive stroke you won't understand what I'm typing. Last year I had a stroke on a jobsite. My employee.and homeowner were both standing next to me, From what I was told I dropped like a.stone.like a.switch had been thrown. I told them I just needed to get home to lay down and rest it off. My employee.said I was having a stroke. Drove me to the fire station and they flew me to the hospital. Yep a helicopter ride I don't remember!!! I was in surgery about an hour after having the stroke. When I woke up it was strange I couldn't remember anything that happened. Now, after all this they put me in outpatient therapy for 2 weeks doing fine I thought. Then I had a mini stroke a month later, and 2 weeks after that a pulmonary embolism. Luckily I have a wonderful girlfriend and she took care of me during those times. But now 10 months later... I feel like my skin isn't mine, not like it belongs to someone else just that it isn't mine. My right hand always wants to ball up in a fist... I'm left handed so that's a positive. My anxiety gets very high at the same time I'm depressed.... Bad combo. This doesn't happen at all times of the day, but for hours at a time. I can't remember much from just before or after the stroke, however, most long term memories are there I think. Short turn memory is quite sketchy. My right hand is.always.sweaty, and my flip flops the right one.wears unevenly from the left. Food tastes completely different. Canned tuna. Which I would eat weekly, tastes like I'm sticking my head in a bucket of day old chum!!! Chocolate tastes gross, ginger dressing , another thing I love on salads, doesn't taste right. Yes I eat healthy but usually only 1 meal.a.day now. But getting better with food intake. Bread smells like vinegar!!!! After the hospital I could only.eat half a.bowl of whatever and just wasn't hungry. Now I'm up to a full bowl at times. I do get confused alot but don't say anything about it and I forget alot. My girlfriend calls me every day when she gets off work. The other day when she called I told her i.saw.a dolphin in the back yard....I live on the gulf coast of florida. When she got here I told her I saw.a.dolphin today. She said i.already told her that... And this.was only 45 minutes from our call. Some things are getting better while other things are getting worse.

Even after having a seizure at home in front of my family, the hospital doubted us and sent me home telling me to “walk it off”. They weren’t even going to do a CT scan, but did after we asked. They actually called us back halfway home to tell me I had to get back. No idea how we weren’t compensated in any way, but what a load of BS that was

I hate seeing people struggle in rehab with old school metal gray walkers. I spent months in rehab, they drain your energy quickly, hence longer in rehab.. Rolator. It was a game changer for me. Got me home in weeks with outpatient rehab for months. Many of the staff said they were aware of it but have to use the old style equipment. Outpatient rehab was glad to see i had rolator. If you have a family member consider one for them, they are covered by insurance and medicare under DME. They have brakes and a seat when needed. Bonus i found was getting meal, used the seat as a mobile tray to get it to the table, no struggling with the old metal one to balance plate or glassware. Living alone it does give back a feeling of independence to do for yourself. Took me a year to be able to store it away, hope to never need it again, never know.

This comment is concerning because of the misinformation. A rollator is NOT appropriate for all patients and is NOT appropriate for all stages of therapy. They can be a fall hazard if given to the wrong patient based on the diagnosis and presentation of illness. Therapy isn't one size fits all, and the walker isn't "old school" just simply one of many types of devices therapists use in treatment. The device used in the video clip was appropriate based on the stage of therapy. All strokes are not the same, therefore the physical deficits will not be the same, and thus the course of therapy and device. Therapists view mobility on a continium, with the goal to transition a patient to the least restrictive device.

I had a friend suffer a stroke , a mini one, after he had gotten a massage, the masseuse really worked on his neck. My friend's secretary, after he went back to the office after the massage, said something was off with him and insisted she was taking him to the ER and yes he was told he had had a stroke. I was fast , ambulance was slow, diagnosis took days ! They confused it with my PTSD ! I don’t understand the healthcare system . Yes they save lives but at the same time they dismiss the patient and the patients concern . The patient cannot order a CAT scan or an MRI for themselves . The patient cannot order a chore biopsy for themselves neither bloodwork to rule out a heart attack cancer or a major deficiency . I cannot refer myself to an endocrinologist and so on . We need to better advocate for the patients! We’re good at high insurance rates and difficulty in making timely appointments . Time is everything and critical for good outcomes also we are great at mandating bad health protocols with no repercussions ! It’s time for change ! We talk a good game now it’s time to act !

I had no other symptoms. 12 hours later I tried to stand and I collapsed I was laying on the floor thinking I think I had a stroke. I went to the hospital it was a very mild stroke they didn’t know what caused it since I passed all the tests. I have a loop recorder to watch my heart because it might have been AFIB. All I know is I was under extreme stress at the time and my cousin’s husband also didn’t know he had a stroke until he went to a doctors appointment. Sometimes they can be very mild.
