It's all in the details. Looking forward to the string line and laser part.

I really like the marking of the centers on the wet cement and the board width. Really helps with lining things up I feel.

A question regarding the porch. It appears you are making very strong connections between the floating slab to the piers w/frost footings. Isn’t that going to be a problem if/when that slab heaves ?

Curious what keeps the tubes level and on-grade while you're pouring? Seems like a bump would throw them off. Is the backfill enough? Great explanation of this process btw, nice job 👍
@MrPostFrame Жыл бұрын
We use a larger sonotube than the hole. We rip down the side and collapse and screw back together. It stays in place pretty good after backfill. We usually pour the next day so they don't sit too long without the concrete.

How do you ensure each corresponding bracket on opposite side walls are sitting perfectly square to each other so that your truss will sit perfectly in your notched columns?

At 11:10 it looks like you have a mini batter board set up? What is that for?

That was batter board to run my string lines for the porch post locations.

I’m guessing these are to code in most counties? Do you have a video where they pour the concrete over the piers?
@MrPostFrame Жыл бұрын
Yes these are approved by the the building code. Pouring the slab? Yes you’ll find videos in this playlist - kzbin.info/aero/PL3QM32YjSVn2M5xXq61OnCYoo9eFg04T1&si=qMIhXTNjZ59qEqGf

What’s the reason for not using rebar cages in these piers? Seems to be common to not use them with post frames but then you see a light post in a parking lot get a rebar cage for its pier

Why do you pour the concrete slab up the Pirma columns on the main structure but not the porch? Why not take the same approach as you do with the Pirma columns for the porch?
@MrPostFrame6 ай бұрын
The porch posts will be exposed to the weather and I want the post on top of concrete so by spacing it up with a 2x4 my concrete slab goes under the bracket. Then I get a 1% slope away from the structure and the porch concrete sits about 2” lower than inside finished floor.

Why are some Barndos built with a full foundation instead of just piers ? Also, it would be interesting to hear a cost/benefit analysis using those PermaColumns.
@MrPostFrame Жыл бұрын
We build most of our foundations with piers. We do have a full series of a barndo we build on an ICF wall. We decided on an ICF foundation for that build for a couple reasons. There was an existing slab that was dug out and the ground was full of limestone which made it difficult to drill piers. It's also going to depend on city/county requirements.

do you have to put any foam inbetween the piers? I heard in michigan to meet code you have too do that.
@MrPostFrame Жыл бұрын
We run foam down 24” below finished floor between piers for frost protection.
