During college, Hugh took a job building houses in aboriginal communities in the outback of Australia. Still years away from acting school, not to mention Hollywood, the experience had a profound effect on him.

people would like to find out more about the Aboriginal culture but they're scared because of the violence that they see now in terms of accepting your culture we can't accept people having bottles smashed over people's faces we can't accept people putting their partners into hospital by smashing them over the head with River rocks the problem is that none of this is ever shown on television so nothing is ever done about it if you want to be treated like civilised people you have to show us that your worthy of that title now sure not all Aboriginal people's are wild but a lot still are so it's very difficult for modern people to accept this sort of behaviour especially when you're getting so much money from the government to fix it but the land councils just steal all the money and spend it on themselves

It's easy for him not knowing anything about the stolen generation.. Because it's never came to light till 1994 that when Australian people got a know about the stolen generation.. And we are never mentioned As if we never existed just like 1974 Aboriginal land right Act which was the first to give back control of their Ancestoral lhomeland. They only mention MOBO 1992 natives title 1993. But I will contest the natives title. bill. MOBO won He court case for the people of the Murry islands. Not for all the rest of Australia. That is the same time that first nation koori murri started to saying Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander. Which they saying that MOBO won for he owns Ancestoral lhomeland.. and was granted Native title for he Ancestoral Islands Home. Nothing about first nation koori murri in he Trail. Mobo fought the court and proven he connection to he island. Indigenous Aboriginal of the Northern Territory. South Australia and western Australia have taken the lands claim and frought it's through the court.. Yet New South Wales Victoria and Queensland and Tasmania first nation koori murri people haven't fought for land right. Native title. Which isn't fair for those who gone through the Australian court system.. and that first nation koori murri people think they just copied the lands right Act and amended the land right Act of the northern territory and removed that indigenous Aboriginal people living on Homeland Don't have the right to Vito mining company and the first nation koori murri people are signing mining contract as traditional owners. And that indigenous peoples of the S.A NT WA are they're financial benefits cash cow for the own benefit for their people and community.. @TotalWater-d2o Жыл бұрын
Firstly, it is taught in schools: Australian history (see Aboriginal history) is the single most boring high school subject in existence, the entirety of the subject could have been covered-off in two double-periods, but they strung it out for an entire semester. The universities have also recently started trying to inject Aboriginal sociology crap into courses watering-down the quality of Australian education ; the notion that the culture of illiterate, semi-nomadic, hunter-gatherer tribes has any place in an engineering degree is beyond laughable. Secondly, the media isnt 'silencing native Australians' it's simply not 'providing them with special treatment' and 'giving them more coverage than they deserve'.

Sydney had the largest population of Aboriginal people and every major city too. The taking photo thing is no longer an issue, it’s more related to traditional ways people spiritually punished people using personal items and images etc . Showing photos of the recent dead is mainly taboo in central and northern Australia. Homestay with an Aboriginal family would more likely occur via making friends and what area you want to go to. You sound like you are chasing the stereotype of in the bush etc. there are likely eco tours now in some regions run by Aboriginal owned companies. But homestay is like asking is there a way I can just lob up in England stay for free and take pictures of the family. Aboriginal people aren’t that different that this would happen just for free and via the internet. It’s an odd request and very creepy if you think about it. Paid tours etc are more likely.

I think its more the fact people get frustrated when those of mixed race identify as Aboriginal but ignore their other heritage, for instance you stated you are Aboriginal, you should have said I'm part Aboriginal or have Aboriginal heritage even people like Anthony Dillion or Jacinta Price do this. It becomes even worst when you get people identifying as Aboriginal because their grandparent or further back was indigenous and then act as they are oppressed or affected by things like Australia day etc when in reality unless they told you, you would have no idea of their heritage. I wish I could have met my grandparents an got to know them or even had a photo of them. I wish there was no sorrow for those of us touched by the stolen generation. As a white Australian myself I find it disgusting over 25 years after finishing school you know you’ve asked yourself that same question. Why didn’t I know this until I was an adult? I think a lot of us do. I’ve been friends with a few aboriginal people over the years and they were all so centred and kind and understanding and had loads of cultural stuff to share with me about my own country. Which I will always be grateful. It’s great to see now more aboriginal people on tv as news presenters etc cooking shows I love and actors. Still there should be way more.

