No, They don't get a Zenkai boost if they actually die... They only get a Zenkai boost when brought to the brim of death and recover from it, the Saiyans evolve like that due to the extreme harsh environments they lived in. In my head canon, Goku's zenkai boosts are so crazy in the Namek saga because he was built up to be THE legendary super saiyan. It was almost as if Goku was part of a prophecy. I think about it as if Dragon Ball ended after the Namek saga, which was the original plan if I'm not mistaken

I think it's because according to recent statements, the process to awakening super sayain causes a "change" in the body. This is when the s-cell count hits a certain point. Goku during his five days of training didn't just increase his power level from 9000 to 90000, and kaioken max from times 2 to times 10. He also drastically increased the potential of his body and started awakening his cells with kaioken. The zenkai just brought out that potential. And the super sayain transformation was ready, krillin just needed to die to ignite it!

Secondly Goku got his “Zenkai” not because he survived a fight with frieza they only fought once, but because frieza would be in this case the “active threat” during his fight with vegeta. What makes it even more ridiculous is even in final form frieza was still only using 1% of his power so Goku’s zenkai would have to know a threats true power level and compensate for it.

The recovery of the Zenkai is probably also important. Goku healing in the tank allowed for all his cells to heal in a natural and slower way than the senzu means which are sort of a magic bean rather than science Fi orientated. It is possible that Goku getting wrecked in the Saiyan saga and the Ginyu saga also involved the use of kaio ken which strained every cell of his body. And when he was training under artificial gravity, that was affecting everything of Goku. Whereas Vegeta when he got wrecked it tended to be specific major injuries rather than across his entire body. Eg, Krillin shooting a hole in Vegeta. Dende using his healing magic may have skipped a large part of Vegeta's zenkai boost if Vegeta had healed naturally. I would argue that Vegeta being resurrected had no impact on Vegeta's power level, since magic didn't heal Vegeta, it restored it. I know that the distinction is loose, but its the difference between doing some weight training and letting your muscles heal, versus your muscles magically going back to the state they were before the training. So Goku's kaio ken and gravity related damage to his body reaps the biggest reward for zenkai, and the healing tank > Senzu beans > Dende Healing > Resurrection.

I always interpreted it as a Saiyan gains a boost to put them at an equal level or above whatever foe defeated them or is challenging them. If you look at Zenkai boosts this way instead of actual numbers, it makes a lot more sense, especially in the lens of the saiyans being a perfect warrior race.

全快 (Zenkai) isn’t technically a fan made term. In the Japanese they do refer to getting a boost in power after “Zenkai” (which means complete recovery of health). It is mentioned in the series, just not the words “Zenkai boost”. But it just means they’ve come back to full health.

The zenkai boost happens when they are close to death and they maintain their power level through multipying and then when they heal the area being healed adds to the power level thus boosting it. About that moment when Vegeta told Kuririn that hurting himself wouldn't count for the Zenkai while it worked for Gokuu and Cell... couldn't it be that he had simply been wrong? Maybe he never hurt himself on purpose to figure it out. I mean he even thought he has become a Super Saiyajin against Freeza even though he clearly wasn't and we later see that it is not just raising one's battle power but also alters the appearance. So it was pretty obvious that Vegeta didn't know everything about Saiyajins, only some "basics". Just my theory though.

He fired Ki blasts around the center of the spaceship, broke down because it was too powerful, ate a Senzu, healed and became stronger (it was hinted by the red and white flashing "representation" screen behing him, when he flexed his muscles). Also, the topic "Saiyajins get stronger when surviving an injury" came up again in the second battle against Zarbon, that took place around the same time. The explanation was a hint to what was happening to Gokuu and why he increased his strenght that much in just 6 days, even in higher gravity.

Yes, I know all what happened during those spaceship days Goku trained in. Like I said that wasn't a zenkai boost, he got hit by his own Ki balls and then could barely move, so what? He just didn't have much energy left to get back up and press the button to reduce the gravity back to normal/zero. It seems you don't know exactly what a zenkai boost is, that being said, it consists of one suffering a NEAR DEATH injury and then recovers from. Once after put back on your after after being at a near death situation, the zenkai triggers, and it only occurs during that moment and no other. Vegeta during the Zarbon fight only explained what was happening to him and how he got his power boost, it wasn't hinted towards Goku because of the reasons I gave above. Hope that clears it up.

