Great advice! A term I learned from a David Bennet Piano video is "interpolating" which is a fancy word for "stealing" or "lifting" musical ideas. A riff that inspired me and that I interpolated was from the 2:30 mark of Opeth's song "Heir Apparent". That song is masterpiece! But that riff was such a cool change-up and such a great riff.

Thank you! Everything is built from what came before… No matter how much originality is brought, there’s always some fragment of inspiration. I think Opeth is a generational talent, they have an unfair amount of incredible songs, and that riff you speak of… I hadn’t listened to it in a while. Forgot how good that song is.

Awesome tips man. I just started playing around with the Master Of Puppets riff backwards and came up with something cool. Thanks for these tips, and love your channel!
Never thought about doing this but makes sense. All the greats have copied something one way or another. As long as it sounds different, why not?

My thought process exactly!

I got plenty of heavy riffs i just not good at putting drums to them

What part do you struggle with? It took me quite a while to figure out, and I still learn new stuff almost everyday.

@devyriffs i guess basically making it flow i have some midi drums and they sound so robotic seems like everyones drums i hear on discord have so much more groove and movement

@ ahh yes, I did a basics video on it, but the way to get out of being robotic is making the velocitiy and time a little bit off. Real drummers are imperfect, dominant hand/leg will hit harder, and be faster at times. It’s just a matter of moving things ever so slightly when editing them. Your DAW may even have a “humanize” function, which will do that for you!