Right on Jackman! Come back and help Indigenous communities flourish! We need as much assistance as possible.
@swiftas287710 жыл бұрын
Are you suggesting they dont receive enough assistance.Isnt $2 billion dollars over and above assistance given to non-aboriginals enough?
@swiftas287710 жыл бұрын
***** Google "Indigenous Home Ownership Program reaches $2 billion in lending". This assistance is not available to non-indigenous
@swiftas287710 жыл бұрын
***** What drugs are you on exactly? Its called the "Indigenous Home Ownership Program" and the title states Indigenous Home Ownership Program reaches $2 billion. To be eligible you must 1)be over 18 years of age 2)of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent 3)be able to meet minimum deposit requirements (the First Home Owners Grant may assist) 4)have the capacity to meet housing loan repayments. No mention of your claim its availible to ALL Australians that live under the poverty line Aboriginals can also access any of the assistance programs as you have stated. The Indigenous Home Ownership Program is exclusively for the aboriginals not non-indigenous and as I previously stated aboriginals receive over and above assistance given to non-aboriginals. Austudy-single $414.40 Abstudy-Single $510.50 As you can see my initial argument stands but nice try though
@swiftas287710 жыл бұрын
***** First you said the Indigenous Home Ownership Program is availible to ALL Australians living under the poverty line and I proved you wrong. Then you try and disprove my claim that aboriginals receive $2 billion worth of assistance over and above assistance given to non-indigenous by providing names of government assistance available to ALL Australians (yes including aboriginals).Now you pull some bogus figures out to try and disprove me again.You were looking at the Youth Allowance not Austudy lol.The figures I used are directly from the DHS website. Im spreading propaganda? Hardly, its called the truth,try it sometime
@swiftas287710 жыл бұрын
***** Nice try lol.Edit your post to try and retract your previous nonsense after I proved you wrong but you STILL failed even after editing your post hahaha. As I said,is there ANY assistance program only available to white Australians? Either state or federal government funded? I challenge you to find just one. Still cant find one? Thats because there isnt any. You should just crawl back under the rock you come out from under and disappear

There are three types of Aboriginal people in Canada: First Nation, Metis, and Inuit. The word Eskimo can be kind of derogatory as it literally means "eater of raw meat."
@zekesmith53005 жыл бұрын
hckyroxs we’re talking indigenous Australia not Indian
@hooleyqueen4 жыл бұрын
yes, it is derogatory, as the Inuit of Alaska did not refer to themselves as Eskimo. White Europeans came to the Americas and just started naming people. Columbus, who never stepped foot on the North American Continent, (we were not taught that in school) named the indigenous people "Indians" a word they would have never heard. They had no concept of a huge continent across a vast ocean. Of course I refer to the continent of Asia, and the sub-continent of India. This word would never have been spoken in the New World (the Americas) before the invasion of Europeans. Yes that is correct, they were not "explorers" they were invaders. I no longer use the word "Indian" instead, I say indigenous. In some South American countries the word Indian has been replaced with the word Indigeno.

Every human being needs to have a half hour yarn with an elder... it will change your life . 💖
@itchyvet5 жыл бұрын
Very nice to see the other side, but it's not all about sugar and spice with all things nice. If you spend a little more time with those same elders, you will see the dark side. For example, a few years back, there was an Order Of Australia given to a young aboriginal woman who passed her nursers exam and was the first to do so, thus the Order. When asked what her motivation was, she replied, "I want to help my people, they really need it". She stated she intended to go back to her tribe in N.Q. and begin helping her tribe with their illnesses. Not quiet 2 years later, she was in Brisbane working at the Brisbane hospital, having been OUTCAST from her tribe in N.Q. When questioned as to why, she stated she crossed swords with the Elders who flatly refused to allow her to give their people the medical aid they needed. She ignored their ultimatim and consequently was kicked out and left to fend for herself. Clearly, the Elders did not like the POWER she was gaining over their people and felt unempowered and no longer the authoritive group, so they kicked her out. That is one of the main issues with the indigenous people's in Australia. Their Elders are reluctant to accept help badly needed,because they fear a lessening of their own power over their people. They'd rather they get sick and die. There are many more such DARK episodes in our indigenous people's history, but political correctness won't allow them to be aired.
@dj_nyx89034 жыл бұрын
@@itchyvet what's wrong with that. People can choose to live a traditional life if they want. These elders grew up their entire life traditionally so they're judged for living peacefully. That's just ignorance. Culture and tradition are such a hard thing for white people to understand.

I totally resonate. I worked with a Canadian FN for 3 months while in Graduate School. A wondrous experience that was transformative. I worked for the govt on FN issues for a further 15 years. The perception of the problems outside the FN communities is far different from the reality. The complexity is almost universally misunderstood among non-First Nations communities.

316bluethunder How does it keep them poor? Some native communities have built modern towns, others have not. How does the first nations act keep them down when clearly others have built lives for themselves? Also you know as well as i do there is just as much corruption in the FN community as anywhere else in Canada.