He didn't turn down the Gravity Machine, he crawled back to his seat where the Senzu Bag was, ate one, flexed and even said himself in the Japanese Version "That was close!" as in "Wow, I almost killed myself!". Yes he did turn it down bud, rewatch the scene again, right before he fell down he pushed his arm and aimed to to hit one of the buttons on the Mahine's controllers, fortunately he did succesfully push the right button which set the gravity to the regular one, then AFTER THAT he crawled to where the senzu where lying at. And yes he did say that quote because he was implying he COULD have been done for, but he didn't. He made it out alive in one piece just out of gas but one again not near death seeing as he even had the least amount of force in him to actually make it to the senzu bag. If that anywhere near death (which it isn't even close to) he would have been unconscious like everyone else. And for your statement, if he didn't tap the button and turn it down, what or who else did? And how exactly do you think he was still alive and was able to barely move if he didn't do so? I think Zenkai boost mixed with the now discovered s cells, is what creates the legendary Super Saiyan transformation that Broly uses and of course Kale, this mix mutation causes the zenkai to be permanently active as long as they're in the legendary Super Saiyan form, that's why they keep getting stronger as long as they're in that transformation, it's just my theory on that.

I guess you could give this zenkai boost to the form, but it's still a crazy power boost in a small amount of time. I think the explanation for why the Zenkai boosts were so much more drastic were because of the opponents they faced. When fighting opponents with powers so high. The saiyans had to adjust accordingly. 90k goku going to 3 million is clearly the biggest jump stat wise. Perfect cell doesnt even compare. That's a 33x increase in power. I would say that semi perfect cell is not 33x weaker than SSJ2 Gohan.

@@JamelHoward3291 Yes but Goku also was able to compete with Jiren later aftering unlocking The two OUI's. Meaning he did get a Zenkai boost from at least one of those making his base stronger. Which made his second Omen Ultra instinct stronger which made his mastered ultra instinct stronger. That's why I stated that Goku's strength increased the most over that arc. But that the biggest zenkai was like I also stated goku going into frieza.

I think Goku's zenkais make sense. He goes from 8000 in base to 90,000 but he also trained in 100x Earth's gravity on the way to Namek, all while getting zenkai boosts along the way thanks to his senzu beans. So Goku was unintentionally exploiting every bit of his Saiyan biology and got so strong as a result. This also explains why he goes from a base power of 90,000 to 3,000,000 off of one zenkai, because his body is so much stronger it gains more zenkai power to compensate. And him being at 150,000,000 makes sense because by then he has awakened SSJ which is a 50x multiplyer.

You also do get Zenkai from training where you will actually really get hurt but before you get hurt because your body reacts and does not want to get hurt in that extreme situation so your body gets faster and stronger adapts in that moment and you actually dont get hurt you will be able to block a fast and powerful attack from someone stronger than you like your instructor punching you for real in order for you to somehow experience that real tournament kumite situation inside the dojo

Something I've always wondered is maybe gokus Zenkais were so large due to the strain that Kaio Ken places on the body. Maybe from continued usage of the technique the body gets used to a certain level of power and Zenkais are more effective because the body remembers being that powerful before. Similar to how it's easier to gain strength the second time around if you powerlift. Like how if you bulked and got to 405 deadlift but then cut and lost strength it's easier to get back to 405

I think the reason cell came back so strong was because of how BADLY he was damaged. Vegeta had a hole blown through his stomach, but cell was vaporized down to tiny particles. So, cell had to recover from more than any saiyan ever had to, meaning he'd get a bigger boost than any saiyan ever got. That's my theory, anyways

I can understand why the Zenkai Boosts are ridiculously overpowered but I believe it's because it's the first time our heroes abuse it since they've gained knowledge of it through Vegeta, the reason why I think Goku's power level was 180,000 after he rose from the healing chamber was because he was probably doing some sort of Image training (Mentally) He could see and feel Frieza fighting everyone he possibly at some point put himself in their place and Fought him numerous times in different scenarios to try and find a solution on how to beat him (That's my headcanon) lol

Mike, Kaio-Sama also said when Goku fought Frieza, he was using the Kaio-ken x10 That could explain how he got to 3 million. However, without the Kaio-ken, he would have only been 300k; When he uses kaio-kenx20, he jumps to 6 million

I might have this wrong but I thought that it was mentioned that the healing pods give a special boost to saiyans too. Again, I might be remembering it wrong but the liquid in the pods has a ton of saiyan dna which helps them heal and boost power.

