Shawn I'd like your thoughts on this. People always say they still slice but have a strong grip at least what they think. I've found a "cupped" lead wrist is what makes the grip strong. From my experimenting I would hold a club completely cupped out then just relax my wrist and the club face closed. But imo I just don't think the grip is strong if the wrist is flat or bowed at address no matter the knuckles you see. You can see every knuckle on your hand on the club and still scoop if your lead wrist is neutral or bowed. Last time out hit a 320 yard drive a 315 307. And hit a 250 yard 6 iron. The 6 I was 280 off wanted to hit a 6 200 hit it 30 yards from the pin. This was uphill so really was more with roll out. So your teaching definitely works for sure.

Hello Shawn and Family! I've been following your journey for a year now, and I have to say that my golf game has improved, especially my 8 iron (consistently hitting it 160 yards all day long) LOL! I still need to work on my Driver to achieve more consistency. Sav, Big Mu, and Dad are the Best!!!

Great vid! Whats your opinion on the golf trainer 'hackmotion'? Feels like so many trainers (and aids) want to have bowed wrists and shallow swings. 😱

it also imo removes a variable in the swing and leads to a more consistent dispersion. having to bow the wrist the same amount every time to account for the clubface just seems inefficient. I'd much rather set the face at address, and forget about it. I really appreciate the principled not just opinionated takes.

I have a very strong grip but when I took lessons, the instructor told me that my club face was too strong at the top of my back swing. He convinced me to use a more neutral grip and try to bow my wrist on the downswing...which is way uncomfortable and I couldn't do. So is the strong club face at the top of the swing expected with a strong grip? It's difficult to tell on your swing with the camera angle. I'm going back to a strong grip though! Thanks.

Shawn…my right ankle was injured for several weeks and I couldn’t swing a club or practice. After watching your videos and internalizing it in my mind, I entered a golf tournament and couldn’t believe the accuracy and distance I was getting without swinging harder. The hammer swing system and strong grip feels so natural to me. Thank you for making golf so simple!!

This makes complete sense but why are there so many (well known) instructors online who totally rip on having a strong grip???
@golflessons

Today’s winner, Davis Thompson, has a nice strong grip! Those instructors are stuck in a static world; they have no idea what happens when you put the human machine in a dynamic, self preserving, reflex action towards a target. This is what is holding back the sport!

Shawn - I was your student for many years when you were at Richmond Hills golf and country club. I adopted the strong grip since. It feel very powerful with the strong grip and the LM also shown increased in swing speed. However, this strong grip can lead to over hooking for me. Can you remind me what has to be done to avoid the hooking with this string grip?

I do like this theory but I can't get it to work for me. However strong I grip (even 45 degrees), if I hinge like with a hammer, I'm likely to slice any short iron into the forest. I think it's because the blade is wide open because my lead hand cups. If I hinge more to the "carrying a plate" like a waiter, I do hit good and straight draws though.
@golflessons
@golflessons 3 ай бұрын
The other element to the swing is the release part and if you are holding off the club to try and hit straight, you have the equivalent of a checked swing! See “how to square up the club shawn clement” and on our premium channel you would immediately want to see “trail hand release” and “important release update” videos
@boxcampus4153

@@golflessons Thank you! I do think you are right about that. I also have noted that I swing my 8i about 84 mph, my 5i at 90 mph buy my driver only at 95-99 mph. Would you assume that lack of speed with the driver also is about a checked swing, no proper release?

Both you and Sean Foley like to discuss how to swing with an emphasis on what the human anatomy can do. BUT, you seem to both have very conflicting thoughts on the wrist angle. Sean points out that almost all PGA players have a wrist angle of around 50 degrees (right wrist tilted back). His training tool, the ProSendr is designed to promote that specific angle. In this video you are suggesting that the wrist shouldn't be hinged, but rather to use a very strong grip instead? Are you suggesting this only for people with wrist issues, or is this your suggestion generally?
@michaellitwack5019
@michaellitwack5019 3 ай бұрын
@@jayboek2854 Look up Sean Foley and the ProSendr - it's a 50 degree 'bow' of the rear wrist. The logic is that the bowing of the wrist is what keeps the club face closed (rather than the super strong grip that Shawn is advocating for here)
@golflessons
@golflessons 3 ай бұрын
The fact that you would teach a weak or neutral grip and then turn around and say that your wrists are defective and put a pro sendr whatever piece of plastic junk is like saying to God he gave us a defective body and we need to manufacture all kinds of braces to fix it…INSANE AND SMELLS SNAKE OIL.

@@golflessons You're selling something too. Your clubface is all over the place through impact and you've probably played long enough to get that timing just right most of the time. Most players could use a little bow feeling to get the cup out. I do like a strong grip, but pretending yours is the only way is just as dogmatic and snake oil as Foley.
