Hi Jeff, I have been following your instructional video. It's been very helpful. Have you found, or would you direct me to part 3?
@greasemonkeygaragewatson10697 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, just been through the videos found they are numbered wrong the end of part 2 shows the fitting of the float bowl or the bottom of the carb which was the end of that section of the build the next video I started the top half of the carb which I had wrongly titled part 4 when it should have been part 3 which brings the series to a end. sadly I filmed this series to the end of the job then did the edit which I was disappointed to find the mistakes I made zoomed to far in etc by then the carbs where finished. the problems with trying to both film and work. hope you get something from the series if there is something your not sure about I may be able to help. regards Jeff

Thanks Jeff, this clears it all up. Your videos were very helpful!! One quick question, what "Silicon Grease" do you use to seal the bottom plug?

Hi Robert any really its mostly the same ive used many different makes there are some lubes out there made for rubber o rings net search probably the best way just keep the pack size small keeps waste down. regards Jeff

What is the float bowl cover bolt tightening sequence? Your second video stops before tightening and your third video has it bolted already.

Again very informative video, Jeff. What kind of media do you have in the blaster, not sand i presume?
@greasemonkeygaragewatson10699 жыл бұрын
+Ulrik Kaul hi Ulrik yes its dried silica sand very common in my area fine grade but you need a good mask to use it fine dust but its cheap should look for some thing better. how is your project?. thanks jeff

+greasemonkeygarage watson I have a blaster cabinet like yours, it has been a nice investment. When the time comes and i'll be renovating my carbs, i might have a question or two, hope it's okay. My Strombergs don't have the little tags where you can identify them, but more on that later. The Spit6 project is slowly progressing. Chasis is blasted, primed and painted with a paint type also used on truck chasis. The body is blasted, primed and painted on the underside and inside. I'm half finished with the front. At the moment it's partly rust work and assembly the suspension. I have a bunch of pictures here: quickconnect.to/kaul/photo Just have a little patience. Cheers /Ulrik

I'm almost at this point in my rebuild, but I'm wondering ,how did you get the old jet out? Press from the bottom (like pressing in the new one) or tap out from the top (like seating the new one?)
@greasemonkeygaragewatson10697 жыл бұрын
Hi David may I say that the important thing here is to get the height right when you refit the new jet very important been a while since I did this video but I'm sure this detail is included I tapped it down if I remember with a tool I made basically a long bolt which I turned on the lathe witch fit down the centre to a shoulder so no damage to the carb body when drifting out. don't forget to measure the height of the old jet before you start depth gauge best for this job. 100thou is what it should be from the top best practice to check measure. regards Jeff

I see it at the very end of your last video and beginning of this one, you tapped it out from the bottom (with a hammer.) I had this video "saved" for a while and the bookmark was after that point when i picked it up, so I didn't remember the beginning. Thanks for the information.

Where is a good place to purchase the rebuild kit for these carbs? The only metal part in the kits available here in appear to be the seat for the needle.
@greasemonkeygaragewatson10698 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave not sure where your based. I purchased this full overhaul kit from stromburg here in the uk for aprox £100 expensive I no, but its the full kit and now the car is running and on the road they perform really well. you can contact them via the net. Regards Jeff

I rebuilt the carb with the kit available here in the US. It mostly contained gaskets and a new needle and seat. After putting it back on the car, it started leaking fuel from a hole on the filter side of the carb once it reached operating temperature. Any idea what would cause this? It did the same thing prior to the rebuild.

Dave's Drone Hi Dave its common for the float needle valves to stick when new try to work them up and down not easy to do but its the best place to start. it happened to me think it was the front carb but once lubed its been ok this can also happen when the car has been stored for a longer period of time. good luck and merry Christmas

Thank you, I will try that, Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you!