I always viewed the spirit bomb struggle with Jiren that triggered Ultra Instinct Omen as a zenkai boost, and near the end of T.O.P. when he does it for the last time. If those points in the battle with Jiren could be considered zenkai boosts, they would dwarf every other boost in the series by a huge margin. Jiren was slapping around SSB Kaioken x20 like nothing, and ended up getting defeated by Goku less than half an hour later lol. That may be the transformation at work, but I do also wonder if a zenkai boost is what enabled the transformation to happen in the first place.

The Spirit Bomb's energy acted in place of Goku's exhausted body. Essentially it means its power became Goku's own power for his body, temporarily. That kind of explicit comment from Whis, tells you that it is not a Zenkai boost. Zenkai's have a definition. Getting some degree of power, whether temp or from Guru's hand isn't the definition of a Zenkai boost. The fucking shit is a Sayian trait. Not a 'ball of energy -given-by-another-person-like-vegeta' boost. tf Might as well have vegeta throw energy at goku, and goku do the damn same and call it a Zenkai boost am I right? Cause that is the literal shit that people seem to be crapping out. Nowadays, though, Zenkai's have little impact with statements from tori like 'They get stronger as they fight' which kind goes against the "Power from recovery" Which is what Zenkai naturally is. I don't think UI allows for some sweet and grand healing. So no, I don't think it contributed at all to his ability to become UI or there afterwards. Considering he fought for a good time against Kale and them afterwards. I'd say they would likely be a more reasonable culprit for his raise to power, then the tiny fight with Jiren. Whis gives the details. I think a lot of you guys keep forgetting that the words 'Breaking his limits' isn't just something thrown out there. Everyone knows about the whole 'Limit breaking deal' I'm sure that could easily clear up everything all on it's own. Besides, the Legendary Limit breaking status would be way better then Zenkai anyway in a short case. Obviously not in the long run since Zenkai is a permanent thing, unlike the temporarily limit breaks Goku has had.

Regarding Cell, I remember something about him absorbing part of Goku's body after self destructing and that being why he had Instant Transmission after. His was at least more than double as he couldn't hit Gohan SSJ2 or damage him before, yet after exploding, he was on par. That was at least a 3-5x boost, 10 maybe if we want to stretch it. That's a lowball still though as SSJ Gohan was still in the ballpark of cell's power, he just didn't want to fight him so even though he was close to his power, he didn't use it. Still, Goku's in the namek saga is still the biggest in terms of single boost.

I don't believe the Cell thing was a Zenkai boost. Remember Cell is an Android first and foremost. His technology goes all the way down to his cell level, hence the name Cell. My headcanon for explaining how he was able to get stronger after blowing up Goku and King Kai is this: Cell is made up of DNA and studies of Goku before he went to Namek and became a Super Saiyan. Evidence of this is Dr Gyro didn't know about Super Saiyan when they fought Goku. So that part of Goku's DNA wasn't in the computer system that Cell came from. This is why Cell also couldn't use Instant Transmission at first. But when Cell blew up Goku, his cells managed to absorb Goku's new present timeline DNA to update the old pre Namek Saga Goku DNA they had on record. This is why Cell after absorbing and Updating his Goku DNA was now aware of Instant Transmission and able to use it, and also able to tap into Super Saiyan, hence the Yellow aura Cell had when he came back. It makes sense. It wasn't a Zenkai boost. It was a update on his Goku DNA in his cell database.

What I believe is that Vegeta obtained a false zenkai when he let krillin hit him. Even though he got a boost, its not even close to what he would have gotten had he fought frieza when frieza went to his 3rd form. Goku on the other hand got wrecked because of the ginyu fight. Its also possible that there's a difference in how you heal. Vegeta healed from Dende's Magic, Goku healed from a tank, and later on cell regenerated with his own power so in a sense he healed his body in the most natural way.
