An MMA fighter is not supposed to destroy the best kickboxers in the world. But the impossible accomplished by Alistair Overeem. His rise in kickboxing was the fastest and the most epic in the history of K-1 World Grand Prix tournament, which was the most prestigious combat sports event in the world. From historic defeats to historic victories, this is his story. Now that he's back fighting the best in kickboxing, how do you think he will do against Rico Verhoeven?

@@barrymantz6026 I'm a black belt in MCMAP (Marine Martial Arts Program). I was an instructor, I coached fighters when I got out, and I can't help but to see opportunities get wasted while watching fights. It's not a big deal brother... I'm just saying Alistair had extremely good awareness in his center of balance and body position. He was a good striker, and the power was something. He had ease in take downs and controlling his opponents. But he lacked counters, and his submissions were limited. I would have loved to see him master BJJ, since that's all that he really lacked. He was a wrestler and did kick boxing. Two excellent disciplines to have in MMA. The final skill (BJJ) wraps it all up to be the ideal fighter. I'm not dissing him, just stating my opinion.

This is a perfect example of will and intent. He made a choice and he stuck with it. The absolute focus. You can watch his gaze shift in the slow-mo to each point he's about to strike and then he just does it. No hesitation, no flinch when he takes a hit. The man is a tank. I'm not a "fan" of fighting sports, I have nothing against it either. I know nothing about it really. I'm a small-arms weapon instructor. But, damn, this guy. If he did shooting competitions, I almost guarantee he'd be great at it for the same reason he dominates this, will and focus.

No other fighter in history has simultaneously held titles in two prestigious MMA promotions (Strikeforce and DREAM) and the top world kickboxing promotion at the time (K-1 World GP) AND been an ADCC European Champion. Not to mention, remain a Top 10 heavyweight contender in UFC for as long as he did. Now he's made a successful return to kickboxing against his arch-rival, who is one of the GOAT HW kickboxing legends? Granted, Badr is way past his prime, but so is Reem! Always had trouble with technical strikers that weren't years past their prime. Or even sometimes some that were. Bonjasky could counterstrike and it turned their fight into a snooze fest in which Reem resorted to throws out of frustration because he was getting picked apart coming in. Alistair Overeem has a specific game plan in his Kickboxing fights that works. He walks forward most of the fight with a high, tight guard, putting pressure on, and tires out his more skilled Kickboxing opponents, and than lands hard shots to put them down. The latest Badr Hari fight was a perfect example. Also past fights like the Spong or Ben Edwards fights are perfect examples. Hari and Spong were outstriking Overeem the first 2 rounds, and than eventually began tiring as Overeem kept pressing forwarding, while blocking their punches with his high guard, and than picked his spots to get his power shots through the wanning defense of his tiring opponents. He also benefits very well from the padding boxing gloves for his high guard as he walks forward.
