Cheers Stuart😎👍. The first time I visited a Cobbler was three years ago in September 2017. I drove up from Lancashire in lovely weather but when I arrived to Arrochar and it was lashing it down and I couldn’t see a thing. Waited a couple of hours but the weather didn’t improve so I decided to head up there in the rain and mist. I made it to the junction with the Ben Ime path and decided to turn back as every flat surface had turned into a pond and there was nowhere to pitch my tent. The path itself was basically a stream. As I reached the junction to the first path you turn off to the Cobbler I decided to head up that way and found a flat rock exactly the same size as my tent. I couldn’t believe it so I pitched up there for the night in the rain. Morning came and conditions were the same, couldn’t see a thing. Made my way up to the summit and then back to the car having never seen the Cobbler at all. Determined to return I went back in the snow last November and pitched right in front of the Cobbler. Absolutely amazing 😎❤️👍
@stuartwilson16134 жыл бұрын
@@TheSoloSummiteer Hi Dave, Thank you for your interesting response to my comment. I certainly did admire your super shot of the tent pitched up with the impressive backdrop of a snowy Cobbler highlighted by a stunning night sky. That is the key up here, If you can just hit the right weather window it can be totally awesome, simply beautiful beyond words at times. With Autumn approaching fast so It will soon be time for gazing up at the wonders of the Milky Way. And as usual my fingers are crossed for a really good frosty cold & snowy winter, maybe some Northern light shows too. PS. Have you seen the recent pics of the latest land slide on the Rest and be Thankful (A83) by Arrocher, result of more rain from the weekend. Both the A83 and the old military road completely wiped out again. Enjoy your next adventure, I will look out for the video. ATB

Looked a very tough ascent did that, particularly carrying all that weight in such strong winds. Massive achievement was that to carry on in those conditions. Glad it all turned out well for you, as it must have been one of those really tough decisions whether to go on or go back.
@TheSoloSummiteer4 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right, Anthony. The last thing I want to do is to put others in danger having to come and rescue me if I get it wrong. I was prepared to turn back at any point, and continually assessing if it was safe to carry on. The ascent was tough and I don’t think it really shows it on the video as I needed both hands so couldn’t film it. Thanks for the comments, really appreciated 👍. ATB - Dave

The Solo Summiteer I know what you mean Dave. I recently walked the Cleveland Way but had to call it a day at mile 90 due to an injury. One of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, particularly as it was for charity and being watched by people on here. Experience helps you make the right decisions and your video provided a great example of the thought process of an experienced wild camper. Great stuff 👍
@TheSoloSummiteer4 жыл бұрын
You’re right, experience does help. I think you have to be really careful with injuries especially as you get older. If you just carry on you can sometimes make them permanent.
