The reason why Stromae isn't aging is because he's a musical vampire, he's not rejuvenating through blood but through his permanent musical curiosity.

Did you notice that very gentle work with camera, lights and graphics on the wall behind him? This was live in news at 8pm on France's biggest network TF1, which is prime time. Big up to Stromae as well as to the people behind the camera (lighning operator, camera operator, sound engineers, ...). It seems easy but make it in this quality, it needs some perparations. And they had time for that and that's nice! :)

It's interesting to see how varied Stromae's music is. Lots of different influences. As you may know, Stromae is Belgian and one of his biggest influences is a fellow Belgian artist, Jacques Brel. He was active from to 50s to the late 70s ( unfortunately, he died relatively young of cancer). You might be interested in checking him out since people often call Stromae "modern Brel". Here's one of his most popular titles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5DFomijiNmlpa8

Note that the TV news show is real and it's the first time they've had a live music performance. This shows his influence in Belgium and France (this is a French TV news show) He had a hiatus due to some malaria medication he took during a visit to the Congo. He also got married and had a kid. So time off was necessary. His wife is the designer and partner in their production/design group, MOSAERT. Which is another anagram of MAESTRO from which he derives his name, STROMAE.

Hi from France ! Thanks for this video it's always nice to see non french speaking people react to it ! I just wanted to add something because there is a small mistranslation in the chorus he's actually saying "I've sometimes had suicidal thoughts and i'm not proud, we sometimes think it's the only way to silence them" so when he's saying "them", he's more refering to the suicidal thoughts than the people talking bad behind his back (at least that's how I'm understanding it) but maybe he meant both !
@its_casza33422 жыл бұрын
ahh okay i totally see what you mean!! it probably was a double entendre knowing Stromae!! thank you for letting me see that line in another perspective!! 1 of many reasons i love music so much!! so many different interpretations!!
@anne-francoiselathuy11602 жыл бұрын
Yes he means that somehow he think about suicid as a solution to get rid of his suicidal thoughts, wich is a suicidal thought of course. So he is describing a vicious circle wich he doesn't know how it began nor how to the end it, except with suicid. Vicious circle. His bigger performance in this is his directness, for me. He looks straight in your eyes, go straight to subject, but with a softness that brings you to hear what he has to say, it's not rude or aggressiv so he catches you with his eyes and the turning camera effect until he gots you to the core, like if you were alone with him and he was talking to you alone. That's a monstrous talent he has.

@libertedepensee64212 жыл бұрын
I think that when he said "the only way to silent them is to suicide" he is not talking about silencing people, I think he is talking about thoughts, he was just talking about thoughts in the verse just before and just come to say that the only way to stop the thoughts and the hell of overthink is to suicide because after dying you can't think or over think

I will be honest, man. I have listened to this track so many times over the past couple of years. And I still get choked up every time that i hear Stromae mentions that he has thought about suicide. I have struggled a lot over the past half decade or so. And I absolutely get what he is saying. Basically, everyone says you're not alone. Everyone says that we all struggle sometimes. But they are empty words. For me, I always think, if I am not alone, then where is everyone else? People will just say those words from afar but they themselves won't come close to you. It makes them feel better to say that. Like they are helping. But words are easy. Really, all someone needs is for someone to listen and care. But no one wants to be the one to do it. So they just say "you aren't alone" and move on. At least if we tell them they aren't alone, we have done our part, right? We can continue to leave them to drown alone, as long as we have said those words, right?
