“My name is Alison. I’m 47, I’m a mum, a daughter. But I’m also something else I never expected to be - I’m a stroke survivor.
“Stroke turned my life upside down, and it has also changed the lives of my family forever.
“Things began to get better for me when I got support from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, and I am so thankful for that. This special charity helped me realise I have a life worth living.
“It would have been so easy to ask, ‘why me?’, to be bitter and angry about what has happened to me. But I won’t let myself feel that way. I am determined to stay positive and to use my experience to help others.
“Knowing I can turn to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to support me on every step of my recovery journey made the world of difference to me.
“Having a stroke is devastating, but I have been able to take huge steps in my recovery over the last year because people like you support Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland to support people like me.
“Today there are thousands of people like me who are struggling to deal with what has happened to them, whether that’s because of stroke or another life-changing health condition.
