Hey man loving your ''shiiiiiiits'' it's amazing to see somebody my age discovering classics from my childhood. The only regret I sometimes get is when translations sucks...puns and idiomatic expressions are sometimes hard top get without the help of a ''native'' speaker...like no one in France knew what a ''poker face'' was except for a litteral one...if you ever need someone to translate ''in deep'' (contextualising, explaining slang etc...) i would gladly be that guy, just hit me here it could be ''foooooormidable''.

Dead serious about the help i've got a pretty decent overstanding of the british language (Imo) but still have troubles sometimes with slang Even in classics i sang for 2 decades...on which you could help me ! And loving music and poetry from cab callaway or Boris Vian, to slayer and gojira, passing by immortal technique, cymarshall Law or Orel san...it may be some pleasant work to do

We call that a " hold-up ". A performance held in public where no one around knows the person I a performer. Here, Stromae wasn't drunk nor tired, he had worked on his acting for months before everything was filmed. The media ripped him to shreds the same day, humiliated him, dragged him through the dirt. . . before realizing way later it was all an act and they had been, indeed ,been the ones in the wrong.
@sebastiencalandrini9650
@sebastiencalandrini9650 3 жыл бұрын
It was an actor's performance: he was only pretending he was drunk, when he just wasn't. Even the cops couldn't see the difference as they didn't know they were being filmed. Now Dereck you absolutely need to listen to and watch his next hit single music video: TOUS LES MÊMES, on women being fed up with male chauvinism.
@diamdiwo

The video was shot a "busy" day, in a central point in Brussels, but all cameras were hidden and very faw. He cames from the subway and "acts" like if he was drunk. all the other people on the video were not actors but "real people". I remember we saw the "raw" video (not edited with the song, lyrics) a lot during few days, ad everybody was shocked : "Stromae was caught drunk", "he is sick", "he cannot assume being famous..." A lot of people also post others videos they took on their phone, it was the biggest subject to talk : Stromae's carreer is finished ! Then, few days later, the video is relaesed, and... WOW !!! Everybody felt stupid and we all had to recognize it was a genius way to promote this wonderfull song !

as far as I know, this was filmed on "hidden camera", so the cops and the people didn't know they were filmed and so their reaction is much more precious. This song is also a word game between FORMIDABLE and FORT MINABLE (SO LOUSY). And Dereck, I like your work. You are becomming a specialist in french music :-)

When he recorded this video it was only with hidden camera, people around are real people not comedians (real cops yes :-) ). Immediatly on the social medias there was a buzz, you could see: Stromae drunk in the street !!! Some people said: that's what happenned to stars: they drink too much... or Poor Stromae he seems really sad And a few days after the video was released and ONLY at this moment they explained what they did. He's not only a fantastic music maker and showman, he's also awesome in communication

I remember well that when he shot this video, it was first a bad buzz in Belgium. No one knew that it was for a video of his new song. So the news spread quickly in the country that he was not doing good and was drunk on the streets and annoying people in Brussels. Of course, he made it in purpose as it gave huge exposure to his new song "formidable" 😁.

This took 18 hours to film with hidden cameras all over the square. Cameras on parked bicycles for example. He was nervous even the morning if the shoot because Paul (Stromae) is a very humble guy and even though his first album was a massive hit and he made millions, he drive a very ordinary car and lived in the same house as before. He was seen one night by a fan eating in a really basic car and the so called fan took a video and uploaded it to social media making fun of him. He was pronounced a one hit wonder basically. So to do this was a huge gamble. After this filming the media went crazy insulting him. When he went on a tv show with the video to promote his 2nd album Racine Carrée he again appeared drunk on the show, even though he wasn't, it was just an act, and people were asking why he was allowed to go on tv like that. But then after he finished singing and the video was released they had to take it all back. I adore Stromae. Racine Carrée was perfection. Awaiting his new album now. Santé, his new single came out about two weeks ago. CD coming soon and a tour next summer. Love to see your reaction to the wonderful Stromae.

🙏🙏🙏🙏Thank you for sharing with us works of artists from the past. I adored Stromae, a young man of great intelligence and great humanity, very lucid, very creative. His texts are like modern philosophical tales. He had an international career, and generated enthusiasm, see worship. Hi Dereck! Can I just say you are by far a favorite reactor and I just love the versatility on your channel. Formidable is one of my all time top songs. beautiful melancholic and melodic. I can confirm Stromae is a genius. I was lucky to see him in concert in the Netherlands before he went under the radar. During the concert he literally took us on an improvising journey on the creation proces of making a song, adding more instrumentation, beats, words and melodic lines on the spot! It was magical. One of my other favorites is the song 'Cesaria' in which he pays tribute to Cesaria Evora, a famous Cape Verdean singer - Grammy winner, passed away in 2011/2012 I believe. Thanks Dereck ❣

Hi Dereck, I love your channel, and I absolutely admire Stromae, a little subjective, being a Belgian. I would recommend "Dodo" or "Sommeil", not his most famous songs, but so textualy good, right spot on, addressing difficult subjects like domestic violence and keeping up appearances. Also "Cancer" is deep song with a haunting clip. I would also recommend watching some live performances of him, like the one in Madison Square Garden in 2015. Greetings from Belgium

Stromae is sometimes compared to Jacques Brel, the most famous Belgian singer of the 1960s. With "L'ivrogne" for example or "Madeleine". Jacques Brel is considered an icon and one of the greatest singer-songwriters of French song, thanks to titles such as "Ne me quitte pas", " Amsterdam ", " La Valse à mille temps ", " Ces gens-là ", " Vesou ", "Mathilde". Brel offers a cruel universe, between drama and humor, with an interpretation of the characters he speaks of in his songs. I recommend watching his concert at the Olympia in 1964.

Hi Dereck ! Your channel is really nice! If you wanna try some other french artists you could try Tryo “l’hymne de nos campagnes “ or Louise Attaque “je t’emmène au vent “ these songs are great and lots of their songs are really good! Keep going guy ! You’re make an amazing job !! And if you want to react to older French songs I recommend you Serge Lama with “Je suis malade” yes like Lara Fabian but he is the original singer . Or Femme Femme Femme ; Une île or whatever else from him , he is just how to say it in English … marvellous!! By the way, keep going on your way and continue to love french songs! Good things to you !! Take care

Thanks for watching this video. Now a few months later, when we got our new king Philip 1st, there was a parody of this song with an actor playing the role of the future king…