Baseshocks can you count......when the treaties were signed 80 yrs ago,,,they were acted upon 40 yrs ago, meanwhile Canada has been plundered and pillaged from 350 yrs to this very day, where is the rest of our share as the treaties state. And the Indian act has regulations,,,why then do you not see NATIVE OWNED MINES IN CANADA,,,,,because of the INDIAN ACT ,,,get educated and know how NATIVES are treated in CANADA.....all you immigrants to CANADA never bought nothing with you...remember everything in CANADA comes from the NATIVE lands. no lumber,,no news paper no toilet paper....all these products come from the trees of Canada... and how many maple syrup owned factories do you know of ...FN IDIOT

***** So if you think colonization and oppression is saving people then I don't think I'm the one that is misinformed here. Which textbook did you read that from? (Not everything that was written is truth) Maybe try getting educated from the first people before you go around spreading your genecidal theory around. So many indigenous people suffer from the intergenerational trauma that still seeps into our oppressed lives. And don't even use 'it's ok, cause my grandfather's, father's, father was aboriginal" bullshit. What's important is the fact that during the times of 'dicovery' of lands...First Nations people did not need to be 'saved' by anyone...that we all had our own ways of life and faith...and now we sit here oppressed into the lives of addiction and shit hole reservations or 'outback'...and if you are aboriginal, I pray that you find your way back to the truth of your own people and stand up and create change for indigenous people around the world who dell victims to greed and religious wars!
@kimberlynight42559 жыл бұрын
***** I also do believe that you are naive in thinking that things just played out the way they did...for real...what textbook did you get this from? A big part of indigenous history is to do with Assimilation and what the kings and queens opinions were of us savages...thought they could shame us out of our brown bodies, cut our hair and call us by English names. Well it worked....our people are lost in addiction, suicide, crime, or aboriginal woman are statistically more likely to end up on the LONG list of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman here in Canada...so you can read as much as you want from your text books, or look into the new truths that are surfacing about what really happened with the Stolen Generation (Residential School Survivors). No need to name call, just become more aware of the real history...as if a whole nation would admit to genocide of another oppressed nation! See this is where the problem lays...denial. And it's ok, your just no there yet. I have made peace with my history and am finding ways to create a new life as a strong aboriginal woman from Canada. I intend to help others get to where I am in life...I also hold no grudge towards 'european' or 'settlers' for what their ancestors did. I choose to male partnerships and maintain being a role model for my people. Take it or leave it. But remember, love conquers all. The world has too much hate for me to become upset...rather look for understandings wherever I can.

I think it is unacceptable in our time to still disrespect Aborigines and other races. It is very important that famous people like Hugh Jackman talk about this problem. We talk a lot about politics, about finance and we don't talk much about ordinary people. we should think more and talk more about the problems that we have been unable to solve for several centuries. Therefore, many thanks to those celebrities who raise such problems on television and KZbin ! This should be a good example for others who can influence people's opinions.

Well for starters, life is hard in Australia and getting harder. Australia is in the red. We borrow money from overseas just to maintain our standard of living. There is no money to throw at anyone. Any further borrowing will put an unbearable burden on our young. Time to cut the gravy train. Aboriginals must like every other Australian of all ethnicities stand on their own two feet. Aboriginals should simply join the mainstream community and go where jobs the are. Everyone else is doing just that. Sink or swim. Personally, I prefer to swim.

This country Australia was occupied by people , we are Aboriginal people , there was many different tribes and lived free in our country . We had our own lores and beliefs until the white race took all that away . First they befriended us and then tried to slaughter us off, then ripped our land up , then took over our land . That wasn't enough then they enslaved us and ripped our families apart . They stopped us from speaking our language and culture beliefs . Now we deserve some respect and something back . I believe we shouldn't have to struggle anymore , we should all have our own houses given to us at least . We shouldn't pay taxes on our land , they should be paying us for being here in our land , we want something back not just sorry or get over it . When important people come to our country , what the first thing they , the government wants us to do is welcome to country and dance for them . We need to stand our ground once and for all .🖤💛❤️🖤💛❤️

So much for living in a "civilised society " there's nothing civilised in the way native peoples have been treated the world over. The fact that white society has conveniently left out how native populations were treated is completely unacceptably, No amount of apologies or compensation will ever make right the wrongs committed against native population. But at least acknowledge that wrongs were committed and include this as part of history issues taught in schools, least it ever happens again.

Hugh tends to see the good in people. I relate because I am the same way. I have befriended people who I completely disagree with on every political issue, yet somehow we were able to connect as human beings and develop a mutual respect or one another. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If anything, Hugh has probably inspired Murdoch in ways that improved him as a person or slightly changed his views.
