Inverted power chords are amazing. Well aplied sounds so massive.
@na7h4n3417 күн бұрын
You can make 6 string guitar sound even more massive when you put a five string bass on the root notes in the lower octave. I know Periphery does that on their drop C songs occasionally, and I’m not as familiar with Sylosis but I think they do as well

Cool list! Here’s some of my favorite heavy E standard riffs- Slayer- Black Magic Mayhem- Buried by Time and Dust Celtic Frost- The Usurper Sepultura- Dead Embryonic Stem Cells I’ll also mention some E standard riffs from bands that don’t cleanly fall under the “metal” label but are still very heavy nonetheless Black Flag- Nothing Inside Nirvana- scoff Discharge- meanwhile ( honestly you could make a good argument that this one falls under the metal category)

Something I've always found pretty neat about the higher tunings is how with the right dissonance, E-standard can sound like drop A. I think the best example is the breakdown in Flying whales, being D standard but for the longest time I thought that part was played with 7 strings.
@martinjakab17 күн бұрын
Because you have bass underneath it I guess
@fender769510 күн бұрын
I Hope bands start using half step down and E standard again. Some of the heaviest riffs aren’t lower than Drop D. I used to be obsessed with low tunings but now that everything sounds like low sludge I love listening to the great crunch of E srandard and half step down. Honestly anything lower than A standard or drop G is just ridiculous. Only for an effect but not for an actual riff. Ask any kid what song sounds heavier and they don’t know anything about tuning, they’d say Most death metal is heavier and crunchier because of that crunch of not tuning too low. 8 string and 9 string sound cool but don’t have that punch of something in Drop B or higher. And even Drop B loses a lot of the crunch unless you EQ the hell out of it. Having been in exclusively in Drop Ab and Drop B I can firmly say. Eb and E standard ftw.
